Chilling letter sent to 1200 Sydney families
More than one thousand families in Sydney have been sent a chilling letter about a man who worked with children being charged with criminal offences. The man, who worked with children in Sydney's northern suburbs and the CBD, was charged by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in October last year in relation to alleged criminal activity that allegedly involved a 'very small number of children'. The AFP said the man remains in custody and poses no threat to children. His identity, place of work and alleged victims associated have been suppressed under strict non-publication orders. Under strict conditions of the Royal Commission and in accordance with the Joint Child Protection Response Program, NSW Police and the AFP, in partnership with NSW Health, NSW Department of Communities and Justice, NSW Department of Education and Training, the Office of the Children's Guardian, have begun to notify families. Letters have been distributed to 1200 families and carers who may have come into contact with the man, even if they were not one of the alleged victims. 'Based on information currently available, investigators believe the alleged behaviour of the man involves a very small number of children, however, the parents and carers of any child who may have had contact with the man has received a letter,' an AFP statement read. The letter contains important information about the investigation and provides information regarding health and support services available to those who need it. 'The letter provides instructions on how to contact a local hotline if parents or carers have concerns about their child,' the statement read. Those who receive the letters are asked to read the information carefully and thoroughly. If further assistance is required, the families and carers can contact the local hotlines as per the instructions.

Teacher accused of having sex with boy, 14, hit with 52 more charges
An Illinois high school teacher who was busted in March for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student now faces dozens of additional charges. Christina Formella, 30, who was arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of a male student in what was initially believed to be an isolated incident, now faces more than 50 additional charges after investigators allege they found 'hundreds if not thousands of text messages' between the teacher and the boy, the Chicago Tribune reported. The former Downers Grove South High School teacher now faces 55 charges – 52 new charges in addition to the original three – including multiple counts of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child and grooming. Michael Formella – the accused's husband of one year who was in the car with her when she was first arrested – held his wife's hand as they arrived in Illinois court on Tuesday, photos obtained by the New York Post show. She was arraigned on 20 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, plus multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child and six counts of grooming. Prosecutors urged the judge to revoke Formella's bail and lock her up. 'She knew what she was doing was wrong,' prosecutor Jaclyn McAndrew said, according to the Tribune, adding that she 'is unbelievably conniving and unbelievably controlling.' There was also evidence the ex-special education teacher told the boy she did not intend to marry her husband, that her husband was having an affair with her best friend and was going to leave her, and that she would then have millions of dollars, according to the Daily Herald. But while the judge called the case 'horrifying in nature,' 'shocking' and 'appalling,' she allowed her to walk free with an ankle monitor. Formella is accused of grooming the boy before engaging in about 50 'sexual acts' with him between January 2023 and September 2024 in classrooms and at her home during school hours, the prosecutor's office said. Texas teacher slept with student who she saw as 'little brother': Cops Married Ohio teacher jailed for sex with 17-year-old student Former teacher of the year gets 30 years for sexually assaulting students The sexual relationship ended when the boy said it was wrong, the State's Attorney's Office said. The FBI Just Charged 7 Men in the "Largest Jewelry Heist" in U.S. History
The FBI has shared new details about what the agency is describing as the 'largest jewelry heist in U.S. history.' More than $100 million in gold, emeralds, rubies, diamonds, and luxury watches were stolen three years ago from a Brinks truck in California, and now seven Southern California men have been charged in connection with the crime. According to the indictment, returned June 11, the defendants scouted a Brinks semi truck from an international jewelry show in San Mateo, Calif., approximately 30 miles south of San Francisco, in July 2022. The truck was carrying 73 bags that contained millions of dollars of jewelry. Between the evening of July 10 to the morning of July 11, the defendants allegedly tracked the Brinks truck approximately 300 miles from the show in San Mateo to rest stops in Buttonwillow and Lebec, 79 miles north of Los Angeles. The Flying J Travel Center (seen in the photo above), just west of Interstate 5 in Lebec was the site of the heist. While the truck was stopped in Lebec, the defendants are said to have stolen 24 bags from the Brinks truck containing approximately $100 million of jewelry. Prosecutors then chart out a literal highway robbery spree that happened in the preceding months. In March 2022, four of the defendants were alleged to have stolen $240,573 worth of Samsung electronics from an interstate cargo shipment in Ontario, Calif., approximately 37 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Those same defendants, plus one more, allegedly then robbed a box truck driver at knifepoint of $57,377 worth of Apple AirTags. Then in May, the defendants allegedly attempted to break into a truck at a Fontana rest stop, a little farther east of Ontario, with a crowbar. They later stole approximately $14,081 worth of Samsung electronics from another interstate shipment in Fontana. All seven men, ranging in age from 31 to 60 and listed as residents of cities in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, are federal charges of conspiracy to commit theft from interstate and foreign shipment and theft from interstate and foreign shipment. If convicted, all of the defendants would face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for the theft conspiracy charge and 10 years in federal prison for each theft charge. The five involved in the March robberies would face statutory maximum sentences of 20 years in federal prison for each robbery charge. The FBI said in Tuesday's statement that 'some of that jewelry was recovered during the execution of search warrants on June 16,' but the agency didn't specify what was recovered or how much. Before the July 2022 Brinks truck heist, one of the largest jewelry heists in U.S. history, if not the largest, was in 1964 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Thieves stole the Star of India sapphire—valued at about $400,000 at the time (closer to $3.9 million today)—before being caught two days later.
