Update: Date: 23 min ago Title: How Wednesday's delay could impact the trial timeline Content: The trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs was adjourned for the day Wednesday after one of the jurors called in sick — a move that potentially throws a major wrench in the scheduling of the trial. Judge Arun Subramanian said he believes the juror's absence was a one-day issue but, regardless, it does throw off the court's tight schedule. Subramanian has said since the start of the trial that he wants this to be done by July 4. Prosecutors were expected to rest their case today, but with Wednesday's delay, they likely won't rest until sometime on Monday. Remember: Court was closed Thursday for the Juneteenth holiday, and today is a pre-scheduled half-day, with court running from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. ET. The defense has said they expect to use between two and five trial days to make their case, and closing arguments will take additional time. All of those steps need to happen before the jury begins deliberating — which makes for a tight schedule if we're aiming for a verdict before July 4.

Brad Lander returning to observe immigration court after ICE arrest
New York City Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander is expected to return to observe federal immigration court Friday, just days after his dramatic arrest. Lander's schedule says he will be back at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan, where he was arrested earlier this week, to observe the court proceedings. Olga Fedorova / AP Lander has been observing immigration court on separate occasions for several weeks, before things boiled over Tuesday. He and his wife said they were escorting a man named Edgardo from the courtroom after his case was dismissed, which they said then left him with no status in the U.S., meaning he could be subject to U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement detention and deportation. Video showed masked agents try to take Edgardo into custody, as Lander asked to see their judicial warrant. Lander was then pinned against a wall and placed into handcuffs. The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that he was arrested for "assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer," but he was released hours later and the charges were dropped. "The rule of law is not fine" "I will be fine, but Edgardo is not going to be fine, and the rule of law is not fine, and our constitutional democracy is not fine," Lander said to a crowd of supporters after he was released. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul went to immigration court to call for his release, as did several of his fellow mayoral candidates, including former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. "This is a sorry day for New York and our country," said Hochul. "The video is shocking. I knew I needed to come down here immediately [to] check on [his] whereabouts and do what I could to intervene." The next day, two members of New York's congressional delegation paid a visit to 26 Federal Plaza and were able to observe immigration court but said they were denied access to an ICE field office in the building. CBS News New York reached out to DHS for more information about why Lander was arrested and why the congressmen were turned away, but we have not heard back. The comptroller is among 11 Democratic candidates running in a crowded primary election. Early voting wraps up this weekend, ahead of Election Day on Tuesday.

'Devious and perverted' Bradford Imam raped boy at mosque
An Imam at the UK's largest mosque has been jailed for 13 years for raping a teenage Khan, 57, used his position at Bradford Grand Mosque to groom and assault the boy on five separate occasions during the 1990s. Bradford Crown Court heard Khan, from Sheffiled, had previously been jailed for 16 years in 2011 for sexually assaulting two boys in Stoke-on-Trent in Christopher Smith said: "You were a respected member of the teaching staff, but your outward respectful appearance masked a devious and perverted sexual interest in pubescent boys." The court heard Khan had attacked the boy, who was aged between 13 and 16, in his office at the mosque and on a Smith said he had then "secured his silence" by telling him "he would not be believed" if he reported what had happened."Regrettably, opportunities were missed to bring your offending to an end when other individual members of staff found you in suspicious circumstances but failed to to report matters to others as they should have done so," he said Khan had gained the trust of his victim's family while "silently betraying their trust" and "destroying their son's life". Khan's offending only came to light in 2019, more than 20 years after the abuse took pleaded guilty to raping the boy on the first day of his well as the 13-year sentence, Khan was told he would serve an additional three years on licence following his release.
