Hong Kong constable's condition improving after fall from bridge: police chief
The condition of a Hong Kong police officer who fell 10 metres (32.8 feet) off a bridge to escape a crash is improving after he underwent an operation, the force's commissioner has said, adding that the man remains in an intensive care unit. Commissioner of Police Joe Chow Yat-ming on Saturday also expressed his gratitude towards Tuen Mun Hospital staff who operated on the constable for their dedication. '[His] situation is becoming stable; we'll closely monitor the situation,' Chow said. A Hospital Authority spokeswoman said the injured officer was still in critical condition as of 9.30am on Saturday. Asked about hate speech directed at police after the incident, Chow said he had not read the comments online, but hoped that people could look at the matter 'in a humane way'. On Friday, 10 people were injured when a double-decker bus crashed into a police vehicle. The injured included the officer, who fell 10 metres from the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor when the impact happened. His condition was listed as critical in the immediate aftermath of the accident.

Constable shoots three people, killing one, before turning gun on himself
A police constable allegedly shot his colleague and two other people — killing one of them — before turning the gun on himself in the Machunwini area of the Harry Gwala district in the early hours of Saturday. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Col Robert Netshiunda said three police members from the tactical response team deployed in the Eastern Cape were driving home to the Free State when they allegedly missed a detour sign at the road works and their vehicle collided with barricades. Two community members responded and helped by contacting ambulance services and a tow truck. Netshiunda said the constable got out of the vehicle and shot the tow truck driver. 'When his colleague intervened, the constable reportedly shot him and another community member. The constable then reportedly turned the gun on himself.' The constable and the tow truck driver were declared dead at the scene, while the sergeant and the other man were rushed to hospital. The third police officer survived the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown. Police are investigating cases of murder, attempted murder, inquest and reckless and negligent driving. TimesLIVE
