New SPIDER-MAN '94 Comic Picks Up Where the Animated Series Left Off — GeekTyrant
Nearly three decades after Spider-Man: The Animated Series ended on a multiverse-sized cliffhanger, fans are finally getting the continuation they've waited for, just not on TV. Instead, Marvel is reviving that beloved version of Peter Parker in Spider-Man '94 , a brand-new four-issue comic that picks up right where the animated series left off. IGN broke the news that Spider-Man '94 will act as a direct sequel to the classic 1994 Fox Kids cartoon, bringing back the world, tone, and storyline that ended with Spider-Man swinging into the unknown in search of the real Mary Jane Watson. Well, according to this comic, he found her. Here's Marvel's official tease: 'After searching to the ends of the Multiverse, PETER PARKER – the AMAZING, the SPECTACULAR, the RADIOACTIVE Web-Head himself – A.K.A. SPIDER-MAN, swings back into the streets of New York City with his beloved Mary Jane WATSON in tow! But what's this? One of these villains is not like the others: Witness this universe's debut of not one, but TWO of Spider-Man's greatest villains from the comics!' Peter and MJ are finally back in New York. But peace and quiet? Not a chance. As the press release hints, two iconic Spidey villains (who never appeared in the original cartoon) are about to make their animated-universe debut in comic form. J.M. DeMatteis, who's no stranger to Spider-Man lore ( Kraven's Last Hunt ), is writing the series with art by Jim Towe. And for fans of the show, DeMatteis says this isn't just a nostalgia cash-in, it's a legitimate continuation: 'We're treating this as the next season of the show.' Marvel clearly knows who this is for. The rest of their pitch basically invites you to pull out your old action figures and sit cross-legged in front of a CRT: 'Legendary Spider-Scribe J.M. DeMATTEIS and rising star artist JIM TOWE bring you the return you've all been waiting thirty years for! And you're never going to expect the twists and turns ahead for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Break out your action figures, and post up in front of the TV as we bring you back to the greatest era of animated super hero television in history!' Spider-Man '94 #1 swings into shops on September 3. If you've been holding your breath since that finale aired in 1998…you can exhale now.

Umbrella Academy: Plan B # 1— The Sparrow Academy
It is a rare occasion when we witness a superb adaptation finish a line before the story is fully drawn, and I am thrilled to know that things in comic form will be as weird and different as a set of timelines set off by Number 1. Six years later, we pick up where we left off. After the mass release of The City's greatest foes and the chaos that was to be known as Hotel Oblivion, Umbrella learns that other brothers and sisters exist : The Sparrow Academy. Mom is alive and well, and the Sparrows are dubbed by her as the best ones. They tell their siblings (as only siblings can do) the Umbrellas were the failures. No one knows how to hurt each other more than family, and this will be an all-out battle for the upper hand, a bloody one. This adaptation invites you to reread the cult classic and remember how things ended up, because we will tend to mix it up with the TV series (and things are very different). I have to say that in 2019, I was wondering about how they were going to film Hotel Oblivion, and the wedding party at the end of the world surpassed my expectations. It is one of my favorite screen scenes of all time, as it reminds me of my very weird and wonderful family (we are six siblings). Having said that, this will be blood and mayhem all around, and I can′t wait! ′Umbrella Academy: Plan B # 1′ is on sale since June 11th, 2025. New Digital Comics Store Takes Aim at Amazon
For decades, comic book fans have had only one option for getting digital editions of Spider-Man, Batman, the Transformers or many other colorful characters on the same day they hit comic book shops. That platform, Comixology, was acquired by Amazon in 2014 and eventually absorbed into its Kindle service. The takeover left some fans grumbling that comics shouldn't get the same treatment as eBooks. Now, two industry veterans, David Steinberger and Chip Mosher, are betting they can beat Amazon at e-commerce by catering more intentionally to die-hard comic book fans. Next month, they plan to launch Neon Ichiban, a site they intend to be 'a dedicated experience for comics,' Mr. Steinberger said, after raising more than $7 million from investors in the game and movie industries. 'Understanding how comic book fans and people who should be fans want to shop and think about and browse doesn't exist anymore,' he said. 'The Comixology app, where you can have all your comics in one place, does not exist anymore. It's all just part of Kindle.' It is a head-turning statement from Mr. Steinberger, who also founded Comixology — and approved its sale to Amazon. Mr. Mosher was the head of content at Comixology. 'At the time, it seemed like the right decision,' Mr. Steinberger said. 'Our mission was to make everyone on the planet a comic fan, and Amazon clearly had the resources and the population connected to Kindle that we thought would carry that mission.' Review – Zatanna #5: Dance of Death
Zatanna #5 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: This series has been one of the best Zatanna comics in a long time, and has added a lot of new elements to Zatanna's roster for the future. But to resolve this conflict, Zatanna's going to have to go back to the past. In a flashback segment, we get a much darker version of Zatanna's early years than we're used to – her mother died in childbirth, and her father resented her for the death of his wife. He put the responsibility on her to be a great magician to make up for her mother's loss. When Zatanna didn't show immediate aptitude, he rejected her and began taking on new apprentices instead. Desperate for his approval, she attempted to cast a spell – and accidentally unleashed a dark sorceress who cast a twisted curse on them and spirited Zatara away to another realm. That set off the adventure where she was first introduced to the League – and made the mistake that doomed Zatara for good. Twisted tango. Via DC Comics. As Zatanna goes on a journey to reach the main villain, we're treated to some stunning visual feats. Jamal Campbell both writing and drawing this issue really makes the story work, because he can do things with the format that really push boundaries. There's a point where the page itself starts altering and devolving that's really fascinating. And there's also a deeply emotional scene where Zatanna finally gets some closure with her mother who she never really got to know. As for the villains, this issue concludes with a great segment as Zatanna gets to turn things around on one main antagonist – and another turns the tables in a way that upends the field of play and sets up a very tense conclusion. Zatanna's one of those characters who only rarely gets a full solo spotlight, so this could be one of those stories that becomes a true evergreen institution for the hero.
