Hundreds line up for "Survivor" casting call at Cache Creek, hopeful to earn a spot on the CBS hit show

BROOKS — CBS Sacramento and Cache Creek Casino Resort teamed up to host a casting call for the hit CBS show "Survivor" on Monday, June 2, at the casino. More than 300 people lined up, some as early as 1 a.m. Monday, before the doors opened at 9 a.m. Those braving the long line were hopeful of catching the attention of the reality competition show's producers and being cast. "We got here at 3:40 in the morning, hence my friends and I are numbers 3, 4 and 5," said Eddie Lopez, who came in to audition from San Francisco. "I've tried out more than once, I've sent videos in, went to several tryouts. For me, it wouldn't be for the million dollars, it would be to be on Survivor." For some of the first in line, first impressions make a difference. All contestants were tasked with taping a video audition live that would be viewed by CBS producers. If they are interested in choosing someone from this casting call, the show will contact the contestant. "Survivor is my dream. It would mean everything, the world to me. I don't care about the money, I just want to play," said Caitlin Gariealdi of El Cerrito. Everyone in line had a different reason for wanting to shoot their shot at making the show. "It would feel like a fun adventure," said Vincent Traverso of Napa. "I've been watching since the first season. I remember it had a dramatic impact on me at that time in 2000." Bridgit Moore of Modesto says she also has been a fan of "Survivor" since its start. "Ever since I've watched the show, I've thought, 'I could do that challenge,' " said Moore. "Being a part of the show would be a dream come true." Each contestant had one shot to stand out in their video audition. For Mary Hill of Spring, Texas, she showed up in an outfit with "Survivor" host Jeff Probst's face on it and prepared a song she wrote for her audition. "Oh my god, if I make it, I'm going kiss the ground in Fiji. And I promise you I will do the best," said Hill. This year marks Hill's 20th year trying out for "Survivor." She's travelled to auditions all across the country and made lifelong friends along the way with other show cast hopefuls. "I have been trying, people are like, 'Why don't you quit? They haven't picked you.' I said, 'This is what I want to do for myself. I don't want the million dollars. I would play it for free,' " said Hill, a lifelong nurse. Mike Baker of Folsom showed up to the audition with his own brain surgery survivor in tow as inspiration: his daughter, who has cerebral palsy. Baker says he has something to prove to her. "Show her the ways, show her how you can accomplish anything," said Baker. "She is the light of our lives, she can do anything." Hundreds are now hoping they will be the lucky one to get the call of a lifetime following Monday's audition. West Sacramento's own Joe Hunter, a local fire captain, was a finalist on the last season of "Survivor." Hunter will be returning for the show's 50th season.

The new ‘Hunger Games' movie is holding an open casting call—and TikTok's wacky auditions do not disappoint

If you've ever fancied your chances in the Hunger Games, now you have the opportunity to volunteer as tribute. Lionsgate just announced an open audition call for a minor role in the upcoming prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. 'To audition, show us your best: act out a scene, perform a song, or surprise us with something completely new,' the movie's X account shared last week. 'All talents welcome. No previous experience necessary.' Many fans and budding actors are now eagerly taking their shot at being a part of the beloved movie franchise. After all, Rachel Zegler, who starred as Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, landed her breakout role through an open casting call. However, if the producers were hoping the internet would take the auditions seriously, they clearly haven't spent enough time on TikTok. A cursory scroll through the hashtag #SOTRCastingContest sees everything from creators pretending to be a tribute running from the cornucopia in the games, to getting into character as a cleaner in the Hunger Games arena. One TikTok creator performed a dramatic retelling of Hunger Games main character Katniss' monologue from Mockingjay Part One, but in the voice of White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge. (Perfection.) Another TikToker proved she had the acting chops for the role of 'the potato that Beetee works on,' while a third auditioned for the role of 'one of the goose eggs katniss bring haymitch in the end of SOTR.' Yet another TikToker offered their interpretation of the supporting role of 'President Snow's milk'—'Can't wait to see you in the movie,' one person commented. 'They're gonna regret that open casting call,' another added. Serious or not, there is still time to get your audition in before entries close on June 6, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The chosen actor will join Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as Coriolanus Snow, Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, and Maya Hawke as Wiress in the Haymitch-focused prequel set to hit screens November 20, 2026. Entrants must be a U.S. resident and over the age of 18. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Paid extras sought for "Prison Break" reboot pilot filming in West Virginia

A Pittsburgh casting company is looking for paid extras to be in the pilot episode of a "Prison Break" reboot. The reboot from 20th Television for Hulu stars Emily Browning of "One More Shot," Lukas Gage of "Euphoria" and Drake Rodger of "The Winchesters." It will be directed by Elgin James, whose work includes "The Outlaws" and "Mayans M.C." Mosser Casting needs extras to portray prisoners, guards, body builders, townspeople, line dancers and more when the pilot films in the area of Moundsville, West Virginia, in June. All ages are needed, but especially men 18 years or older. No experience is necessary. Details about the reboot are limited, but Variety reports it's not expected to feature the characters at the center of the original show. It will exist in the same universe, but focus on a new crew of inmates. Starring Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, the original "Prison Break" was on the air for five seasons. "When his brother is wrongly convicted of murder, a structural engineer resolves to bust his sibling out of the notorious Fox River State Penitentiary," the description on Netflix reads. Filming will take place between June 6 through June 30 in the areas of Moundsville and West Virginia, about an hour from Pittsburgh. There's no filming on Saturdays and Sundays. The pay is $210 for a 12-hour guarantee, and extras are told to expect 12- to 14-hour days. Extras also must have transportation to and from the set. Those interested can find more information about how to apply online.
