Trump declares 'MAGA hates Fox News' after bad border poll...but he still likes the anchors

President Donald Trump went on a tear Thursday morning after a new Fox News Channel poll showed Americans split on the Republican's immigration policy. 'The Crooked FoxNews Polls got the Election WRONG, I won by much more than they said I would, and have been biased against me for years. They are always wrong and negative,' Trump posted to Truth Social. 'It's why MAGA HATES FoxNews, even though their anchors are GREAT,' Trump fumed. 'This has gone on for years, but they never change the incompetent polling company that does their work.' He then pointed to the latest survey. The poll, which was released Wednesday, showed Trump with a 46 percent approval rating overall, with another 54 percent disapproving of the job he's done so far. His numbers on 'border security' were better - with 53 percent approving and 46 percent disapproving. When voters were asked about 'immigration' his numbers were lower again. Forty-six percent said they approved and 53 percent said they disapproved. His lowest numbers were actually on the topic of 'inflation,' with 64 percent disapproving of Trump's handling of this top economic issue, and just 34 percent approving. Still, he took offense at how he was being rated on the border. 'Now a FoxNews poll comes out this morning giving me a little more than 50% at the Border, and yet the Border is miraculously perfect, NOBODY WAS ABLE TO COME IN LAST MONTH,' he wrote. '60,000 people came in with Sleepy Joe in the same month last year.' 'I hate FAKE pollsters, one of the Worst, but Fox will never change their discredited pollster!' the president complained. The outburst came Thursday morning as the world continued to wait and see whether the United States would join Israel in its current bombing campaign against Iran. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday night that Trump had signed off on an attack plan for Iran but the president had yet to issue a final order. Overnight Thursday the U.S. did not get involved in the week-long war between Israel and Iran. 'The Wall Street Journal has No Idea what my thoughts are concerning Iran!' also wrote on Truth Social Thursday morning. The president also slammed Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell - who he appointed - after the Fed decided Wednesday not to push interest rates down as Trump has demanded. '"Too Late" Jerome Powell is costing our Country Hundreds of Billions of Dollars. He is truly one of the dumbest, and most destructive, people in Government, and the Fed Board is complicit,' Trump wrote. 'Europe has had 10 cuts, we have had none,' he continued. 'We should be 2.5 Points lower, and save $BILLIONS on all of Biden's Short Term Debt.' 'We have LOW inflation! TOO LATE's an American Disgrace!' Trump wrote.

Turkey has increased border security amid Iran-Israel conflict, sees no migrant flow

ANKARA, June 19 (Reuters) - Turkey has increased the security of its border with Iran as the Israel-Iran conflict continues, a Turkish Defence Ministry source said on Thursday, adding Ankara had not seen any irregular migration flow from Iran. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Turkey was continuing to develop a layered and integrated air and missile defence system, using domestically produced radar and weapon systems, adding that the aim was to keep its potential combat readiness at a high level. The source also said Turkey's Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) aircraft had taken off after Israel launched its attacks on Turkey's southeastern neighbour Iran, adding that the aircraft continued to patrol borders amid the possibility of Israeli airspace violations.

New poll shows Trump's approval is high on this major policy issue

Many Americans are unhappy with President Donald Trump. But he continues to be popular when it comes to a core issue that dates to his first campaign 10 years ago, according to a new NBC News Decision Desk Poll run by SurveyMonkey. That issue that continues to be Trump's strength is immigration and border security, the NBC poll showed. Of those surveyed, 51% of adults approve of his handling of the issue. But there's not that big of a drop when it comes to those who disapprove, which is at 49%. Among voters, 9% see immigration as a top issue. The latest polling shows that 55% of adults over 18 years old disapprove of Trump's job in office, with 45% of adults in approval. NBC News added that these numbers have not changed since its April poll. Among Republicans, Trump saw an 89% approval rating, while 8% of Democrats said they approved of his second administration. Among independents, his approval stood at 35%. Pollsters also asked adults about what emotions best describe how they feel about the current administration. Out of all adults, 10% said they were 'thrilled,' 8% are 'happy,' 12% are satisfied, 18% hold a neutral position, 20% said they are dissatisfied, 9% are angry, and 23% said they are 'furious.' Among Democrats, 51% are 'furious,' according to the poll. Nearly half of that number (23%) among Republicans are happy with Trump's actions. A slight percentage more of independents are neutral (34%) about the president's actions, in contrast to independents who are dissatisfied (33%) with him. The poll was conducted between May 30 and June 10 among 19,410 adults. The estimated margin of error is plus or minus 2.1%. Hegseth faces more grilling from Congress as Iran-Israel conflict escalates

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is returning to Capitol Hill on Wednesday for the last in a series of often combative hearings before lawmakers, who have pressed him on everything from a ban on transgender troops to his use of a Signal chat to share sensitive military plans. The questions — which also have touched on his firings of top military leaders and even some of his inner circle of advisers — may be dominated by the escalation of airstrikes between Iran and Israel that threaten a potentially devastating regional war. But he is still expected to face sharp questions about his chaotic tenure, his opposition to women in combat jobs and efforts to shift funding from troop housing to border security. The U.S. has shifted significant numbers of refueling tanker and fighter aircraft to position them to be able to respond if needed to the conflict, such as possible evacuations or airstrikes. Hegseth said this week that was done to protect U.S. personnel and airbases. 'We are postured defensively in the region to be strong in pursuit of a peace deal. And we certainly hope that's what happens here," he told Fox News Channel. 'And America first means we're going to defend American personnel and American interests.' Hegseth's testimony last week in three congressional hearings also was taken over by events, with the Trump administration dispatching the National Guard and 700 active-duty Marines to the protests in Los Angeles against California Gov. Gavin Newsom's wishes. It came just ahead of a massive military parade to celebrate the Army's 250th birthday, which coincided with President Donald Trump's birthday. In the previous hearings — where Hegseth was appearing to discuss the Pentagon's spending plan — lawmakers made it clear they are unhappy that Hegseth has not provided full details on the administration's first proposed defense budget. Trump has said it would total $1 trillion, a significant increase over the current spending level of more than $800 billion. Hegseth, who is appearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Wednesday, has spent vast amounts of time during his first months in office promoting the social changes he's making at the Pentagon. He's been far less visible in the administration's more critical international security crises and negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Gaza and Iran. For example, Hegseth directed the renaming of a Navy ship that had honored Harvey Milk, a slain gay rights activist who served as a sailor during the Korean War. He also has touted other moves to eradicate diversity, equity and inclusion programs and said a ban on transgender troops in the military was a way to regain the 'warrior ethos.' It will be Hegseth's first time before some senators since he squeaked through his Senate confirmation with a tie-breaking vote. It was the closest vote of any Trump Cabinet member. While he has talked a lot about making the military more lethal, it was his use of the unclassified, unsecured Signal messaging app that quickly caught public attention. Set up by then-national security adviser Mike Waltz, a group chat that included Hegseth and other senior administration leaders was used to share information about upcoming military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen. The chat came to light because the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, was inadvertently added to it. Waltz took responsibility for the gaffe, but Hegseth was roundly criticized for sharing details about the military strikes in that chat and in another one that included his wife and brother. The Pentagon's watchdog is looking into Hegseth's use of Signal and expected to issue a report soon.

Labour warned that failure to tackle small-boats crisis risks fuelling further grooming gang cases

Labour's failure to tackle the small-boats crisis risks fuelling further grooming gang cases, the Conservatives warned yesterday. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said there are growing concerns that foreign criminals are using the border chaos to slip into Britain illegally. He said the grooming gangs scandal was becoming a 'border security issue' – and pointed to a warning in Louise Casey's official report this week, which found that a 'significant proportion' of suspects in currently live cases are asylum seekers or foreign nationals. Speaking at a press conference in London, Mr Philp said: 'The Government has no idea who the people are coming in, what their previous records are... The fact that Louise Casey in her report identifies that 'significant numbers' of perpetrators are asylum seekers or non-UK nationals, shows that the lack of control at the border is fuelling the risk here.' Baroness Casey's 'audit' was commissioned by the Government to establish whether a national inquiry is needed into the grooming gangs scandal. The report found public bodies covered up evidence about Asian grooming gangs for years 'for fear of appearing racist'. It said police data on the ethnicity of offenders was too poor to draw firm conclusions nationally. But it found that in three areas where better data had been collected – Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and Rotherham – Asian men were over-represented among suspects. The report also examined a dozen major live police operations into grooming gangs and found a 'significant proportion' of suspects are asylum seekers or were born abroad. A Home Office source said there was insufficient data to draw a clear link between small-boat arrivals and grooming gang offences. Maggie Oliver, a former detective who sounded the alarm about rape gangs operating in Rochdale, warned about the risk that record levels of illegal immigration could trigger a new wave of child grooming. She told the Daily T podcast: 'If we do not get a grip on this, we are just going to see it explode even more.' Kemi Badenoch said Baroness Casey was right to link the grooming gangs scandal to the surge in illegal migration. She told GB News: 'In some instances, it was asylum seekers – people who sought sanctuary in our country – who actually were committing these crimes. 'This is why I say that Britain is being mugged. People are exploiting our kindness and we need to put a stop to it.' Baroness Casey said there was a culture of 'denial' among many public bodies about the ethnicity of many offenders. Yesterday she revealed that she examined the case of one child's file and found the word Pakistani 'Tippexed out'. Mr Philp called for the prosecution of those in public bodies who helped cover up the grooming gangs scandal for years. He said the worst offenders should be charged with misconduct in public office and 'sent to prison'. Giving evidence to MPs yesterday, Baroness Casey said the authorities are not looking hard enough to find victims of grooming gangs. She said: 'I think people don't necessarily look hard enough to find these children.' Baroness Casey added that, while there was an over-representation of Asian men in cases of child sexual exploitation, this was not the case for child abuse, saying: 'If you look at the data for child abuse... it is white men.'
