How To Make Blush Survive The Summer Heat
With the Guava Girl aesthetic and Cherry Blossom cheeks dominating this summer's beauty trends, it's only fitting that blush is the product of the moment. There really is no better way to add a vibrant, healthy glow. 'We're all looking to look our best, and blush instantly achieves that,' agrees says makeup artist Yael Maquieira. 'It brings freshness, brightness, and a radiance that instantly transforms the face.' But the best way to use blush this summer isn't just to swipe on some flat powder and be done. Instead, Maquieira recommends using a 'blush combo that plays with tones and textures' and stays put even in sweltering heat. What is a blush combo? It may seem like a new concept, but the 'blush combo' is a technique that professionals have actually been using for years. 'It consists of first applying a cream blush and then a powder blush to set the color,' explains Maquieira. Not only does a blush combo provide dimension, but it also keeps your color looking fresher longer. 'Cream blush adds juiciness and a radiant effect—but it doesn't always last as long as we'd like,' Maquieira says. 'Powder sets and prolongs the color, allowing the effect to last longer and feel fresher, more natural, and flattering. How to apply a blush combo A long-lasting blush combo is easy to apply, just be sure to keep the following in mind: 'Blend each layer well and apply a small amount at a time, building the color little by little,' says Maquieira. Below, the expert provides more tips for getting it right: Moisturize the skin well . 'Without good hydration, the product does not blend well and will not last,' Maquieira says. . 'Without good hydration, the product does not blend well and will not last,' Maquieira says. Apply cream blush first . 'I usually apply it by picking up a little with my finger, then tapping it onto the back of my hand. From there, I dab it on with a brush, so as not to drag the foundation,' Maquieira says. . 'I usually apply it by picking up a little with my finger, then tapping it onto the back of my hand. From there, I dab it on with a brush, so as not to drag the foundation,' Maquieira says. Seal with powder blush. 'Use one side of a brush to apply, then blend with the other, clean side to avoid applying too much,' Maquieira advises. 'It allows you to better control the amount and the finish—and it's also more natural.' Which blush colors look best together? There's no limit to the hues you can combine, from pinkish to peachy to beige or brown. 'I love to combine different shades, one in cream and one in powder that match well,' says Maquieira. 'I always recommend playing with color depending on the day or the look. This way, you get a look that's more personalized and vibrant.'

This £26 blusher promises to melt into to the skin and stay all day – our beauty experts put it to the test and the results were impressive
Does. It. Work? This is what you want to know before you splash your hard-earned cash on a product. Now I can give you my verdict: as a beauty editor I have decades of experience and have tested thousands of make-up/skin/hair potions, so can make an informed comparison. But I only have one face/body and my criteria for success might differ from yours. How we test So we've decided to take a democratic approach. For this page, the YOU beauty team will choose a product we rate as the best of the best, then get a cross-section of differently aged women, with diverse skin types and tones, lifestyles and experiences, to see if it works for them. We'll then ask this panel for their honest feedback. In a world of #ads and surreptitious collaborations, this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. THE PRODUCT Merit Flush Balm £26 Shop Merit Flush Balm, £26, THE CLAIM A lightweight, blendable blush that melts into skin for colour that stays all day. THE PANEL Sandra Rhodes, 69, retired teacher and vice president of Peppard Women's Institute; Denise Flint, 76, retired office manager VALERIE TOMALIN, 80 Theatre and TV entrepreneur Merit Flush Balm review EASE 'It couldn't be simpler. Just scribble it on to your cheeks or lips and blend using a brush or fingers.' Emma 'The dome shape makes it easy to find the perfect spot on your cheekbone. Far fewer Aunt Sally mishaps than with powder blush.' Lindsay 'It glides effortlessly across the skin. I liked applying small amounts to build up the colour.' Sandra 'I found I had to blend it well.' Denise 'Easy to build up colour, creamy and very blendable.' Valerie EFFICACY 'It's faff-free, so great if you are on the move and, no matter how heavy-handed you are, it delivers a pretty, sheer-satin finish.' Emma 'Gave a natural glow, which is precisely what I needed from it.' Lindsay 'It made my cheekbones look much more sculpted. I liked using it on my lips, too.' Sandra 'Brilliant – doesn't make you look like an old doll!' Denise 'It didn't leave me feeling overly made-up and had adequate pigmentation for my needs. Preferable for mature skin!' Valerie DRAWBACKS 'I wish the dome was half as wide and twice as long – like a chubby crayon – for more precision when using on eyes and lips.' Emma 'The staying power could be longer – I reapplied before a night out straight from the office.' Lindsay 'I didn't find any negatives. It's compact enough to slip into a handbag, and application is very straightforward.' Sandra 'I didn't discover a single drawback.' Denise 'I found that it had faded towards the end of the day.' Valerie VALUE 'If used on eyes, lips and cheeks to get lots of bang for your buck, then yes; it's lovely, too, and the colours are really flattering.' Emma 'I wouldn't normally spend this much on blusher, but its innovative formula has convinced me.' Lindsay 'Its price may seem high, but as you only need to use a small amount it's good value.' Sandra 'I don't think so, I've bought blushers for far less.' Denise 'For its quality and skin-friendliness, it's worth the price.' Valerie THE VERDICT Despite the heftier price tag compared to the jury's usual blushes, this received a resounding nod of approval as it worked well for all our panel's skin types.

This New Saie Powder Blush Is My Go-To For A Healthy Summer Glow
Blush is the one makeup product in my routine that I absolutely cannot go without. It instantly makes me look awake and healthy, and it adds life back into my complexion—especially during winter months. I usually opt for liquid blush because I prefer a dewy look, and I associate powder blush with the formulas of my youth that felt chalky and could look garish. So when Saie introduced a powder blush that promised a lightweight, diffused wash of color, I was curious to see if it would change my impression of powder options. After using Saie's SuperSuede Baked Powder Blush for several months, I found that it delivers long-lasting color with a soft, radiant and surprisingly natural finish. Saie's SuperSuede Baked Powder Blush delivers a natural, lightweight flush of color that lasts all ... More day. Saie is a popular beauty brand best known for its Glowy Super Gel—a multitasking illuminator that can be worn on its own or mixed with your favorite base products—and the Dew Blush Liquid Cream Blush. The common denominator with Saie is that its formulas look natural and they're easy to apply, so I was excited to put the SuperSuede blush and its powdery texture to the test. Sephora When first trying it out, I began by swatching the blush colors on my hand using clean fingers. I was surprised at the instant color payoff—each was pigmented without looking harsh or overly bright. I then applied one of the lighter shades, Ciao, to my cheekbones using The Powder Blush Brush. I was surprised by how beautiful it looked on my skin: it blended easily, providing a just-right wash of color in a blurred, velvety finish. And it reflected the light without looking too shimmery for daytime wear. The Saie baked blush currently comes in six shades, and Mia and Ciao are the softest and most ... More wearable shades, in my opinion. After consistently using the Saie powder blush over several months (I even wore it to a workout class, and it didn't budge), I can say this has earned a permanent spot in my makeup bag. Applying it is easy—I swipe my blush brush onto the powder's surface two to three times to pick up enough color. I then tap off the excess before swiping it from the apples of my cheeks up toward my temples. I'll often combine shades for a custom flush, and I can easily build up the color for a night out. The blush currently comes in six shades: Amore (a vibrant fuchsia), Stella (a bright coral), Mia (a soft rose shade and my current favorite), Bella (a cool pink), Grazie (a bright berry) and Ciao (a soft terracotta). While six shades may seem like a limited selection compared to other similar options on the market, there's still a nice range of bright and neutral hues. Mia and Ciao are the softest shades and the most wearable, in my opinion, and I typically reach for them on a day-to-day basis. I've found that Ciao is excellent for the summer because it imparts a soft, golden glow that mimics being out in the sun. I hope that Saie expands this line to include even more shades in the future. The Saie Powder Blush looks incredibly natural on the skin and blends seamlessly, making it an ... More excellent choice for blush beginners. Although I've been a fan of liquid blush for the past couple of years, Saie's SuperSuede has made me a powder blush devotee due to its lightweight feel, velvety texture and the natural flush it creates. I love how easy it is to apply and build the color, and the shades Mia and Ciao work well with my current rotation of cream and liquid blushes, especially when I'm looking to layer products for nighttime. I'm also impressed with the staying power; it has lasted through long walks, subway rides, sweaty workouts and even a pool day where the temperature reached almost 80 degrees. Now that it's become a staple in my makeup routine, I plan to wear it all summer long.

This blush is an affordable alternative to Rare Beauty's £23 formula
As if Selena Gomez 's stellar voice and acting skills weren't enough, the 'bluest flame' singer proved a triple threat in 2020 when she launched her very own cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty. The products went down a treat with fans and make-up maestros alike and, in particular, saw huge success in the cream, liquid and powder blush department. From the incredible pigments in the soft pinch formula (£24, to the lip, cheek and eye versatility of stay vulnerable (£23, it would seem there's nothing the 32-year-old can't do. Then again, these products aren't the cheapest, so when I caught wind of a potential alternative for £10 less, I had to get my hands on it – in the name of hard-hitting journalism, of course. The product in question? No7 's velvet cloud cream-to-powder blush (£12.95, which launched in December 2024. From the uncanny pink casing to the same mauve and rose hues, there's no denying No7 had a goal in mind here. But, appearances can be misleading, so I wanted to get stuck in with both formulas for a true comparison. Scroll on for my honest review. How I tested After applying foundation, concealer, cream bronze and setting powder, I proceeded to apply the No7 and Rare Beauty blushes. For context, I used each blush on a different day (versus testing side-by-side) and used a domed fluffy brush to swipe and press the product onto the apples of my cheeks. Though some people prefer to use cream blush products before a loose powder, I've found this method dulls the pigment, especially with my oily skin melding the two shades. As the days wore on, I paid attention to any fading (or lack thereof), patchiness or pigments sinking into pores, and noted any key discrepancies between the two formulas. Here's how I got on. Why you can trust IndyBest reviews With several years of review experience spanning bronzers, mascaras and more, Lucy Smith is across all the best (and worst) beauty brands, including No7 and Rare Beauty. She's even tested No7's Bobbi Brown primer dupe and, in her guide to the best bronzers, described Rare Beauty's warm wishes formula as weightless and flattering. She's interviewed make-up artists, like Hollie Ellis and Mira Parmar, and knows her stuff when it comes to application and skin-loving ingredients.
