Govt won't raise price of RON95 amid geopolitical tensions, says PM Anwar
Anwar says that although the price increase benefits the national petroleum company, the government aims to avoid burdening the people with higher fuel costs. – Bernama photo ISKANDAR PUTERI (June 19): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given assurance that the government will not raise the price of RON95 petrol, even if there is a sharp increase in global crude oil prices due to geopolitical tensions involving Iran and Israel. He said that although the price increase benefits the national petroleum company, the government aims to avoid burdening the people with higher fuel costs. 'Oil prices fluctuate. Currently, it is relatively low. (If) there is a sharp increase, the returns are good for Petronas, but it affects other countries. We are not increasing fuel prices,' he said. Anwar, who is also PKR president, told reporters this after a meeting with the Johor PKR leadership here today. At the same time, Anwar stressed that fiscal policies, including the reimplementation of the Sales and Service Tax (SST), must be implemented carefully so as not to pressure the lower-income (B40) and middle-income (M40) groups. 'Sometimes people get confused. For example, it was said that bananas are subject to SST. Actually, it's imported bananas. But we will clarify the matter. The important thing is, we do not want to burden the lower-income group,' he said. He also suggested that government departments and agencies serve local fruits during official functions as a way to support domestic production. 'For official receptions or government office events, use local food and fruits only. It's doable. Let's support local products,' he added. Anwar said the government is open to reviewing the list of goods and services subject to tax if there is confusion or unfairness in its implementation. Commenting further on the issue of SST on educational institutions, the prime minister explained that tax is only imposed on international schools that charge fees above a certain high threshold. 'Regular schools, private schools that charge RM10,000 or RM20,000 are not taxed. But if it's RM60,000 a year, then pay a little tax,' he said. Anwar also stressed that tax revenue will be used to fund public needs such as the construction of schools and the upgrading of public healthcare facilities. 'Wherever I go, hospitals are crowded. Many schools also need repairs. We need funds, and those come from taxes, but not from ordinary citizens. We target the upper class and foreign sectors,' he said. – Bernama crude oil prices Iran Israel local fruits PM Anwar RON95 SST tax

Karnataka reconstitutes expert panels to revise healthcare package rates, private hospital norms
BENGALURU: In a move aimed at bringing uniformity and transparency to state-run health assurance schemes, the Karnataka government has reconstituted an expert committee to recommend standard package rates for medical services offered at participating establishments. The committee's primary task will be to evaluate healthcare costs and recommend uniform rates to be applied across public and private hospitals under government-supported insurance and assurance schemes. The effort is expected to reduce pricing disparities, improve access to quality care, and streamline reimbursements under schemes like Ayushman Bharat and state-run insurance programmes. 'The committee has been formed and the latest proposal highlights the need to revisit and update the existing package recommendations. Based on this, the government has formally amended the relevant rule and reconstituted the committee accordingly,' an order dated June 10 said. The newly formed panel will be chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary or Principal Secretary or Secretary to the Department of Health and Family Welfare. The committee includes key health administrators such as the Executive Director of Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST), the Health Commissioner, the Medical Education Director, and a representative from the Finance Department not below the rank of Deputy Secretary. A senior official from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology will represent tertiary public healthcare institutions. Govt forms panel to review private healthcare standard In addition to government officials, the committee also includes non-official members from institutes such as the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH), IIM-B, among others. To ensure uniform standards across private healthcare institutions in the state, the state government has reconstituted an Expert Committee to review and recommend norms for classification, infrastructure, staffing patterns and staff qualifications in private medical establishments. The reconstitution follows a proposal from the Health Commissioner who sought a revision of the committee's non-governmental members. The comm ittee will be chaired by the Health Commissioner and include senior officials from the Departments of Health, Ayush, and Medical Education. It will also have representatives from NIMHANS, PHFI, Indian Medical Association, and other bodies. The panel is tasked with reviewing and updating existing norms related to the classification of institutions, required infrastructure, staffing patterns, and minimum qualifications for medical personnel, in line with the Karnataka Private Medical Institutions (Amendment) Act.

"If There Is Any Anger...": PMK Leader Anbumani Seeks Forgiveness From Father S Ramadoss
Chennai: PMK top leader Anbumani on Sunday appealed to his father, party founder S Ramadoss to forgive him in case of "anger" against him and asserted that he is ready to follow his diktats and realise his dreams for the party. Praising Ramadoss as "national leader," Anbumani expressed confidence that a coalition regime, in which his party will be a constituent, shall next year form the government following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. Addressing the party's district level general council meeting at Tiruvallur near here, Anbumani spoke on strengthening the party by way of measures including village level outreach and enrolling youths as members. He said the district level meetings were being held to achieve such objectives. A coalition regime, in which his party will be a constituent, shall next year form the government following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, he affirmed. The PMK was not founded to facilitate the formation of government by the DMK or the AIADMK, he said without explicitly naming the two Dravidian parties. "We should also rule," he said adding only then social justice could be upheld. "We do not require anything else." Anbumani said, in 2004, his party was a partner in the UPA-I government and it was the PMK that made the demand to implement 27 percent reservation for OBCs in education in central government educational institutions a part of the Common Minimum Programme. However, when the assurance was not implemented 2 years after the formation of government by the UPA, the party founder, his father Ramadoss said the PMK may walkout of the alliance if the promise was not honoured. Only then the assurance was fulfilled by the UPA. "It was a coalition government. This is what Tamil Nadu too needs," he said and reiterated that PMK's principle is social justice. On the occasion of Father's Day on June 15, he conveyed his greetings to Ramadoss, and said the party founder should live joyously for more than 100 years with good health and peace of mind and facilitating it was also his duty as a son. "If there is any anger against me, please pardon me," Anbumani made an open appeal to his father Ramadoss when the power struggle between the father-son duo appeared to be at its peak within the party. Further, Anbumani said his father had underwent coronary bypass surgery a decade ago and the octogenarian leader had to manage blood pressure and diabetes. "That is why I said, you should maintain good health; do not get tensed up. Tell me what I should do as a son and as party president and I will do it immediately, then and there. Do not get angry and do not be concerned. This is a party you built. We will realise your dreams.," he said adding his father's 45-year hard work was nothing ordinary. "You (Ramadoss) are a national leader," he said adding PM Narendra Modi last year hailed the PMK founder as the India's senior most leader. Stressing on people's rights and referring to his proposed people's rights retrieval yatra, Anbumani accused the DMK government of "making false assurances" and deceiving the people. He claimed that people will not believe the DMK and the "countdown for the end of the DMK regime starts from today." On June 13, Ramadoss asserted that he will continue to be the party president till such time he is alive. On that day, fifty-six year old Anbumani, announced, "Tamil Nadu people's rights retrieval yatra," for 100 days commencing from July 25, the birthday of his father and PMK founder Ramadoss. The objective of the yatra is to win 10 rights. These are right to social justice, women's right to live free from violence, right to employment, right to farming and right to food and right to development. Other rights his journey will be focusing are: right to public service, right to health and right to education, and right to be free from alcohol and drug harm and right to sustainable urban development and right to a healthy environment, according to the party. Ramadoss days ago announced that he would be party chief as long as he lived. He said Anbumani should agree to function as executive president and that alone was the solution to end the bickerings within the PMK.
