Anti-vandal barrier for Sainsbury's 'based on Blackpool's landmarks'
A rollercoaster-inspired steel barrier has been designed for a Blackpool supermarket to protect the windows from vandalism while also being an art feature which showcases the resort's consultants Alder King said the Big Dipper-based design outside the Sainsbury's on Talbot Road would "protect the building from repeated damage to the glass".The design was revised after an earlier scheme was rejected by Blackpool Council because it completely obscured the ground floor.A report stated the new proposal "evokes the spirit of some of Blackpool's iconic landmarks, providing interest to the public realm, while at the same time providing the protection to the glazing".
It will feature 155 steel columns of various heights with a weathered appearance similar to Blackpool is seeking both planning and advertising consent for the steel art feature.
