David Tennant's BBC period drama with 'phenomenal' cast now on iPlayer
The most recent adaptation of Jules Verne's 1872 novel Around the World in 80 Days starring Scottish star David Tennant has been hailed as a 'riveting' and 'action-filled' delight by critics and viewers alike There have been numerous adaptations of the immensely popular 1872 novel Around the World in Eighty Days by French author Jules Verne. With various creators attempting to interpret the source material, some versions have been successful, while others have not. Fortunately, the most recent reinterpretation - a co-production between PBS and BBC in 2021 - has been a resounding success. Billed as a historical period drama, Around the World in 80 Days (2021) was commissioned by the European Alliance, a co-production alliance involving ZDF of Germany, RAI of Italy, and France Télévisions, with Be-Films/RTBF (Belgium) and Masterpiece (US) also participating as co-production partners. The series was produced in South Africa, France, and the UK, with additional filming taking place in Romania. After initially premiering on La Une in Belgium in 2021, Around the World in 80 Days made its debut on BBC One in the UK on December 26, 2021. Prior to its series premiere, it was announced that the show had been renewed for a second season pre-release, however in October 2024, it was reported that there were currently no plans to extend the series beyond its first season. David Tennant takes the lead as Phileas Fogg, with Ibrahim Koma as Jean Passepartout, and Leonie Benesch portraying Abigail Fix Fortescue in this latest series adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days, documenting their globe-trotting wager-driven journey. The show, whilst a work of fiction, features historical figures such as Bass Reeves, Adolphe Thiers, and Jane Digby within its narrative, reports the Express. The show boasts an 81 per cent critics approval on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a warm reception to this retelling of Jules Verne's classic. A reviewer complimented the timeless appeal of the story: "There's a reason that Jules Verne's novel has been made and re-made over the decades -- it's a riveting adventure tale, and this version is no exception." Another critic shared their take on the contemporary resonance of the series: "This new adaptation of Around The World In 80 Days more or less tells new stories that may have more parallels into the 21st century than the 19th. But it's also an action-filled, fast-moving delight." Yet, not all were enthused, with a less favourable view suggesting: "It's ultimately a middling, entirely unnecessary new take on Verne's classic adventure novel, and its main cast seems aware they're starring in what amounts to an afterschool special." Some viewers praised the new adaptation's timely arrival: "There is something about this time of year that demands a good, solid adaptation of a literary classic. Right on cue, here is Around the World in 80 Days for the entire family to enjoy." Happy fans echoed the sentiment, with an enthusiastic viewer sharing: "Nice cast, good work, I read the book and watched all the previous versions (also the anime). I like how it was changed." Another enthusiast commended the recent adaptation: "It's about time Jules Verne's famous story got the screen adaptation it deserves. Around the World in 80 Days is a fresh take on the timeless classic with a few tweaks to suit a modern audience. The cast is phenomenal. The writing, directing, cinematography, and production design are all brilliant and bring back memories of a time when TV productions weren't the c**p streaming services spit out nowadays." Meanwhile, a more measured opinion came from a viewer offering a balanced critique: "A solid enough adaptation of the Verne classic, that does play it rather safe at times. It tries to tackle some important social issues along the way, but it does come across at times as rather forced and half baked."

Tom Felton to reprise role as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy for the Harry Potter And The Cursed Child play. The Surrey-born actor, who starred in all the film adaptations of JK Rowling's fantasy novel until the last movie in 2011, will make a comeback as Harry Potter's school bully on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre in New York later this year. The production said he was the 'first actor from the films to reprise' their role on stage, and this will be Felton's Broadway debut. 'It's surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. 'I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community.' Felton, 37, made his West End debut in the supernatural thriller 2:22 – A Ghost Story in 2022. He will begin his run in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child on November 11 for a limited 19 weeks, the production said on Thursday. The play, written by Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne, began in 2016 in London and has had a Broadway run since 2018. It was co-devised by Rowling, and is set 19 years after the events of the seventh and final book, with Ministry of Magic employee Harry and his wife Ginny Weasley waving off their youngest son Albus Severus to school. The two-part play, which stretches over five hours, sees Albus struggle at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with the weight of his family legacy and go to extreme and dangerous lengths to right the wrongs of the past. Since the ending of the film franchise, Felton has been in 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and had recurring roles in the TV series Murder In The First, The Flash and Origin. He has also used his voice in the Harry Potter video games, based on the movie, and featured in the special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who played Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The seven Harry Potter books are set to be brought to the small screen by HBO, with production beginning at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in summer 2025. The young stars have been cast with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron, while the new Draco has not yet been confirmed. Earlier this year, British actor Paapa Essiedu and US star John Lithgow were confirmed as the cruel Professor Severus Snape and Hogwarts headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore, respectively. Also joining is Welsh comedian and actor Paul Whitehouse as the magic-less Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch, and Hot Fuzz actor Nick Frost as the friendly groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. Ryan Gosling Could Be White Black Panther in MCU After Ketema Reveal
The controversial meme depicting Ryan Gosling as has resurfaced following the reveal of Ketema, a white young man, as a version of the Protector of Wakanda in Marvel Comics. Notably, Black Panther, both in comics and in various adaptations, has been depicted as a Black person of African origin. This includes the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which Black Panther has been portrayed by Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright. Ketema unmasked himself in Marvel Knights: The World To Come #1 (2025), disclosing that he was a white young man. This prompted the above-mentioned meme to return in circulation, and fans to wonder whether Ryan Gosling's casting as Black Panther might even become real in the future. However, this seems unlikely. Marvel Comics Introduces T'Challa's White Son Ketema As Future Black Panther And King Of Wakanda byu/Solid-Move-1411 inAvengers The first issue of Christopher Priest and Joe Quesada's new Marvel Knights: The World To Come miniseries sets up the stage for the narrative. T'Challa is dead, and the story goes back and forth across time to depict its impact. In one scene, taking place several years before the primary setting, an older T'Challa takes on Ketema, a man in a Black Panther costume, in a tribal challenge. It soon becomes apparent through the interaction between the characters that Ketema is T'Challa's son, and there is a lot of antagonistic sentiment between them. Eventually, Ketema triumphs over his father and unmasks himself to reveal that he has blonde hair and pale skin. He declares, 'I am king now. Wakanda is mine.' The issue also reveals that T'Challa reconciled with his former fiancée, Monica Lynne, after his marriage to X-Men member Storm / Ororo Munroe fell apart. Lynne became pregnant at some point. However, Lynne, like T'Challa, is Black. So, it's unlikely that Ketema is the child from that pregnancy. Further, it remains unclear whether Ketema is even T'Challa's biological son. As the miniseries continues, fans will likely get more answers on the matter.

Classic anime ‘Kochikame' streams in English for first time in U.S. and Canada
