Stop telling people they are old and ugly, says Samina

Samina Peerzada and Sonya Hussaiyn may have just been warring on film as onscreen mother – and daughter-in-law in Deemak, but it will surprise no one to learn that in real life, both stars are united when it comes to denouncing the one issue that encompasses all women: body-shaming. "We should not body-shame anyone," stated Samina categorically during a recent appearance on a local talk show. "No one should say anything about anyone's looks. This is wrong. I don't like this at all. And it has become far too prevalent on social media." As a screen veteran, Samina, musing over a youth-obsessed society, added that she takes personal offence when unsolicited and baseless comments on age enter the equation. "I especially dislike it when someone is a senior and they are told to just step back from it all," continued the Zindagi Gulzar Hai actor. "For a start, in acting, there is no such thing as 'senior' or 'junior' – you are given a character, and you just play it, whatever your age. No one has the right to tell you to stay home and imply you should give up just because you are older." Adding her thoughts, Sonia chimed in with her own defence against unwanted aspersions. "I think people have a habit of commenting on everything – not just on your body," pointed out the Saraab star. "It is up to you how to take something positively or not. People will talk, and you need to know what to discard." Advising those who criticise age or looks, Samina urged fans to focus on merit and a happy demeanour, rather than lost youth and outward beauty. "Instead of all this, you should count people's achievements and how hard they have worked to get to where they are," she insisted. Hinting at double standards where the very act of taking pride in one's appearance is open to mockery the older one gets, Samina cited the example of fellow screen veteran Bushra Ansari – known amongst her fans and YouTube followers for facing negativity with a relentless positive energy. "If someone looks after themselves and takes pride in how they look and are full of life, like Bushra – well, I admire her!" stressed Samina with warmth. "I love her energy! She does so many amazing things with such confidence, without any hesitation!" With Samina's strictures on letting confidence go hand-in-hand with age, coupled with Sonya's advice on discarding unwanted comments, combating body-shaming may just become a little easier.

Mansha debunks separation rumour with husband Jibran

In an interview with Ahmad Ali Butt, Mansha Pasha debunked the rumour that her marriage with Mohammad Jibran Nasir had turned sour. Recalling an incident where a neighbour asked a relative of Jibran whether the two had separated, Mansha said, "Since Jibran doesn't attend a lot of social gatherings with me, people probably think that we're having problems." The Zindagi Gulzar Hai actor observed that the idea of a good relationship has evolved. "The barometer of a happy relationship has changed now. The more you're seen on social media, the happier you are to the world." In a generation where influencer couples and families have dominated the digital sphere, Mansha prefers keeping that part of her life as private as possible. "I believe that only a few families can tolerate the kind of pressure where they are scrutinised by a 100 people online. We try to ensure that any matter of the home doesn't leave the home." Speaking of baseless assumptions, Mansha also opened up about people's tendency to offer her beauty advice, such as considering reconstructive surgery, without her asking for it. Although Mansha admitted that these people don't frequently push her into getting any procedures done, they are still prone to making assumptions about her. "These days, people think that going to the dermatologist means getting something else done," she said. "But I have an acne breakout every summer due to the exposure to light and makeup. So for that, of course, I have a dermatologist." The Laal Kabootar actor added that unsolicited advice fuels unnecessary insecurities. "People put these thoughts into your head that there's something wrong with your facial features. I think it's very unkind and unsolicited, too." She believes that it's an entirely different thing wanting that for yourself without anyone's coercion. "If you have had a dip in your face since birth and you want to get it corrected, or if there's a mole you want fixed, or anything else, you are well aware of it. That's fine. That's on you. But the unwanted 'Get this done,' and 'Get that done,' I feel that that's very unnecessary. I didn't ask you for advice. Why are you making me think that there's something wrong with my face?" Mansha's reasoning was simple: she grew up with her face, so naturally she can assess if her face has any issues that need fixing. "If I want to try something out, I will," she stated.

Mother's Day celebrations offer comfort amid war

Amid the uncertainty and disarray caused by the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and India, Mother's Day arrived to offer some solace and a reminder of what most people hold dear. Taking a break from defending their country online, Pakistani celebrities took to Instagram to pay tribute to their caregivers and celebrate motherhood. In an Instagram post shared Sunday, Aiman Khan flaunted the mini-festivity set up by her family. "My Amal planned this," she said of photos of her cutting a flower-topped cake with her daughters and actor-husband Muneeb Butt as balloons hovered in the backdrop. "One of the greatest gifts I've ever gotten are my daughters," she added. Meanwhile, Zara Noor Abbas penned a heartfelt note in gratitude of her little one. "Noore Jahan, thank you for making me your Mama. You are my softness, my strength, my most honest reflection. Because of you and my mother (Asma Abbas), I understand what it means to love with every inch of my soul," she wrote. Paying tribute to all mothers and even those suffering from the tragedy of losing their children, Zara added, "Today, I hold space not just for myself, but for every woman - the ones who've carried life and lost it, the ones who mother in silence, from afar, or in memory, and those whose babies aren't babies anymore but will forever be their hearts walking outside their bodies." She continued, "To the women who gave birth, to the ones who raised, to the ones who are still waiting, and to the ones who once were: you are seen. You are sacred. And you are never alone in your motherhood. This day is for all of us. With love, with ache, with grace." A sacred status For first-time mothers like Saboor Ali, the occasion was nothing less than a milestone in this lifelong journey. "My first Mother's Day, with Serena in my arms and my own Mama in my heart," Saboor wrote, honouring both her baby and her late mother. "I wish she were here to see me become a mother but I feel her in the way I love Serena, in the way I nurture, in every quiet strength I didn't know I had, and in the kind of love that never ends," she added. "Today, I honour her, I celebrate Serena, and I step fully into the role she once held so beautifully. This love is hers, passed through me." Reflecting on the strength that motherhood lends her, she said, "I've never felt love this deep, this fierce, this sacred. I finally understand what love without limits feels like. My first Mother's Day, and I'm already forever changed." Sanam Saeed, on the other hand, not just celebrated her mother on the occasion but seemingly also dropped a special announcement. Sharing old and new photos with her mother, Sanam wrote, "I'll be one very soon Insha Allah, and I pray I'm every bit like her and more." Dropping a long list of traits she wishes to acquire from her mother, the Zindagi Gulzar Hai actor added that she wants to be "loving, nurturing, attentive, cool, fierce, fun, impulsive, confident, and a lioness." In addition, Sanam would also like to be "smart, approachable, supportive, honest, vulnerable, real, forgiving, and compassionate." As to how she views her mother, Sanam has three strong titles reserved for her nurturer: "My saviour, my protector, my role model." She added, "Happy Mother's Day to every single mama out there."
