Trade Pitch Moves Rays' Zack Littell to Dodgers

Trade Pitch Moves Rays' Zack Littell to Dodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. No matter how many starting pitchers the Los Angeles Dodgers have at their disposal, there always seems to be a need for more of them. Advertisement The Dodgers' list of players at the position is a lengthy one: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow and Dustin May. And that doesn't include two-way pitcher Shohei Ohtani, who made his return to the mound on Monday, and both Tony Gonsolin and Roki Sasaki, who are currently sidelined with injuries. But as the famous saying goes, "The more, the merrier." And MLB Network Insider sees current Tampa Bay Rays starter Zack Littell as another arm that could join the Dodgers' roster ahead of the trade deadline. Feinsand also lists the Athletics, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs as trade destinations for Littell. "The 40-33 Rays currently hold the top Wild Card spot in the American League and sit only 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, but Tampa Bay has a history of buying and selling based on players' contract situations, making Littell – an impending free agent at the end of the season – a potential trade chip," Feinsand wrote. "Given the number of teams looking for rotation help, Littell (6-6, 3.84 ERA in 14 starts) could bring back a solid return for Tampa Bay, a team with enough rotation depth from which to deal." Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zack Littell (52) throws a pitch in the first inning against the Baltimore Orioles at George M. Steinbrenner Dyer-Imagn Images Littell, who began his MLB career as a reliever, has emerged as a consistent starter over the past three years. He is a career 30-28 pitcher with a 3.91 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 427 strikeouts and 114 walks in 508.2 innings pitched across 217 appearances, including 62 starts. Advertisement Littell has played for four clubs in his big league career: the Minnesota Twins (2018-2020), San Francisco Giants (2021-2022), Boston Red Sox (2023) and Rays (2023 to present). Cubs Trade Idea Ships Pair of Prospects for Rays RHP Zack Littell

Cubs Trade Idea Ships Pair of Prospects for Rays RHP Zack Littell originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs should find themselves as buyers at this year's trade deadline. They could lose faith in the Kyle Tucker negotiations and choose to blow everything up, but, at 45-28 and 6.5 games up for the National League Central lead, it feels like win-now mode. Advertisement One potential option is Tampa Bay Rays right-handed starting pitcher Zack Littell. Mark Feinsand of listed the Cubs as a possible fit. Here is what that trade could look like: Chicago receives: RHP Zack Littell Tampa Bay gets: RHP Brody McCullough (No. 23), RHP Nazier Mulé (No. 26) Littell, 29, is a pending free agent, and should the Rays deal him, he would likely only require a mid-tier prospect or a pair of lower-tier ones. He has been solid in this Tampa Bay rotation this season, going 6-7 with a 3.88 ERA, a 5.32 FIP, and 61 strikeouts to 11 walks over 92 and 2/3 innings. He is far from the perfect pitcher, but would slot in nicely at the back of the Cubs' staff, particularly with Shota Imanaga still recovering from his left hamstring injury. Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell (11) walks off the field after he is ejected in the fifth inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Osentoski-Imagn Images Chicago should feel decent about its trio of Matthew Boyd (2.79 ERA, 3.60 FIP), Jameson Taillon (3.48 ERA, 4.59 FIP), and Colin Rea (3.84 ERA, 4.14 FIP). But, they are all north of 33 years old, and adding another innings eater will help their postseason chances. Advertisement Rookie Cade Horton (3.47 ERA, 3.73 FIP) deserves a stay based on his first six starts. However, he also dealt with shoulder issues last summer and was limited to just 34 and 1/3 innings. Perhaps the Cubs, trying to monitor his workload, seek Littell's services. Adding Littell would also likely force Ben Brown (5.57 ERA, 3.44 FIP) into long relief duties as he has failed to build upon an impressive 2024 rookie campaign. Littell is not the sole piece that gets the Cubs over the hump, but he can provide value to a team in search of pitching support.
