'We burnt whole house by standing for one person. Where is he?': Yograj Singh reignites fury over MS Dhoni-era decisions

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh, father of all-round great Yuvraj, has once again made a rather controversial remark, most likely aimed at MS Dhoni. Yograj has long been a staunch critic of Dhoni, seemingly after Yuvraj Singh was dropped from the Indian team under the former's captaincy. While Yuvraj had been a regular feature for India, particularly in white-ball formats, under Dhoni, his appearances became more sporadic following his return after recovering from cancer. During an interaction with InsideSport, Yograj spoke about the 'brotherly' culture in the Indian team during the Ganguly era, stating that it changed because of 'one man.' While Yograj didn't explicitly name the person, the signs led to Dhoni. '(We had) Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, and others. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), Yuvi (Yuvraj), Viru (Virender Sehwag), (Mohammed) Kaif, Zaheer (Khan) among youngsters. Combination of elder and younger brothers. That's why they could lead the youngsters and become the greatest of all time. And what we did? We burned out the whole house by just standing for one person. I won't name him. Where is he? See what happened,' said Yograj. 'When you give love, you get people like Sachin, Yuvi, Gambhir, Viru. They will never go down the drain. They will always be stars.' This isn't the first time when Yograj took an aim at India's leadership after the Ganguly era. In the same interaction, he earlier accused the selectors of abruptly discarding some of the country's biggest match-winners after the 2011 ODI World Cup triumph. Yograj recalled how several stalwarts of the game were denied a proper send-off, with their exits handled without grace or accountability. 'You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason,' Yograj told InsideSport in an exclusive interaction. 'Boys like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. You just made them go after 2011.' Most of the names mentioned were dropped or faded from the national scheme within 18 months of India's title win; while Kaif hadn't been a part of Team India in 2011, Dravid and Laxman were regular features in Test squad a the time. Both retired a year later.

Yuvraj Singh's On-Field Spat With Australia Great Revealed: Yograj Singh Says "Not School..."

Former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has recalled how sledging from the Australian team, led by Steve Waugh, made his son a mentality beast on the field. Yograj insisted that while Waugh's words might seem to be harsh, they taught Yuvraj to be tough and give it back to the opposition. When Yuvraj first arrived at the scene as an 19-year-old, he wasn't as expressive as he was when he finished his career. It was only after that incident that changed everything. Yograj also recalled the incident when Yuvraj got into a heated argument with England great Andrew Flintoff during a T20 World Cup 2007 Super Six fixture, but took his anger out on a young Stuart Broad, hitting him for six sixes in an over. "For me, it's a war fought by gentlemen. While you are in the field, there are times you are just going through the motions, and people should understand this. I don't know whether you have heard what Australians do on the field. They abuse everything which is in the world. They use every harsh word in the dictionary. I remember when Yuvraj was hit by a ball and he fell. Steve Waugh came and said, 'Get up, this is not school cricket, you bloody kid'," Yograj told Inside Sport. "And he just got up and he was standing. And then he would swear like this and what happened with Flintoff and Yuvi," he added. Yograj also pointed out that emotions often tend to get the better of players when they are playing for the country, so whatever happens on the field stays on it. "You are still friends when you go out. Everybody is not the same. Emotions go, forgive them. Obviously, at the end of the day, you are friends. You say sorry to each other and that is over. Have a big heart. Don't get into all these petty things. There is nonsense going on, fining kids and all this kind of stuff. It doesn't matter," he added. Yograj made these revelations while speaking about the BCCI penalising Lucknow Super Kings (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi for his trademark 'notebook' celebration. Speaking on the matter, Yograj suggested that it is all in the sport and that youngsters must not be fined for such petty issues.

‘This isn't school cricket, you bloody...': Yuvraj Singh faced the wrath of Steve Waugh, then started swearing

Sledging Yuvraj Singh is not the best of ideas. England great Andrew Flintoff found out the hard way in the 2007 T20 World Cup when the India white-ball legend unleashed hell on pacer Stuart Broad, smashing him for six sixes in an over in a Super Six stage match at Durban. After achieving the rare feat, Yuvraj even pointed his bat towards Flintoff, with whom he had been involved in a heated argument not too long ago. But this was not always the case. When Yuvraj first turned up for India as a 19-year-old, he wasn't nearly as feisty as Flintoff found him to be seven years later. In fact, arguing or swearing on the field was the last thing on the all-rounder's mind while playing cricket. It was his debut against Australia that changed everything. Yuvraj's father Yograj Singh, a former India cricketer, revealed how sledging from the Australian team led by the legendary Steve Waugh taught Yuvraj to be tough and give it back. Yograj said Waugh, who only played a couple of ODIs against Yuvraj, told the India batter to get up and face the music when he was hit by a bouncer. "For me, it's a war fought by gentlemen. While you are on the field, there are times you are just going through the motions and people should understand this. I don't know whether you have heard what Australians do on the field. They abuse everything which is in the world. They use every harsh word in the dictionary. I remember when Yuvraj was hit by a ball and he fell. Steve Waugh came and said, 'Get up, this is not school cricket, you bloody kid'," Yograj told Inside Sports. Yograj then went on to add that what transpired between Yuvraj and Flintoff was only because his son had learnt to swear and give it back to the opposition after getting the wrath from Waugh. "And he just got up and he was standing. And then he would swear like this and what happened with Flintoff and Yuvi," Yograj added. Yuvraj was Player of the Match on his international debut in the Champions Trophy quarterfinal against Australia in 2000 in Nairobi, Kenya. Coming in to bat at No.5, the youngster fresh from success in the U19 World Cup, took on the best of the Australian bowlers on his way to a stroke-filled 84 off 80 balls that included 12 boundaries that helped India post 265/9. Yuvraj always displayed tremendous fielding skills. He took a sharp catch to dismiss Ian Harvey and then Australia a body blow by running out Michael Bevan, one of the best finishes of the game. India won the match by 20 runs after bowling Australia out for 245 to advance to the semi-final of the tournament. Yograj said emotions are bound to fluctuate when players represent their country, so one shouldn't harp too much about it.

"Taught me to never give up": Yuvraj Singh pens emotional note on Father's Day

New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): On Father's Day, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh shared a heartfelt and emotional note on Sunday to express his deep appreciation for his father, Yograj Singh. Sharing a heartfelt message on his Instagram story, Yuvraj highlighted the invaluable life lessons his father has instilled in him over the years. 'Happy Father's Day baapu! The one who taught me that the only finish line worth crossing is the one you reach by never giving up! Lots of love,' he wrote, tagging his father's official Instagram handle, @yograjofficial. A former cricketer himself, Yograj Singh is known for his strict discipline and relentless drive, qualities that evidently shaped Yuvraj's own fighting spirit, both on and off the field. Yuvraj represented India in 402 international games from 2000-2017, scoring 11,178 runs at an average of 35.05, 17 centuries, and 71 fifties. He was part of the Indian team that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2002 (joint-winners with Sri Lanka), the ICC T20 World Cup 2007, and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. He was also the first Indian player to hit six successive sixes in an over in international cricket, doing so during the 2007 T20 World Cup against England. His career-high was the 'Player of the Tournament' performance during the 2011 World Cup, scoring 362 runs in nine matches with a century and four half-centuries and picking up 15 wickets. (ANI)
