Soccer Aid star Roman Kemp broke Welsh rugby hero's finger in charity match

Soccer Aid star Roman Kemp broke Welsh rugby hero's finger in charity match Roman Kemp is back for Soccer Aid 2025 and has history when it comes to celebrity football matches Soccer Aid's Roman Kemp (Image: PA ) Soccer Aid regular Roman Kemp will once again be donning his boots this weekend, turning out for England against the Rest of the World XI at Old Trafford on Sunday. Wearing the Three Lions on his chest makes a change for the popular One Show and radio presenter. In past Soccer Aids, the Los Angeles-born Kemp has turned out for the Rest of the World side thanks to his dual citizenship. Having played in 2019 and 2020, he was forced to pull out in 2021 after testing positive for Covid-19. ‌ However, he made his return to the match last year before switching allegiances this year. ‌ Famous father's health battle and money struggles In the debut episode of his 'You About?' podcast with friend and Soccer Aid team-mate Tom Grennan, Kemp opened up on having famous parents. His dad is Spandau Ballet bassist and EastEnders star Martin Kemp, while his mum is Shirlie Kemp of Pepsi & Shirlie fame. Tom quizzed his friend about the media presence in his younger years, prompting Roman to speak about how his dad suffered from a serious health condition and had to undergo operations "for his brain". Article continues below "You've got two ways of looking at it, basically," he said. "Like, it's one or the other. Like, my parents like had us in flipping OK! and Hello magazine when we were kids, right? "But that's because my parents had no money at the time, because my dad had all these operations and s**t for his brain, so they were trying to get more money, right?" During a medical examination in 1997, an MRI revealed that Martin had two brain tumours, one of which was removed with surgery, while the other was addressed via radiotherapy. ‌ Although these operations proved successful, the side effects continue to this day, with the musician suffering from epilepsy. Martin also struggles with dyslexia, while, in November 2024, he made a stark revelation about his brain tumour battle, suggesting that he believes he has just 10 years left to live. Injuring a Welsh rugby legend As well as Soccer Aid, Roman has experience with charity football matches - although one saw him injure a Welsh rugby legend. ‌ Last year, Kemp was up against former Wales wing Shane Williams in a match in aid of Josh's Smile and The Bradley Lowery Foundation. Celebrities and former sportsmen from the countries competed against one another at the Stadium in a Wales v England clash. Rugby legend Williams arrived a tad late for the fixture, having taken part on the CARTEN 100-mile bike ride in the morning from Cardiff to Tenby. He darted back to Swansea for the game but managed to do some damage to one of his digits soon after. ‌ Posting to Instagram after the match, Williams said: "Well that was a busy Saturday! Carten ride then Joseph's Smile UK Wales v England footy match at Stadium. All for brilliant causes. Wales 2 England 0 by the way! Dislocated finger and pulled hamstring to boot! What can you do… I had fun!" It turns out that the dislocated finger was caused by radio and TV star Kemp, who, in Williams' words, "absolutely clattered" him. "I did the CARTEN bike ride, it was about 23 degrees, it was a warm one," Williams explained on the Sportin Wales podcast. Article continues below "I had the factor 50 on my bald spots as well. I managed to survive that, and then I had to get down to the Stadium for the Joseph's Smile charity match that I promised I would do. I was late, I got there at half-time, cameo role. Got on, and lucky enough to have the pleasure of playing in the stadium again. Good crowd down there which was nice. "I got clattered by Roman Kemp and dislocated my finger, which is not one of the highlights of my sporting career to be honest with you! Then pulled my hamstring. But we won 2-0 so that was the main thing."

Viktor Gyokeres could join Man United to live near Erling Haaland

Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres is likely to move to the Red Devils so he can live near Erling Haaland, it has been claimed. That's the view of musician Tom Grennan, who says he knows the Swedish striker well from his time playing for Coventry City, the club he supports. Advertisement Gyokeres is right at the top of United manager Ruben Amorim's wishlist for the summer transfer window after bagging over 50 goals last season and 43 the year before under his tutelage for Sporting CP. For comparison United's current squad managed only 44 league goals between them last season, so it's little wonder the Portuguese boss is looking at a reunion with his prize striker from his time in Lisbon. The 27-year-old is said to be furious that Sporting CP reneged on the gentleman's agreement to let him leave the club for less than the €80m they are now demanding, and has even told them he will never play for them again as a result. With his future seemingly away from Portugal, United are a distinct possibility for his next destination, especially with Arsenal's priority striker signing now looking like RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Advertisement And according to Grennan, Gyokeres will be delighted with a move to Manchester as he can live next door to his best friend, Manchester City striker Haaland. The musician told the BBC podcast You About?, via the Daily Mirror: 'I know him well. I actually messaged him and he said that there's different conversations going on. 'Do you know who his best friend is? Haaland. That is why I think he'll go to Manchester United because he'll be next door to Haaland.' Should he end up becoming a Red Devil, the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping he emulates the towering Norwegian's performances in England where he has 121 goals in 142 matches for City. Advertisement Since missing out on Haaland things haven't quite worked out for United's reinforcements at centre-forward, with Rasmus Hojlund the highest-profile arrival in that position. After a dismal campaign saw him on the scoresheet in the Premier League just four times, he may be set for a summer move to Inter Milan as Amorim looks for reliable goals up front. Gyokeres expected to join Man Utd as Haaland role emerges - 'I know him well'

Viktor Gyokeres is looking to head to Manchester United this summer according to singer and Coventry City fan Tom Grennan - who has remained friendly with the Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres will head to Manchester United this summer so that he can be neighbours with Erling Haaland according to musician Tom Grennan. The Swede has excelled at Sporting Lisbon for the past two years, which has resulted in interest from around Europe. The Premier League is touted as his most likely destination with the Red Devils and Arsenal the two leading the race for his signature. ‌ Gyokeres scored more than 50 goals last term and has been tipped to reunite with Amorim in Manchester after the Portuguese boss swapped Lisbon for Old Trafford midway through the campaign. ‌ United are looking to bolster their forward line and Gyokeres would be able to supply goals on a regular basis. His career has skyrocketed since he left Championship side Coventry City. Grennan is a fan of the Sky Blues and remains good pals with their former striker. He said on the BBC podcast You About?: "I know him well. I actually messaged him and he said that there's different conversations going on. Do you know who his best friend is? Haaland. That is why I think he'll go to Manchester United because he'll be next door to Haaland." Haaland has been hugely impressive and successful during his three years in England. He's just missed out on the Premier League title for the first time but has broken numerous records since swapping Borussia Dortmund for Manchester City. Those on the blue half of Manchester remain the city's dominant force and finished some 29 points ahead of United. Amorim is tasked with making the Red Devils a winning-outfit once more and adding Gyokeres would help their chances and the striker has an agreement to leave the club. However it is understood that Gyokeres has been left fuming with Sporting after they demanded more for him than they promised as he looks for a way out of the Portuguese club. The Lisbon outfit have been demanding £67million for him. Previously they agreed that they would demand £50m plus £8.4m in add-ons this summer - meaning they asked for almost £10m more, reports Record. The Swede recently addressed his future and said: 'Let us see. It's hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what's going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible.'

Tom Grennan wrecked car after crashing into faeces filled sewage pipes

Tom Grennan was left covered in poo when he smashed his car into a London hotel's sewage pipes in an underground car park. The 29-year-old singer wrecked his six-day-old Mercedes-Benz G-Class - also known as a G-Wagon - when he forced the vehicle into the parking facility when it did not fit after he needed somewhere to stop off for a comfort break en route to a ballet show date with his wife, Danniella Carraturo. Tom - who was wearing a white suit - recalled how the G-Wagon's sun roof "ripped open" before his vision went "dark" and he felt cold all over his body. Then he realised he and his car were "covered" in human excrement and other waste. Tom - who gets "PTSD" from recalling the stinker of an ordeal - told Roman Kemp on the 'You About?' podcast: "Everything went dark, right? And, and cold. And I'm sat in this brand-new G-Wagon with human waste. "There's tampons in the car. There's like - I've got a white suit on because I'm going to the ballet, so I wore a white suit to the ballet. So now I'm like covered in waste. "And, honestly, I had to do the whole journey again because I had to turn the car around. "There's full-on solid poos. And I'm like, Oh my days." Tom, who cried as the G-Wagon's sunroof caved in, bawled when he phoned Danniella to explain what had happened and to apologise for being "late". And the 'Let's Go Home Together' singer, who did not want to go to the ballet in the first place, was shocked by Danniella's response to the dirty disaster. Tom said: "I got up and rang my missus because I was late, and I was like in tears. "And I rang my missus like, 'Well, you're never gonna believe what's happened.' And she went, 'I knew you didn't want to go to the ballet!" "I couldn't believe her reaction!" Before telling Roman - whose dad is former Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp and mum is ex-Wham! vocalist Shirlie Kemp - about his tale, Tom said: "This car story gives me PTSD. Like, I can't go into underground car parks."

Roman Kemp 'singled out' by Justin Bieber as he details awkward meeting

Roman Kemp said Justin Bieber once asked his opinion during a private listening session for his album Changes, but wasn't too impressed by the radio host's feedback Roman Kemp said he was once "singled out" by Justin Bieber during an awkward meeting with the Canadian singer. The radio host, 32, revealed details of the encounter which happened during private listening session for Justin's 2020 album, Changes. Roman said Justin invited him on stage to give feedback on the album in front of music industry executives - but their exchange quickly took an awkward turn. ‌ Roman said on the latest episode of his BBC Sounds podcast You About?, co-hosted with singer Tom Grennan: "He singled me out. He said I've got to come up on stage. He plays these tunes to all these label execs, looks at me and goes, 'What do you think of that one?'" ‌ Sharing his opinion, Roman said: "It's alright." But Justin didn't seem too impressed, according to the former Capital Breakfast host, as the singer replied: "Roman said it's alright? Alright?" He said he then felt the need to share more details and told Justin: "Well, yeah. It's not your best, not your worst." He added: "My words were, 'It's decent' - but I don't think he appreciated it." Roman still follows Justin on Instagram, but the singer doesn't follow him back. Back in 2021, Roman said he would often go out to party with Justin when they were younger - but admitted he is now a changed man. Chatting to The Sun, Roman revealed Justin invited him along to dinner before a party around the time he released his Purpose album. "Without a doubt, he was the wildest. He's grown into a very different young man now. He's a lot more serious and focused," Roman told the publication. "But around his Purpose album (in 2015) when he was in London, I have never seen anything like that in my life - and I thought I'd seen a lot. It went on for three weeks, every single night." ‌ Roman added that the partying "just kept going" and he reflected on the attention he received while in the presence of Justin. "I think I was 24, he'd just turned 21 and I remember standing on a sofa in a nightclub looking up and every girl in that room was trying to get my eye to say, 'You can come on to this table.' It's different world." He added: "We'd go for dinner, then leaving he didn't call for the bill. He was like, 'Oh, they sort it.' It's unbelievable, on a different level." Earlier this year, Roman opened up about feeling the "pressure" of a family trait, admitting there are times he feels like he doesn't "care". In a March recent instalment of their podcast, FFS! My dad Is Martin Kemp, Roman confessed to being "stressed" this week and often wanting to "turn everything off". This led him to question his dad, Martin, about the idea of retiring, only to learn that Martin couldn't imagine stopping. The conversation took a turn when Roman pinpointed the source of the pressure: "You." To which a surprised Martin responded, "From me? Why me? You've got a great work ethic. Is work that another way of saying you work your b***s off?". Roman clarified his view on what constitutes a good work ethic: "Good work ethic isn't you working your b******s off. It's about a balance between work and life split whilst maintaining drive." He then delved into his personal struggle: "Can you maintain drive and ambition alongside being true to yourself and understanding who you are? I struggle with that massively because I I just run myself into a moment where I'm like, 'I don't care anymore. I don't care. Like, sack it all off'."
