OFFICIAL: Orlando Pirates board selects their new head coach

Orlando Pirates have mulled over a key decision for months. Jose Riveiro left the club, and there's a big name arriving. Rulani Mokwena will return to the Buccaneers for 2025-2025. The 38-year-old leaves Wydad AC after an underwhelming season in Morocco. 'Mayele will only come to South Africa for a holiday and Amapiano' 38-year-old Rulani Mokwena will be the next Orlando Pirates manager, according to several local sources. The former Sundowns head coach oversaw 35 matches with Wydad Casablanca in a spell that lasted under 10 months. He returned an average of 1.60 points per game in that sample. Mokwena held assistant and caretaker manager roles at Pirates from 2017 to 2019. The ever-reputable @UnplayableZA on X believes Pirates will unveil as many as eight new signings soon. Sihle Nduli, Kabelo Kgositsile, Tshepo Mashilone, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Tshepang Moremi are all expected to be Buccaneers soon. Yanela Mbuthuma will challenge Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa for a striking role. He got five goals and two assists in 24 league appearances last term for Richards Bay. Orlando Pirates have reportedly sealed the deal on yet another signing ahead of next season, beating Kaizer Chiefs to it. Furthermore, his Polokwane City teammate Thabang Matuludi, Chippa United star Sinoxolo Kwayiba too. The two clubs are also reported to be interested in Fawaaz Basadien, who Mamelodi Sundowns are eyeing too. Shock loss of star NRB striker

Less than a month after announcing that star centre forward Yanela Mbuthuma had been secured on a long term contract, news broke today (Thursday) that the recent Bafana Bafana cap has been snapped up by Orlando Pirates. The 23 year old has been the talk of the town with 6 goals in the past season in all competitions and showing vast improvement after rising from the Diski U23 ranks. But fans will be extremely disappointed that the home-grown striker has joined the ranks of the Buccaneers, as he was seen to be part of the 'young gun' brigade for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. One can only speculate that there was a lot of behind the scenes horse trading for players – not to mention a big cash incentive to sell. Don't have the ZO app? Orlando Pirates: Six signings inbound?

As Orlando Pirates continue to plot and plan for next season, the big focus point will of course revolve largely around who will replace former coach Jose Riveiro. There are also a number of top players who have been linked with the Buccaneers in the 'incoming' column, and here we take a closer look. Sihle Nduli The experienced midfielder is set to leave Stellenbosch FC, and according to SABC Sport , Orlando Pirates have offered him a three-year deal. He is set to come in as a replacement for Miguel Timm. Kabelo Kgositsile The Buccaneers are also said to have finalised a deal with the highly-regarded attacking star, who could join the Soweto giants from Baroka FC on a five-year deal. Tshepo Mashiloane For quite some time, Pirates have been linked with another Baroka player, Tshepho Mashiloane, who could come in to effectively replace Thabiso Monyane. Yanela Mbuthuma In another big move, SABC Sport has also just reported that Pirates have concluded a deal for Richards Bay forward Yanela Mbuthuma to further bolster their attacking options Masindi Nemtajela The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Pirates, with the Buccaneers reported to have beaten arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs to secure the midfielder's signature from Marumo Gallants. Nkosikhona Ndaba He is set to be the second player from Richards Bay to join Pirates during the current transfer window, with the 22-year-old defender certainly held in high regard. Sinoxolo Kwayiba This is another deal that is apparently signed and sealed, with the Chippa United and Bafana Bafana star set for a big move to Pirates ahead of the new season. Orlando Pirates make their move for exciting PSL striker

Orlando Pirates are exploring a deal for one of the most exciting young strikers from last season's Betway Premiership season. 23-year-old Yanela Mbuthuma shone for Richards Bay in 2024-2025. A move for Mbuthuma is part of a transfer flurry from the club, which could see eight players arriving. Seven signings in the bag for Pirates Yanela Mbuthuma will challenge Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa for a striking role. He got five goals and two assists in 24 league appearances last term for Richards Bay. Why is nobody talking about Monnapule Saleng? It's strange to see spectacular footballers fall into relative obscurity. That's what's happened to Monnapule Saleng at Orlando Pirates. Did we perhaps overrate the occasionally brilliant winger because he can win matches on his own? Click for the story Will the Chiefs slayer return, or are his days in the PSL done? Image: @orlandopirates / X According to Goal, Monnapule Saleng's salary isn't among the very highest in the PSL. It's in the region of R70,000, or R280,000 a month. It's not shabby, but it means he's not in the top percentile of earners in South Africa. Click for the story Is Mbuthuma the right level for Orlando Pirates?
