When Simon Davis, a 38-year-old AA Patrolman from Connah's Quay, rolled into Wrexham MotorFest 2024 in a lovingly restored classic Mini, it wasn't just about his love of vintage vehicles, it was the fulfilment of a deeply personal promise. The Mini, owned by Simon's uncle, Howard Jones from Broughton, had long been a shared passion. But when Howard, who lives with Becker's Muscular Dystrophy, became too ill to continue the restoration himself, Simon stepped in. Restoration of the Mini. He said: "In 2019, I took over and vowed to complete it and in 2024, I did just that." Wrexham MotorFest, is returning this year on Saturday, July 19 at Penyllan Farm, in Marchwiel. Last year's event was the Mini's first public outing, and a milestone moment for Simon, Howard, and Simon's young son, Alfie. I said straight away, 'I'm going!'. "The mix of classic vehicles and supporting a local charity, how could I say no?" With thousands in attendance, the event was a huge success, and for Simon, it was the perfect way to celebrate years of dedication. The restored Mini at MotorFest 2024. Talking about his experience attending Wrexham MotorFest, Simon said: "The rain held off, Alfie and I enjoyed the rides and stalls, and even had a go in a Monster Truck. But the highlight was showing my uncle's Mini for the very first time. "Speaking to people who appreciated the work that had gone into it and hearing their own stories was brilliant. "Alfie loved it too, he's asked to ride in the Mini loads since!" Wrexham MotorFest is sponsored by Bellis Haulage and C & M Transport, will again transform Penyllan Farm into a spectacular celebration of motoring heritage and community spirit. Mark Goodfellow's father Neil died from lung cancer in 2011, and now Mark has raised £100 for the charity by finishing the Wrexham 10k Since late 2024, Mark, from The Mount, has also been volunteering at the charity's shop at on Priory Street, where he is popular with customers and staff. Read more: Vintage bridal boutique opens in Wrexham in aid of animal shelter in crisis He said: "I decided to attempt the Wrexham 10k after seeing a leaflet in the shop - I used to walk long distances a lot in the past and I said to myself I'd run down the hills and walk up them. "I was sponsored by a few people - including customers from the shop, my uncle and cousin and my friends also sponsored me, as well as Jamie and Ruth who work with me at Cancer Research Wales." "I felt very proud about what I'd done, and I actually got a medal, so now I can say 'I've been there and done that'. It was a great sense of achievement, and I surprised myself that I was able to do it. I could have gone further, but I don't think I'd like to do the London Marathon." People often come and talk to me at the shop about their experiences with cancer and I try and offer them a listening ear and help when I can." Cancer Research Wales opened its shop in Wrexham in May 2024 and sells a variety of goods including pre-loved clothing, accessories and homeware and there are opportunities to volunteer. Jamie Roberts is the manager of the shop said: "We're all very proud of Mark for what we has achieved by completing the Wrexham 10k and raising valuable funds to support our work. "Mark is a very popular with everyone at the Cancer Research Wales shop - from the customers, the staff and our other volunteers - we all like Mark."
