Is Rey Mysterio finally returning to WWE after his WrestleMania setback?
Rey Mysterio (Image via Getty Images) Rey Mysterio fans finally have something to look forward to. The WWE legend, who missed WrestleMania 41 due to an unexpected injury, is now on track to return very soon. After months of recovery and plenty of questions about when he would be back, the latest reports confirm that the Master of the 619 is almost ready to step back into the ring. He was set for a big match at WrestleMania against El Grande Americano, but just 24 hours before the event, everything changed. Mysterio was pulled from the card after getting hurt during a tag match on SmackDown, leaving fans disappointed and worried. Now, with a return date in sight, hope is back. What happened before WrestleMania Just one night before WrestleMania 41, Mysterio teamed with Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix on SmackDown to take on American Made. While their team picked up the win, things did not go smoothly for Rey. He ended up suffering a torn groin and also revealed later that he had a burst eardrum from the same match. The groin injury needed surgery, which ruled him out of WrestleMania completely. Mysterio wanted to go through with the match anyway, but WWE doctors and officials didn't clear him. Rey Fenix was chosen to fill his spot and face El Grande Americano instead. It was not the outcome anyone wanted, especially Rey, but his health came first. Rey Fenix, Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee battle American Made: SmackDown highlights, April 18, 2025 According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey Mysterio's return is currently expected in August. Earlier reports also mentioned a post-SummerSlam comeback, which lines up with this timeline. Since April, Mysterio has been off TV, focusing on recovery and resting after surgery. His last match was that April 18 SmackDown appearance, the one that unfortunately led to his injury. Rey Mysterio speaks on his character and WWE appearance Even though he has been sidelined, Mysterio still made an appearance at WWE x AAA Worlds Collide, where he kicked off the show with a passionate promo. Not everyone agreed with what he had to say, though. During that event, he said, 'WWE's deal with the Mexican promotion had given Lucha Libre a seal of authenticity.' The comment stirred some debate, with mixed reactions coming from fans and wrestling insiders. Rey Mysterio comments on potential heel turn, if WWE fans would accept it In a separate interview, Mysterio was asked whether he would ever turn heel in WWE. His answer was clear: probably not. He said, 'It would be very difficult' for him to ever become a villain. Mysterio explained that his calm personality and years of playing a baby face would make the change hard to accept for fans. As August gets closer, the excitement is building. Rey Mysterio has always been a fan favorite, and after missing such a big moment at WrestleMania, many are eager to see him make a strong comeback. Report: Reason Jey Uso Dropped The Title Back To Gunther Revealed
After a 51-day reign as World Heavyweight Champion, Jey Uso dropped the title back to Gunther earlier this week on WWE RAW. The title change came as a shock to many, as Uso has been one of WWE's top merchandise movers for quite some time. So why was the decision made to flip the title back to The Ring General? Advertisement According to Dave Meltzer in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H made the call to take the title off Jey Uso so Gunther's match with Goldberg next month at Saturday Night's Main Event can be for the title. On the surface, this seems like a terrible decision as it erases a lot of doubt as to who will win the match next month in Atlanta. Without a title on the line, you could debate who would walk out with the victory. However, the match being for a title allows you to know Goldberg is going out with a loss. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more on Goldberg's upcoming match with Gunther as it becomes available. "That's where this is going": Dave Meltzer doesn't hold back on the future of WWE
Dave Meltzer (Image via YouTube) Dave Meltzer is a renowned name in the world of wrestling, having been associated with it for decades. The sports historian and wrestling journalist has been the publisher and editor of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, known to everyone as WON, since 1983, and has made his reputation into something revered, especially in the world of sports journalism. So when he shares his opinion, it's bound to have listeners. And his latest take on how advertising is taking over wrestling is one of those. Dave Meltzer's take on advertising in WWE Dave Meltzer says it like he sees it. He has not been called "the most accomplished reporter in sports journalism" just because he can cover a story well. He has been in this industry for long enough to know when and how things begin to make an impact. And recently, he spoke of how advertising is becoming a big part of WWE , maybe more than it should. A recent post on his dirtsheet read: 'I expect ads on ring gear soon. Seriously. That's not a joke. That's where this is going. There's no limit to it. If there's a blank space on screen, TKO wants to monetize it.' With the way TKO Holdings has been monetizing the WWE is something quite a few people have spoken about. The parent company that runs the WWE is profit-minded like any other, and advertisements have been a big part of that. Maybe Meltzer's view is not too far off, as they have already been using ads on the ring and the screens. Maybe ring gears are next; who knows! Fans react to Dave Meltzer's latest take Fans are, of course, quick to make memes and add funny anecdotes to anything that happens. The Internet did its thing this time around as well, and as soon as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter post went online, WWE fans made sure to share their thoughts on the matter. From people saying it's just the way of the corporate, to some criticizing TKO, everyone had a cent to add to the conversation. While the chicken wing Dom idea is funny, is this really where wrestling is moving towards? What do the fans really have to say about this? Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill. Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. Rumors for the Day: Regarding Seth Rollins replacing CM Punk in a promotional video for WWE Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims it 'wasn't a significant change or anything.' Bronson Reed joining Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Paul Heyman's faction was a late decision, per Fightful, as original plans didn't include anyone else joining the group. Fightful Select has confirmed Chelsea Green's broken nose is legitimate. The Daily Update says they don't expect her off TV at all, however, as it was a 'clean break.' They also say Liv Morgan is being factored into creative plans for Raw already and she could be back as soon as this week's show. The WON says there was talk of using 'JC Matanza' for Jeff Cobb's new name in WWE as an inside reference to Lucha Underground but he apparently didn't like the name so they went with JC Mateo instead. The Observer says Ace Austin, whose TNA contract is expiring, was offered a new deal but turned it down to 'get into a larger company.'
