Tip leads to arrest of suspect in fatal pedestrian hit and run near Wetaskiwin: RCMP
Wetaskiwin RCMP has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit and run of a 50-year-old woman last month.
In a news release Thursday, police said a tip from the public helped identify a potential suspect involved in the crime.
The incident occurred on May 1, when RCMP responded to a report of a fatal pedestrian hit and run around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 13, about three kilometres west of Wetaskiwin, Alta.
The deceased was confirmed to be a 50-year-old woman from the Montana First Nation, about 110 kilometres south of Edmonton.
A week after the incident, RCMP released an image of a white Chevy Silverado that it said was suspected to have been involved in the crime and asked for public assistance in locating the vehicle.
Police said the photo of the truck resulted in a tip that allowed them to arrest a suspect on May 29.
In the new release, RCMP said the suspect has been charged with failure to stop after accident resulting in death and has been released with a court date set for Aug. 5.
