Eight jailed after 'ferocious attack' in Walsall left five hurt
Eight men who launched a "ferocious attack" on five victims that involved a gun being discharged into their car after it had been rammed by two vehicles, have been targeted, violent attack in Walsall left the victims with "serious, life-altering" had been sitting in the car in Reedswood Lane, Birchills, late on 31 July, when their vehicle was "aggressively rammed" by the cars, West Midlands Police said. Seven men had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, the force said the attack had been captured on CCTV and they still wanted to trace another man, Amar Khan, 40, who was also said to go by the name Adam Barzini, in connection with the case. The men jailed are: Amar Shazad, 37, from Victor Street, was jailed for 17 yearsHezar Iyaiz, 20, from Alumwell Road, jailed for 17 yearsMohammed Sajid, 38, from Exeter Place, was jailed for 16 yearsKamran Moore, 22, from Deepmore Avenue, was jailed for 16 yearsShazad Mahmood, 34, from Drayton Street, was jailed for 17 yearsKhurum Sajad, 23, from Hucker Road, was jailed for 16 yearsWaheed Ayub, 28, from Westbourne Street, was jailed for 17 yearsUmar Saddique, 29, was also sentenced at the same court to two years in jail for assisting an offender After the attack, the victims managed to drive to Walsall Manor Hospital, where they were found with "severe injuries", including slash and gunshot wounds, police force added that their injuries had required multiple operations and one man had been placed in an induced coma. Det Insp Francis Nock said: "The men have been told they will serve 118 years in prison in total. "This sends out a clear message that we won't tolerate people who use weapons on our streets and are prepared to carry out such violence as was displayed in this case." Married couple jailed over Kings Norton stepmother attack
A young married couple have been jailed for attempting to kill the husband's stepmother in an attack that saw them wearing animal masks as they stabbed her and hit her with a Hussain, 21, and Nabela Tabassum, 19, wore giraffe masks during the "frenzied attack" at the woman's home in Kings Norton on 29 January 2024, West Midlands Police then fled the city, however they were tracked down and arrested in Bolton the following husband and wife who denied the charge during a trial, were found guilty of attempted murder in March and were jailed for 15 years and nine years respectively at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday. Bromsgrove residents to be consulted on green belt homes plan
People living in a rural part of the West Midlands are to be invited to take part in a consultation on plans to build thousands of new homes in the District Council voted on Thursday evening to send its Draft Development Strategy, which details plans for 9,000 homes by 2043, out to public authority has to increase its housing provision and create the associated infrastructure in order to meet government consultation will open on 30 June and run for 12 weeks. With about 90% of Bromsgrove designated green belt land, the plans have proved a third of the homes would be built in Frankley, another 2,500 in the town of Bromsgrove itself, and more than 1,200 in hundred would also be built in Alvechurch, Barnt Green, Catshill, Hagley and Stoke Prior. "This consultation is to check the long-term strategy is on the right track," said Kit Taylor, the council's cabinet member for planning."As part of our duty to plan for these government-imposed future housebuilding targets, we are ensuring residents have this early and specially extended 12-week chance to say what they think the planning issues are, in an open and transparent way."Opposition councillors on the Conservative-Independent-run authority had suggested residents should have been presented with a range of potential approaches to the building programme."This is the first sketch of what a plan could look like, drafted from the [more than] 400 sites for building suggested by developers," Taylor said."It's the start of a plan to keep our destiny in our own hands and in ways that we would want - not decided by developers and central government officials." Residents will be able to take part in the consultation on the Bromsgrove District Local Plan's website from next council said in-person events across the district would be announced in the near future. Two arrests after gunshots fired at Birmingham property
Two people have been detained by police after gunshots were fired at a property in Birmingham. A 50-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life, said police. Emergency services were called to School Road, Billesley, at 01:30 BST on Midlands Police said its Major Crime Unit carried out an immediate investigation and inquiries were still ongoing. A cordon was put in place to allow forensic investigations, the force added. It said no one was hurt during the incident and inquiries were still being carried out, including a review of CCTV footage from around the area. The force said: "We know that incidents like this can be alarming, and our officers will remain in the area today to offer reassurance - please speak to them if you have any concerns." Rail system 'could transform public transport'
A light rail system currently being developed in Coventry could transform public transport in the future, officials claimed. Coventry's Very Light Rail (VLR) system has been described by the city council as like a tram but more flexible and affordable as well as being an alternative to cars. A 220m (241yd) test track has been giving free rides for the past month and West Midlands mayor Richard Parker said the trial showed the system could "revolutionise" public transport worldwide. Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood saw the VLR on a visit and said it could "drive growth, create high-skilled jobs and breathe new life" into towns and cities. Parker said it could "revolutionise public transport for millions worldwide".
