Welcome to Wrexham, that'll be US$475 million please. Hollywood pair looking to cash in

Wrexham AFC, the Welsh football club co-owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are reportedly looking to sell a stake in the team that would set the franchise's valuation at US$475 million. Sources said the club was looking for an investor to join the Hollywood stars, who bought Wrexham for US$2.5 million in late 2020. Since then, the team have become the subject of a popular documentary series on FX – Welcome to Wrexham – and have earned promotion through England's system for a record three straight years. Internal talks were focused on how to raise capital to help Wrexham compete in the Championship next season, one step below the Premier League, with the latter arguably the top football league in the world. The projected value would represent a nearly 19,000 per cent jump in the team's worth in less than five years. Rob McElhenney (left) and Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham in late 2020. Eva is also one of the key investors in the Los Angeles Angels women's team along with Serena Williams, and Christina Aguilera. Wrexham Association Football Club, which is based in Wrexham, Wales, formed in 1864, earning it the distinction of being the oldest club in Wales, and the third-oldest professional association football team in the world. The club compete in EFL League One, the third level of the English football league system. Ryan and Rob bought Wrexham AFC through their RR McReynolds Company LLC in November 2020. The duo's company would go on to receive the backing of 98.6% of the 2,000 members of the Wrexham Supporters Trust that voted, completely the deal in February 2021. Last month, Ryan told Wrexham fans he plans a long stay with the club as the celebrations continue following their unprecedented triple consecutive promotion. The Welsh side sealed a stunning return to the second tier for the first time since 1982 with a thumping 3-0 victory over Charlton. Jubilant fans stormed the pitch when promotion was confirmed as players celebrated alongside Hollywood duo and co-owners Ryan and Rob, with Blake Lively also jetting in to enjoy the scenes. The Red Dragons were languishing in the fifth tier of English football after relegation from the Football League in 2008 and nearly went out of business. But the club has been transformed since the takeoever by the pair of actors in 2021. They have overseen a move from from non-league to within reach of the Premier League amid huge publicity partly driven by the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham. Reflecting on their meteoric rise, the Deadpool actor described his ownership as the 'greatest four years' of his life and said he would remain for 'many more' years. In a gushing X post, he wrote: 'This club is the sum of its supporters. Before we showed up they'd saved it multiple times. It's a temple as much as a football pitch. 'Wrexham has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. It's hard to avoid immediately starting work on next season - but important to take the moment in… 'Looking back and looking forward feels really good right now. I think I speak for Rob McElhenney when I say, thank you for the greatest four years and here's to many more.' The post was accompanied with a video from an Ed Sheeran concert, with a montage of Wrexham fans flooding the pitch. Ed, who owns a minority stake in Ipswich, is heard saying: 'Ryan, I think Wrexham are going to get promoted and we're going to see each other next season.' Ryan said Wrexham made 'history' despite people doubting him and Rob thinking their dreams of being in the Premier League could be possible.

The FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham , which follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny's ownership of Welsh soccer team Wrexham AFC, has been renewed for a fifth season. FX has also set a summer premiere for Necaxa , a new docuseries from the Welcome to Wrexham producers. Once a powerhouse in Mexican football, Club Necaxa has spent decades navigating instability including relocations, relegation battles and near-constant reinvention. Though its legacy has flickered in and out of the national spotlight, a passionate core of diehard supporters continues to believe, clinging to the dream that their beloved 'Rayos' will one day rise again.' Season 5 of Welcome to Wrexham will follow the club's upcoming debut in the EFL Championship after its third consecutive promotion.
