Telangana student held in Hyderabad after US deports him for forged visa
A 28-year-old student from Telangana's Nalgonda district was arrested in Hyderabad following his deportation from the United States for allegedly using forged documents to secure a student visa, the police said on Wednesday. The student, who had been pursuing a master's degree at Webster University in Missouri, the USA, was taken into custody on June 1 after immigration authorities at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport in Shamshabad conducted an inquiry upon his arrival from stated that he confessed to obtaining a United States visa in September 2023 using fraudulent Computer Science certificates. His deportation occurred in the last week of May when United States immigration officers at Dallas airport discovered that his SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) status was inactive. Authorities have also arrested the managing director of an overseas education consultancy firm on June 2 for allegedly supplying the forged degree certificates. During a search at the firm's office, police seized several documents, including university certificates and Rs 10 lakh in cash. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Shamshabad Division) V Sreekanth Goud said, 'The student had studied for one year in the US and came to India and stayed for five months. A 28-year-old student from Nalgonda district was arrested in Hyderabad after being deported from the United States (U.S.) for allegedly using forged documents to obtain a student visa. The student, identified as Gopal Reddy, had been pursuing a master's degree at Webster University in Missouri. He was detained by immigration officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad on Sunday (June 1, 2025) after his arrival from Dallas, where U.S. authorities had denied him re-entry. Shamshabad assistant commissioner of police (ACP) V. Sreekanth Goud said that the student's SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) status was found to be inactive when he landed in Dallas, prompting his deportation and an enquiry by the immigration authorities in RGIA. During questioning, Reddy confessed that he had secured his U.S. visa using forged Computer Science degree certificates. Following his statement, a complaint was lodged with the local police, who arrested him on Monday (June 2, 2025). The same day, RGIA police also arrested 29-year-old K. Ashok, the managing director of Dhanalaxmi Overseas, a consultancy firm based in B.N. Reddy Nagar, for allegedly providing the fake certificates. A search at the firm's premises led to the seizure of 17 counterfeit certificates from various universities and ₹10 lakh in cash. 'Gopal Reddy had studied for one year in the U.S. and returned to India for five months. When he tried to re-enter the U.S., immigration officers found that his student visa status was inactive and deported him,' said the ACP. During interrogation, Ashok admitted to having sent 15 students abroad over the past five years using forged documents to secure admissions. Police have launched further investigation to trace these students and identify others involved in the racket. The two have been remanded for judicial custody.

A subsequent search at the firm's office led to the seizure of various documents, including certificates from different universities, and Rs 10 lakh in cash from the MD, who was then arrested. "During interrogation by immigration officials Reddy confessed that he went to the US on Sept 28, 2023, by obtaining a US visa using fake BSc Computers certificates from Madurai Kamraj University," said V Sreekanth Goud, ACP, RGIA. He added: "Reddy said he initially stayed there for 15 months and returned home on personal work in 2024. In the last week of May, he returned to the US but was intercepted at the Dallas airport and deported to India for inactive SEVIS status. "Ashok confessed to police that since 2020 he has supplied fake degree certificates to 15 students and sent them abroad by charging between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh each," said a police official. Cops seized 150 forged mark statements, provisional certificates, and recommendation letters of Madurai Kamaraj University and Osmania University, in the name of 17 persons, along with stamps of various private companies, Rs 10 lakh cash, and four cell phones from Ashok's possession.

Trump administration restores 20 revoked visas to international students in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS — Immigration and Customs Enforcement began restoring over 1,500 visas to international students over the weekend, including 20 registrations in the St. Louis area. The Trump administration began restoring the terminated registrations after multiple recent lawsuits against the administration, including two filed recently from students across the state of Missouri. The lawsuits are one of many across the country, as over 900 students at more than 128 colleges and universities have had their visas revoked or legal status recently terminated with little to no notice, according to the Associated Press. Federal charges filed in well-known Wildwood cat-hoarding case Webster University told FOX 2 that 20 of their undergraduate students whose visas had been revoked were restored, including an additional six students at their San Antonio, Texas campus. 'We remain deeply committed to supporting our students and are continuing to monitor this evolving situation closely, working individually with students as needed,' said Tim Keane, Webster University's chancellor, in a statement to the school. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville also became aware that beginning April 4, the student visas had been revoked of three undergraduates and six former graduates enrolled in their optional practical training program.
