Barbecue season is synonymous with smoky flavours, summer gatherings, and al fresco dining. However, the struggle to ignite the charcoal can sometimes make it feel like a chore.
Well-known kitchen-tech brand Ninja, renowned for its air fryers, also produces a variety of outdoor cooking appliances, including an electric barbecue. Ninja's Woodfire Electric barbecue Grill and Smoker is marketed as an electric barbecue grill and smoker with a wide range of cooking functions. This garden gadget carries a hefty £299.99 price tag.
Nonetheless, a current £50 discount from Ninja brings it down to a slightly more affordable £249.99.
The device is operated via the dial and buttons on the front, making it simple to preheat and cook foods to precise specifications.
Chris Hall, a writer, reviewed the Woodfire Electric barbecue Grill and Smoker for Chronicle Live, and he was "blown away by the experience".
Chris added: "Unlike traditional charcoal BBQs, lighting the Woodfire is a breeze, meaning you'll be ready to cook in roughly 15 minutes. The smart feature – and the one that gives the Woodfire its name – is a hopper on the side of the lid where you can add flavoured wood pellets.

"These will ignite and burn, with the smoke being drawn into the Ninja and circulated with your food. This adds a great aroma, it adds flavour, and it adds a little excitement to your outdoor cooking. Yes, it's not like a charcoal BBQ, but it's closer than a normal electric barbecue."
Chris points out that the gadget's size could be an issue, stating: "If there's a downside to the Ninja Woodfire, it's the size of the grill. You'll just about feed a family of four using it, but if you're planning a barbecue in your garden, then you can only cook about 16 sausages at a time, so for a large gathering, you might need something bigger."
There are other options for outdoor cooking devices on the market. For instance, this Weber Bar-B-Kettle is available for the mid-range price of £120 at Argos.
The coal-based grill features a porcelain-enamelled bowl, and the lid retains heat for consistent and even cooking.
Meanwhile, this Electric barbecue (£200) is new-in at B&Q. It's designed with instant ignition for quick start-up and precise temperature control to take the guessing work out of cooking times. For the latest restaurant news and reviews, sign up to our food and drink newsletter here
The Ninja Woodfire is a culinary game-changer with its dual heating elements, one at the bottom and another on the lid, allowing it to cook from both sides. It boasts a fan in the lid that not only circulates heat like an air fryer but also infuses food with a smoky barbecue flavour.
The device features a griddle plate at its base, perfect for searing steaks or burgers without open flames.
Chris said: "There's a model with a stand, but I've just been using it on my garden table), so getting started takes no time at all."
It arrives mostly assembled and includes a recipe book that guides cooks through various settings for different foods, including ribs, wings, and veggies, and explains how to utilise the Woodfire's multiple functions.
For those who love smoked dishes, the Ninja Woodfire doubles as a smoker using wood pellets, with two packets provided complimentary. It's versatile enough to roast a whole chicken, bake, dehydrate, or reheat meals.
