Samsung is likely to launch its first Android XR headset soon and here is everything we know about it

Samsung's first Android XR headset might finally be close to its official debut. After months of appearances at different events, leaks and teaser videos, a new report out of South Korea suggests that Samsung will unveil the headset — currently codenamed Project Moohan — on September 29 in its home country. If this report is accurate, the headset will go on sale in South Korea on October 13, with a global rollout expected to follow soon after. Of course, Samsung hasn't confirmed any of this just will be Samsung's first Extended Reality (XR) headset, and it's being developed in partnership with Google. The headset will run Android XR, a version of Android built specifically for mixed-reality devices. Android XR is the result of a joint effort between Samsung and Google, much like their collaboration on recent versions of Wear OS for smartwatches. The new platform is also expected to come with built-in Gemini AI, giving users access to smart tools and contextual information right inside their headset. For example, imagine using Google Maps in a 3D interface or receiving AI-generated assistance while navigating or working in the hood, the headset will be powered by Qualcomm's XR2+ Gen 2 chip, which is reportedly built on Samsung's own 4nm process. This should help deliver smooth performance along with balanced power efficiency, both of which are key for wearable Even though it hasn't launched yet, the headset has been seen in public a few times. Samsung showed off early prototypes earlier this year at MWC 2024 and the Galaxy S25 launch, and is expected to tease it once again during its July Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip for features, the device is said to support both mixed reality and full virtual reality experiences. Samsung is reportedly focusing on making the headset lightweight and comfortable, though specific design details remain unknown. Rumours also hint at a sleek form factor that's more user-friendly than bulkier course, all of this comes as competition in the XR space grows. Apple's Vision Pro has already made the headlines with its high-end approach, but it also raised eyebrows for its price and bulky design. Samsung may be aiming to strike a better balance, offering top-tier performance and a good user experience, but at a more accessible price said, nothing is set in stone until Samsung makes it official. But if the latest reports are accurate, we might not have to wait long to see what Project Moohan is really all tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on Samsung's upcoming Android XR headset.

Gmail starts testing Material 3 Expressive redesign on Wear OS

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority TL;DR Google has started testing the Material 3 Expressive redesign for its Wear OS apps. The updated Gmail app for Wear OS has started rolling out to some users, bringing a few interface changes. After giving us an early look at the Material 3 Expressive design changes coming to Wear OS last month, Google has started updating its Wear OS apps with expressive design elements. We recently gave you an early look at the revamped Google Keep app for Wear OS. Now, Google has started rolling out the updated Gmail app with expressive design elements to some users. The Material 3 Expressive redesign is live for some users in version 2025.05.19.760532898 of the Gmail app for Wear OS, but it's not widely available yet. It brings changes for some UI elements, including updated button and card backgrounds that likely follow Wear OS 6's new dynamic theming system. As shown in the following screenshots, the 'Mark as unread,' 'Reply,' and 'Open on phone' buttons have been rearranged and now feature new background colors. Updated buttons The 'Mark as unread' button has a brighter background instead of a dull gray, and this change also applies to the archive, delete, and star buttons. Although the 'Reply' button is still gray, it's slightly larger than before. The 'Open on phone' button is now green and has a new arc shape that hugs the bottom of the display — a hallmark of Google's Material 3 Expressive makeover for Wear OS. New background colors Google has also updated the button and card backgrounds in other sections of the app and made the UI elements slightly larger, but these changes are much more subtle. The company could make further improvements before the Gmail redesign is available widely, and we'll update this post as soon as we have more details. Here's an early look at Google Keep's Material 3 Expressive design on Wear OS

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Google is prepping Material 3 Expressive design changes for the Wear OS version of Google Keep. We've spotted the changes in the latest build on the OnePlus Watch 2R running Wear OS 4. It includes redesigned buttons and note cards, a new animation, and an updated checklist interface. Like Android, Wear OS will receive several visual changes based on Google's new Material 3 Expressive design language. We've already seen some of the system-level interface improvements in the first Wear OS 6 Developer Preview build. We now have an early look at the visual upgrades coming to the Google Keep app for Wear OS. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. Discover You're reading anstory on Android Authority. Discover Authority Insights for more exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage you won't find anywhere else. We've spotted the Material 3 Expressive design changes in the latest Google Keep release for Wear OS (version 5.25.232.01). As you can see in the attached screenshots, the revamped app has a larger '+' button on the home page and a new design for the notes cards. Instead of showing images in the background of a note, the redesigned cards have a carousel for the photos. The 'Add reminder,' 'Pin,' and 'Archive' buttons are no longer stacked vertically and don't feature any labels. They're arranged in a single row and feature a new expanding animation when you select them. The scroll bar to the right is slightly thicker, giving users a bigger touch target for more effortless scrolling. Lastly, notes with checklists have a slightly updated UI. When you check all the items in the list, you get a new expressive 'All done!' animation at the bottom and a smaller 'Uncheck all' button with no label. This refreshed Google Keep UI is live for us on the OnePlus Watch 2R running Wear OS 4, confirming that Google will extend the Material 3 Expressive changes to older Wear OS releases. However, it's not available widely at the moment, but we expect Google to roll it out to more users in the coming days. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Fresh renders of OnePlus Watch 3 hint at compact design and shorter endurance

OnePlus has confirmed that the Watch 3 is arriving soon, but a new report hints that the smaller version might come with a noticeable tradeoff. According to a leak that comes complete with renders, a spec sheet is also included which reveals that the upcoming 43mm OnePlus Watch 3 will offer significantly less battery life than its 47mm counterpart. While the 47mm version is expected to provide up to 100 hours of battery life, the 43mm model reportedly drops that number to around 72 hours. That's a difference of more than a full day, and while not surprising given the reduction in size, it's still worth highlighting for those deciding between the two variants. This smaller version is said to come with a 1.32-inch AMOLED display running at 466 x 466 resolution. Like the larger version, it will reportedly feature a hybrid software approach with Wear OS and RTOS (real-time operating system), which can help optimize power use when smart features aren't needed constantly. Still, even with software efficiencies in place, the smaller 345mAh battery doesn't seem to match the performance of the larger one. Leaked renders of the OnePlus Watch 3 43mm variant. | Images credit — Android Headlines It's not yet clear whether the listed battery durations are based solely on Wear OS usage, RTOS, or a mix of both. But if accurate, the 28-hour difference between the two models could be an important factor for users who prioritize longer endurance. Historically, this kind of tradeoff is not uncommon. Other Wear OS smartwatches like the Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch series have also shown similar behavior: the more compact the design, the less time between charges. That's largely due to smaller batteries and less room for thermal management. OnePlus is expected to fully unveil the Watch 3 lineup during its July 8 event, alongside other upcoming products including the Nord Buds 4, OnePlus Pad 2, and Nord 5 series. While we wait for official specs, the reported 43mm Watch 3 battery life already signals that users may have to choose between comfort and performance. If OnePlus can further optimize its software to extend battery life despite the smaller size, I believe that could set the Watch 3 apart from competing devices. Otherwise, the 43mm version may follow a familiar trend: slimmer profile, shorter lifespan.

Hall-of-Fame leaker disseminates images of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 line

Last month we passed along renders of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic showing off a squircle design similar to last year's Galaxy Watch Ultra model. Today, famed leaker Evan Blass posted images showing the design of the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra (2025). All three timepieces seem to share a common look with each model featuring a squircle design. To accommodate the squircle design and a rotating bezel, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will feature thicker bezels than the other watches in the series. According to Blass, the three watches in the line will be named the Galaxy Watch 8 , Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025). The trio should be unveiled next month during the company's next Unpacked event which will include Sammy's new foldables for 2025. Image of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8. | Image credit-Evan Blass The Galaxy Watch series for 2025 will be running One UI 8 Watch and the first beta release was pushed out this week. The One UI 8 Watch interface includes Wear OS 6 which will supposedly include better battery life, the new Material 3 Expressive design language, and a more modern look that flows better. It also will include dynamic color theming which takes the dominant color from your selected watch face and uses it to create colored accents that match throughout the timepiece's interface. Image of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. | Image credit-Evan Blass You might think that little extras like this will run through the Galaxy Watch 8 model's battery life as though it were the last couple of slices of rare roast beef at a carnivore convention. But Samsung says that there will be a 10% improvement in battery life from Wear OS 5 to Wear OS 6. Image of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra (2025). | Image credit-Evan Blass Samsung currently owns a 9% share of the global smartwatch market according to Counterpoint Research. Those results put the South Korean manufacturer in third place worldwide after Apple and Huawei. The summer's Unpacked event is rumored to take place on July 13th in New York City. Last year's event was held on July 10th so the rumor mill might be right. There was a prototype Galaxy Watch 8 Classic already posted for sale on eBay. Model number SM-L505U features 64GB of internal storage with LTE support and a 46mm case. It was priced at $150 and was not sold.
