'F1' world premiere streams live tonight. How to watch the racing film with Daytona scenes
The "F1 The Movie" World Premiere will be livestreamed Monday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m., from New York City, allowing fans to follow along as the "F1" cast including Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and real F1 drivers hit the red carpet. Fans can stream the premiere on the official Warner Brothers YouTube channel, the official Formula One YouTube channel or on F1's various social media platforms. The movie, which reportedly filmed scenes at the Daytona International Speedway and a restaurant in New Smyrna Beach, officially releases in theatres on Friday, June 27. 'F1' was filmed in a lot of places around the world. According to IMDb, there were filming locations in Hungary, the UK, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Abu Dhabi, Belgium, Japan, Las Vegas, Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. The Florida scenes of the movie were filmed at the Daytona International Speedway and at Pappas Drive-In & Family Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach. Shortly after scenes for 'F1' were filmed there last January. Pappas was destroyed by an overnight fire weeks after the filming, in March 2024. Some of the scenes in the 'F1' movie were filmed at real Formula One racing events, like the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. According to USA TODAY, Pitt and his real-life girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, were spotted July 5, 2024, walking in the paddock during the F1 event at Silverstone Circuit in Northampton, England. In the movie, Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who returns to the race track to team up with a rookie and elevate their F1 team. Other stars in the movie include 'No Country for Old Men' and 'Skyfall' star Javier Bardem, 'Outlander' star Tobias Menzies, 'The Banshees of Inisherin' star Kerry Condon and more. According to ScreenRant, Pitt is actually behind the wheel in this movie, but the cars he drives are not true Formula One race cars. 'The cars featured are not actual Formula One cars, but cleverly modified F2 cars (via GQ Magazine),' ScreenRant says. 'These cars are equipped with an F1 nose, side pods, and rear wings, meticulously designed by Mercedes and having passed all mandatory crash tests to ensure safety.' Buster Murdaugh gets first victory in defamation case against Warner Bros. over murder documentary
Buster Murdaugh was handed his first win in court as a judge ruled his defamation case against Warner Brothers could proceed. The only surviving son of disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh - who is serving two life sentences for murdering his wife and youngest son in 2021 - claimed the production company implied that he 'murdered a 19-year-old Hampton County man named Stephen Smith.' Details of Smith's death along with rumors of links to the Murdaugh family were broadcast in a documentary detailing the downfall of the once prominent legal dynasty. The 28-year-old has never been accused of, or faced charges relating to, Smith's death. In 2023, he publicly denied involvement in the tragedy and shut down persistent rumors the pair had been romantically linked. Smith was a classmate of Buster and was found dead on a rural road in the summer of 2015. An autopsy determined he was fatally struck in a hit-and-run. Former South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Condon told Fox News that the basis of the lawsuit is 'something called defamation by implication. 'There were rumors … Buster Murdaugh was somehow involved in his death. They would take interviews of people living in that area that would, in effect, repeat these rumors about Buster Murdaugh being involved in this murder. 'The lawsuit claims that they just simply aired these interviews of rumors … and would juxtapose those interviews with actual law enforcement documents and related information.' Condon said he does believe Buster's reputation was 'severely damaged by the reporting that went on.' Warner Brothers had attempted to have the defamation suit dismissed, but a judge ruled it could proceed. In the lawsuit, Buster noted the 'defamatory and false' insinuations made in the documentary were 'published to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of viewers who watched the show, including viewers in South Carolina.' He said by airing details of Smith's death in a documentary about his father's crimes, the showrunners implied he, too, had 'committed a crime or moral turpitude.' In 2016, a year after her son's death, Smith's mother Sandy wrote a letter to the FBI stating that she believed the Murdaughs were somehow involved. 'The first call my family received after the murder was from authorities notifying us of Stephen's death,' she wrote. 'The second came very quickly the same morning from Solicitor Randolph Murdaugh.' Sandy claimed to CBS authorities initially told her her son had been shot, but that within hours they said it was actually a hit-and-run. There was no evidence of vehicle debris, skid marks or injuries consistent with someone being hit by a car and they were convinced that the victim had a gunshot wound above his right eye, according to the original incident report. Sandy feared her son had been the victim of a hate crime. Rumors swirled in the small town that Buster may have been romantically linked to Smith prior to his death, but these claims were never substantiated and Buster himself vehemently denied them. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division launched a homicide investigation into Smith's death almost two weeks after Alex Murdaugh shot his wife Maggie and son, Paul in June 2021. He was convicted over the killings in 2023 and is serving two consecutive life terms without possibility of parole. Smith's family raised more than $60,000 after Alex's conviction to have his body exhumed for a private autopsy. Murdaugh, a high-profile attorney in South Carolina's Low Country, called 911 to report that he had found the bodies of his wife and son on their sprawling Moselle estate in rural Colleton County. Police arrived to find Maggie and Paul shot dead. Investigators determined that two firearms had been used. Although Murdaugh initially denied involvement, officers soon began to unravel a web of financial mismanagement, embezzlement, fraud and drug abuse. Three months later, Murdaugh - while under suspension for the alleged murders - was shot in the head as he changed a tire on his black Mercedes-Benz SUV. Authorities soon alleged that he had arranged the shooting himself by hiring distant relative Curtis Edward Smith in a failed suicide-for-hire plot so that Buster could receive a $10 million life insurance payout. Murdaugh was ultimately also convicted of dozens of financial crimes ranging from embezzlement to money laundering. In addition to his life sentences, Murdaugh was sentenced in federal court in April 2024 to 40 years for financial crimes involving millions stolen from clients and colleagues - a sentence that was to run concurrently with his state prison terms. A source close to Buster recently told that, though he believes his father to be innocent of the murders, he is 'really angry' at the sweeping financial crimes that Murdaugh was subsequently convicted of. 'He's living his life but he doesn't really have too much going on,' a member of his inner circle said. 'He's pretty directionless, but he's figuring it out.' But last month Buster married his long-term girlfrien d Brooklynn White, 29, in an extravagant ceremony surrounded by family and friends. The couple chose the exclusive Coosaw Point - a luxury riverside community - for their nuptials, where a 50-person wedding will set a couple back around $26,000 for the venue costs alone.

The entertainment giant will break itself into two publicly traded companies in 'Streaming & Studios' and 'Global Networks'. The shift, designed to enable each venture to 'maximise its potential,' is expected to be completed by mid-2026, the company said. The move, which reallocates assets such as HBO Max and CNN, is the latest reflection of how streaming is remaking a media business in which Warner Brothers Discovery and other legacy players traditionally garnered considerable revenues from 'bundled' cable products that many consumers are now eschewing in favour of a la carte streaming purchases. Streaming & Studios will include the libraries of HBO and Warner Brothers, studio production facilities in California and Britain and tours and experiences. The venture will focus on growing HBO Max, now in 77 markets, said the company's press release. Global Networks will house Discovery, as well as CNN and TNT Sports, which are known for coverage of live events. Assets in this group currently reach 1.1 billion viewers across 200 countries and territories. Warner Brothers Discovery CEO David Zaslav will serve as chief of streaming, while Warner Brothers Discovery chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels will lead global networks. 'By operating as two distinct and optimized companies in the future, we are empowering these iconic brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today's evolving media landscape,' Zaslav said. Shares of Warner Brothers Discovery surged 10.3% in morning trading.

LOS ANGELES — The exodus of movie and television production from California has brought together an unlikely duo working to stem the tide: California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Jon Voight, the actor-turned-show biz emissary for President Donald Trump. The pair met privately Thursday afternoon in Century City, the sleek Los Angeles business district, to discuss their shared interest in boosting the state's iconic industry, which has increasingly moved its operations to other states and overseas. They discussed Voight's proposal to reshore the American film industry through a combination of federal tax credits and tax code changes, according to a person with knowledge of the meeting granted anonymity to discuss it. They also talked about Newsom's push to double California's film tax incentive, which is currently winding its way through state budget talks. 'They shared a commitment to working together to help to build up the film industry in the U.S. — particularly California and Los Angeles,' the person said, adding that Newsom expressed interest in working with Trump on the issue. Voight, the 'Midnight Cowboy' star who Trump designated a 'special ambassador' to Hollywood, has become an increasingly visible figure in the efforts to stanch runaway production. He was joined Thursday by his business partner, Steven Karol, and producer Scott Karol, who have been meeting with studio executives, labor leaders and Trump himself at Mar-a-Lago to pitch their draft plan to rescue the industry. Voight's proposal includes harsh tariffs on producers who could have based their productions in the states but chose instead to film abroad, though tariffs were not discussed in his sit-down with Newsom, according to the person familiar with the discussion. Tariff talk has subsided in recent weeks after Trump vowed to impose a 100 percent tariff on 'any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.' The missive immediately rocked — and confused — the industry. A Newsom aide confirmed the meeting took place and said the governor, while focused on the California tax credit now, is 'open to all good ideas.' A representative for Voight also confirmed the meeting. Also present was DeeDee Myers, Newsom's chief economic adviser and director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. Myers, a former executive at Warner Brothers, has been a key player in the effort to double California's film tax credit and overhaul the program to make filming in California more enticing. Local production has shriveled in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, two paralyzing industry strikes and more aggressive incentives from other jurisdictions. Newsom's office reaffirmed Thursday that the tax credit expansion was a top priority for next year's budget, which is entering its final negotiations before the June 15 deadline. 'The Governor is fully committed to this proposed $750 million investment in California's film and television industry, which will protect good-paying jobs and support the workers who power the state's creative economy,' said Tara Gallegos, a spokesperson for the governor.'
