Walmart has announced when it will restock the Nintendo Switch 2
If you've been searching desperately for the Nintendo Switch 2, it's time to mark your calendars. Walmart has confirmed the exact date and time you'll be able to buy the console online, and you don't have long to wait. Since launch, the Switch 2 has been flying off the shelves. In the U.S. alone, Nintendo sold 1.1 million units during launch week, breaking the PlayStation 4's long-standing debut record. Globally, it racked up 3.5 million sales in just four days, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console of all time. It's been near-impossible to find in stock ever since. Most drops sell out within minutes, and Walmart's restock isn't likely to be any different. If you've been refreshing product pages for weeks, or are just fed up watching everyone else play, this might finally be your chance. Walmart has announced it will be restocking both the standalone Nintendo Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World bundle on Wednesday 25 June. Paid Walmart+ members will have access one hour earlier than everyone else. The early access drop kicks off at 9pm ET. While Walmart hasn't officially revealed when it'll open to the general public, it's likely to be 10pm ET, assuming any stock is left. The bundle includes the Nintendo Switch 2 and a copy of Mario Kart World.

Walmart's Push Into High-Margin Ventures: A Blueprint for Growth?
Walmart Inc. WMT is reshaping its growth strategy by doubling down on high-margin revenue streams — namely, advertising, memberships and marketplace expansion. This strategic shift is boosting profitability and reinforcing the company's leadership in the global retail landscape. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Walmart saw meaningful gains from its evolving business mix. Higher-margin categories like advertising and memberships were major contributors to profitability. The company's advertising revenues rallied 50% year over year, fueled in part by its December 2024 acquisition of VIZIO. This move brought VIZIO's SmartCast Operating System under the Walmart umbrella, enhancing Walmart Connect's ability to deliver personalized, scalable advertising solutions. Walmart Connect posted 31% growth in the United States, while Sam's Club advertising grew 21%. Internationally, ad revenues rose 20%, led by strong performance from Flipkart. Membership income also played a vital role. Overall membership fees rose nearly 15% year over year in the fiscal first quarter. Sam's Club U.S. saw solid gains in member growth, renewal rates and an increase in Plus memberships, driving a 9.6% rise in membership income. Walmart+ delivered double-digit income growth, while Sam's Club China membership income soared over 40%, driven by rising member adoption. Walmart is also scaling its third major growth pillar: marketplace and store-fulfilled delivery. This integrated ecosystem enhances operational efficiency and supports omnichannel retail engagement. By expanding these high-margin verticals, Walmart is positioning itself for sustainable earnings growth and improved shareholder value in a rapidly evolving retail environment. How WMT's Competitors Are Building New Profit Engines Some of WMT's competitors in the retail space are The Kroger Co. KR and Target TGT. The Kroger Co.'s alternative profit businesses, including retail media and health & wellness, continue to contribute to profitability. These businesses generated $1.35 billion in operating profit in fiscal 2024, supported by a 17% increase in retail media revenues. Kroger Precision Marketing ('KPM') is expanding rapidly, with increasing commitments from agencies, reinforcing its position as a high-margin growth driver. As digital engagement grows, Kroger remains focused on leveraging data-driven insights to enhance advertising effectiveness and drive sustained profitability in this segment. Target is accelerating its shift toward high-margin, non-merchandise revenue streams by scaling digital advertising and marketplace services. Roundel, Target's retail ad business, continues to benefit by driving higher engagement, performance and campaign success. Meanwhile, Target Plus — the company's third-party digital marketplace — also delivered double-digit growth in the first quarter of fiscal 2025. WMT's Price Performance, Valuation and Estimates Shares of Walmart have gained 7.9% year to date compared with the industry 's growth of 8.1%. From a valuation standpoint, WMT trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 36.09X, above the industry's average of 33.08X. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for WMT's fiscal 2026 earnings implies year-over-year growth of 3.2%, whereas its fiscal 2027 earnings estimate suggests a year-over-year uptick of 11.6%. Walmart ends popular perk for shoppers as the company braces for the impact of Trump's tariff policy
Walmart has quietly ended a key perk for low-income shoppers. Since 2020, customers using food stamps were exempt from the $6.99 fee on grocery pickup and delivery orders under $35 — a benefit introduced during the pandemic. That exemption has now ended. The fee will once again apply to smaller orders placed by Walmart+ Assist members, the retailer's discounted subscription for those enrolled in programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF. These members, who pay $6.47 a month or $49 a year, had previously enjoyed the same perks as full-price subscribers — including waived basket fees. The $6.99 charge covers the cost of selecting and packing orders and is on top of delivery fees. Walmart says the rollback is part of broader cost-cutting efforts, citing financial uncertainty caused by new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. Walmart has also asked suppliers to absorb some of the tariff-driven price increases and has made staffing changes to cut expenses. Walmart president & CEO Doug McMillon Still, the retail giant remains optimistic. Walmart ended its most recent quarter with $180.6 billion in revenue and reported $681 billion in sales for 2024. Walmart bosses say uncertainty from President Donald Trump's tariffs means they can't give Wall Street the usual forecast on sales and profits — something they haven't done since the pandemic. The company insisted it was confident in making sure they could navigate tariffs along with the fears of a recession. 'We see opportunities to accelerate share gains while maintaining flexibility to invest in price as tariffs are applied to incoming goods,' said chief finance officer John David Rainey. CEO Doug McMillon added that Walmart is closely monitoring costs: 'There are so many variables playing out in terms of what costs are going to be, where people source from. We're going to have to manage this as we always do — daily.'
