Traffic Alert: Watertown's Snell Street & Jefferson Street

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Two more streets in the City of Watertown will be undergoing a pair of work projects on Thursday. Jefferson Street will be undergoing a road work project that will close off the road between Mechanic Street and High Street. Snell Street will be closed for a sewer work project that will close the road between Morrison Street and Leray Street. Both projects were slated to begin at 8 a.m., but the roads would be re-opened by the end of the day. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes or to use caution if having to travel through both areas for the duration of the project. Watertown sees a record-high temperature

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – June 4 has become a particularly warm day in Watertown. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature hit a record-high for the second consecutive year on this date at the Watertown International Airport. This year's temperature hit a high of 88 degrees, which eclipses last year's mark of 85 degrees. The normal temperature for June 4 is 72 degrees, but temperatures are expected to drop later this week with rain returning to the area. LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – Racing roared back over the weekend after the Memorial Day holiday across the north country. Theresa native Lance Willix picked up the victory over Watertown native Billy Dunn in the 25-lap 358-modified feature. Tyler Meeks, Derek Webb and Remington Hamm rounded out the top five. Mike Fowler collected the win in the 20-lap Sportsman division feature. Frank Sibley, Ryan Shanahan, Tyler Stevenson and Josh Reome finished out the top five. Jon Liberty (602 crate sprints), Michael Greenfield (thundercar) and Eymarah Bowman (limited sportsman) were also winners on Friday, May 31. Can-Am will be back in action on Friday, June 6 with the Pit Crew Showdown. Pits open at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing beginning at 7 p.m. Evans Mills Raceway Park Rain continued to be a problem as Saturday's May 31 program was postponed. The Zeigler 67 race was pushed back until this weekend. June 6: Relay For Life at Evans Mills This weekend's scheduled card will be legends night with the pits opening at 3 p.m. Saturday. LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Lewis County Recreation, Forestry and Parks Department is seeking input from the public as it works to expand the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail System in the towns of Watson, Glenfield, and Greig. A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at the 3G Firehall on 6229 Blue Street in Glenfield. The meeting will focus on state regulations regarding OHV Community Connectors and explore opportunities to expand off-road trails in the region. SNIRT Run in Lewis County faces uncertain future after this year's cancelation Department director Jackie Mahoney will be present to explain the trail development process, review landowner agreements, and answer questions from the community. Residents are invited to attend and share their thoughts—whether they're interested in offering land for trails, opening roads in their area, or voicing concerns. 'This is a great opportunity to build connections in the community while expanding outdoor recreation in a way that's safe, responsible, and respectful to landowners,' Mahoney said. 'I would love to hear from residents about trail access ideas or concerns.'
