Volvo's Electric EX30 Cross Country confirmed for SA
Volvo Car South Africa has confirmed that the EX30 Cross Country will arrive locally in the third quarter of 2025. Built on the standard model, this will serve as a tougher, more rugged counterpart. Looking for a new or used Volvo? Find it here with CARmag! The Cross Country badge, first used on the V70 back in 1997, returns here with an off-road-inspired makeover. Volvo has given the EX30 a raised ride height (19mm higher than the standard EX30), chunkier body cladding, and 19-inch five-spoke wheels finished in Matte Graphite with black aero inserts. Other design tweaks help the Cross Country stand out from the standard EX30. The front shield and boot lid wear a darker finish, and model-specific artwork on the front end takes inspiration from Sweden's Kebnekaise mountain range. Skid plates and wheel arch extensions complete the rugged aesthetic. South African buyers will get the Cross Country in the Ultra Twin Performance trim only. That means a fully loaded cabin with a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, and a long list of safety and driver assistance features over 15 in total, including Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera. Volvo will also offer accessories like mudflaps, a roof basket, and a load carrier for added versatility. The 69kWh battery pack offers a claimed WLTP range of 427km. Fast-charging capability means a 10 to 80% top-up takes just 26 minutes with a suitable DC fast charger. 'The EX30 Cross Country builds on everything people love about the EX30, adding rugged capability and distinctive design details,' said Felipe Yagi, Volvo Car South Africa's head of marketing and communications. 'It's a refined, all-electric SUV that feels equally at home on gravel roads or in the city, offering South Africans a practical way to go further with confidence.' Volvo S90 discontinued in India soon after facelift launch
The Volvo S90 has been discontinued in the Indian markets. Check Offers Volvo India has announced the discontinuation of its luxury sedan, the S90. The Volvo S90 was the only sedan in the manufacturer's lineup, leaving the brand with only SUVs in its Indian showcase. The carmaker had launched the facelifted version of the S90 in India. Now that the S90 has been removed from the lineup, the manufacturer is expected to soon bring in the EX30. The Volvo S90 had been facelifted recently with modern updates to the design and interiors. Volvo S90 Facelift: Design The latest S90 received a sharper-looking exterior over its predecessor, in line with the XC90 facelift that recently made it to the Indian market. The SUV gets a new front with a larger grille with the angular chrome slats, while the headlamps are slimmer and sharper, and sport the signature Thor's Hammer LED DRLs with Matrix-design LED technology. There's also a new sculpted bonnet and restyled front bumper to give the model a fresh look. The rear sports newly designed LED taillights with the same pattern as the front DRLs. The company has not revealed the final specifications of the engine options. Volvo S90 Facelift: Safety Safety continues to be a priority, with the S90 offering Volvo's Pilot Assist system. This includes adaptive cruise control, lane centring and automated braking in slow-moving traffic. Volvo's XC40 tops rivals in H1 sales as limited editions fuel demand
Volvo's compact sport utility vehicle, the XC40, topped sales in its segment for the first half of this year, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association on Friday. The XC40 sold 1,105 units between January and May, outpacing strong competitors such as the BMW X1 (1,063 units), MINI Countryman (716 units) and Audi Q3 (475 units). Since its global debut in 2017, the XC40 has consistently been a bestseller, particularly in Europe, where it has led the premium compact SUV segment for four consecutive years since 2020. It was also named the 2018 European Car of the Year. Despite being Volvo's entry-level SUV, the XC40 features flagship-level specifications. It comes equipped with advanced driver assistance systems such as Pilot Assist, as well as high-end interior elements including Driftwood inlays, a crystal gear shift knob by Swedish brand Orrefors and Harman Kardon premium sound system. The model also includes an integrated Tmap infotainment system tailored for Korean consumers. Volvo Car Korea has further enhanced the customer experience with a five-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty, complimentary consumables replacement, 15 years of free over-the-air updates, and a five-year 5G digital package. Priced at 54.9 million ($40,100), the top Ultimate trim offers a more affordable option compared to its overseas counterparts, including the US and UK, up to 29 million won cheaper. Online-exclusive editions have also amplified the model's appeal. The 100 units of the latest XC40 Black Edition sold out within just 15 minutes of its release on Tuesday. Earlier limited editions, such as the Sage Green and Dark Editions, also sold out within minutes of launch. Volvo Car Korea has maintained its position as the top importer since January, with consistent monthly sales of over 1,000 units, competing closely with Tesla, Lexus and Porsche in the best-selling segment of the Korean import car market.

Volvo's Abbey Road Mode Turns the EX90 Into a Personal Music Venue
Volvo's Abbey Road Mode Turns the EX90 Into a Personal Music Venue originally appeared on Autoblog. Music is an essential part of driving, whether through your car's radio, on physical media, or a streaming service like Spotify or Apple Music. Some of us have that special mixtape, burnt CD, or mixtape full of the essential tracks meant to lift the spirits on the morning commute, the drive home, or a long drive somewhere far away. One of the bands I grew an unhealthy, obsessive fixation over when I was a kid was The Beatles, and ironically, one of those songs on one of my driving playlists is Drive My Car. Though we know the words and notes of our favorite songs by heart, the most discerning ears know that there are wildly different and noticeable differences when we listen to them in our cars, our headphones, and through various types of speakers. Nothing can compare to the experience of attending a live performance or being in the room with artists as they record. However, if you're a Beatles fan like I am, you might need a time machine to experience that era. But while time machines and flux capacitors remain the work of fiction, Volvo's latest software update has a cool new feature that may be the next best thing: a way to bring you closer to one of the most iconic studios in the world. After teasing this feature last year, Volvo has officially introduced what they call the 'Abbey Road Studios Mode' in an over-the-air (OTA) update for its all-electric EX90 models equipped with the optional Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio system. This innovative digital audio experience has been crafted in collaboration with audio engineers from the actual Abbey Road Studios in London and high-end audio experts at Bowers & Wilkins. In essence, Abbey Road Studios Mode was made to replicate the distinct sound and acoustic character of the Abbey Road recording rooms inside the Volvo EX90. In its quest to explore the limits of the in-car music listening experience, Bowers & Wilkins worked closely with the same audio engineers who obsessed over the minute, fine details for a wide range of music artists to create a series of digital soundscapes that could bring the studio alive in the big Volvo EV's ultra-quiet cabin. Though other expensive brand-name high-end stereo systems in other cars allow you to tweak, tune, and mess with various equalizer (EQ) settings like the balance, bass, treble, and even focus the sound on passengers or drivers, Volvo says that the Abbey Road Studios Mode is different. The mode comes with some special presets that 'provide a selection of sounds, optimised for different listening styles,' as well as a special 'Producer Mode,' which 'allows you to engineer your own sound' by adjusting between retro-style warmth or modern, crisp depth, and even shifting the simulated acoustic environment in the same way George Martin would've done. 'The Abbey Road Studios Mode brings the unique sound of our spaces and equipment to the Bowers & Wilkins system in the Volvo EX90 for the first time,' Abbey Road Studios GM Jeremy Huffelmann said in a statement. 'We are hugely proud of this collaboration, and excited for Volvo customers to experience this landmark technology.' The Abbey Road Studios Mode is a nice addition to the EX90, which already features a Dolby Atmos-capable, 1,610-watt Bowers & Wilkins system with 25 speakers placed throughout one of Volvo's quietest interiors. As a music fan, words underestimate the kind of songs that were recorded at Abbey Road. We're talking 190 of The Beatles' 210 song catalog, Lennon's Imagine, the entirety of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of The Moon, modern hits like Lady Gaga's Born This Way, Frank Ocean's Pink + White, and even the scores of Oscar-winning movies like Gravity and The Shape of Water. Although it may seem like a bit too much of a niche "if you know, you know"-type of deal, I feel that given the studio's rich history in modern music, the 'Abbey Road mode' is the ultimate form of an audiophile's stamp of approval, which can sway at least some music-loving buyers towards the Volvo. At least for me, it could make "Drive My Car" sound true to the original recording.
