Sambhal police arrest gang for forging CM Yogi Adityanath's signature, threatening victims in property dispute

Representative photo BAREILLY: Sambhal police uncovered a fraud related to CM Yogi's public court program. A group of three people was copying the Chief Minister's signature and seal from the internet to create fake documents. They would then call officials using the name of the Gorakhpur Math , claiming to act in favor of the complainant. Once the work was done, the group charged between Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000 per case. The name of BJP's Western Region Vice President Rajesh Singhal's brother, Kapil Singhal , is also involved. The police arrested and jailed three people, including the main conspirator. During interrogation, Nagendra Kumar, a resident of Sihamau village in Barabanki, revealed that he met Kapil Singhal, Rajesh Singhal's brother, in Lucknow. Kapil gave him Rs 30,000 and asked him to pressure the family of his associate, Vipul Gupta, who resides in Mohalla Kot Purvi. Vipul Gupta and Kapil Singhal were business partners for two decades but recently fell out. There is an ongoing property dispute between Vipul and Kapil. A call was made to Vipul Gupta's wife, Shalini Agarwal, by a person claiming to be Pandit Raj Acharya Maharaj from BJP Lucknow and Gorakhpur Math. The caller inquired about the dispute with Kapil Singhal and urged Vipul to contact them soon, or they wouldn't be able to help. Shalini simply listened and ended the call with "Alright." Based on this 53-second viral audio, Vipul Gupta filed a complaint at Kotwali Sambhal under Section 351(4) of the BNS against an unknown person. The police investigation revealed that there is no such person in Gorakhpur Math or BJP Lucknow. SP Krishan Kumar Bishnoi said that Kapil Singhal plotted to seize Vipul Gupta's property by contacting the gang to threaten Vipul and his wife. A complaint was filed at Sambhal police station on February 18, 2025. Despite several raids, the accused remained elusive. After persistent efforts, all three were arrested. The SP mentioned that the gang took an advance of Rs 30,000 for issuing threats. Nagendra and Sudhir from Barabanki are the main members of this gang. Over the past month, they contacted revenue department officials 33 times and police officials' CUG mobile numbers 135 times. Cases will also be registered based on complaints from other victims. Action will be taken against the gang under the Gangster Act.
