Farmers, vets say product approval too slow

Photo: RNZ / Nate McKinnon Farmers' representatives are worried that plans to speed up access to new agri-chemicals won't be fast enough to compete on the world stage. Those concerns over pace of reform are shared by vets wanting to use new medicines. The Ministers for the Environment and Food Safety have set targets to reduce the queues to approve new agricultural and horticultural products and veterinary medicines. Regulation Minister David Seymour says the changes will speed up the application process. Kathryn discusses the change with David Birkett, Federated Farmers arable industry spokesperson and Kevin Bryant, CEO of the Veterinary Association.

World Veterinary Day celebrated in Guntur district
World Veterinary Day organised by the Veterinary Association was celebrated at the Kothapeta Veterinary Hospital in Guntur district. Guntur district Collector S. Nagalakshmi, who participated as the chief guest, shared her personal bond with veterinary services, recalling her father's service as a veterinarian near Madurai and praising the district's veterinary care. She commended the swift surgery on an injured cow following the intervention of a High Court Judge. Joint Director O. Narasimha Rao emphasised the World Veterinary Day 2025 theme 'Animal Health – One Team,' and stressed veterinarians' role in public nutrition. Retired experts D. Rajani Kanth and R. Lakshmi Prasad were also honoured.
