NC State coach Will Wade blasts ‘dumb' North Carolina for Ven-Allen Lubin usage
The post NC State coach Will Wade blasts 'dumb' North Carolina for Ven-Allen Lubin usage appeared first on ClutchPoints. The new NC State men's basketball coach is already causing a stir on Tobacco Road. Advertisement Will Wade took a shot at the Wolfpack's rival, North Carolina, in a video that surfaced on social media over the weekend. He was talking about incoming transfer Ven-Allen Lubin, a forward who played just under 20 minutes per game for the Tar Heel last year. 'The other school was too dumb to play him,' Wade said to a group of NC State fans in the video. 'When [Lubin] plays 28-plus minutes — he's done that in 23 games — he averages 15 [points] and eight [rebounds]. I don't know why the hell they didn't play him, but we're gonna play him. So he's gonna average 15 and eight. We're very excited about Ven.' When he suits up for NC State basketball, Lubin will be on his fourth school in as many years. He averaged 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds for UNC last year, and as Wade pointed out, he showed an ability to connect from three while at Vanderbilt, his second stop. He shot 33% from distance in 2023-24 but did not attempt a three-point shot during his season in Chapel Hill. Advertisement 'We're thrilled to welcome Ven-Allen to our program,' Wade said in a release when the school announced Lubin's arrival. 'Physically, he stands out with a wingspan over seven feet and a strong, powerful frame. Offensively, he creates mismatches — he can score over smaller defenders in the post and has the quickness to drive past bigger ones. He also showed the ability while at Vanderbilt to step out and be a weapon from three-point range and we'll look to build off of that. Wade also pointed to Lubin's efficiency. He shot 68% from the field last season on 5.3 attempts per game. 'He's an incredibly efficient scorer, having led his team in field goal percentage each of his first three college seasons,' he continued. 'Beyond that, he has a high basketball IQ and will be a tremendous presence in our locker room.' NC State and North Carolina are only scheduled to play each other once in 2025-26, in Raleigh. Will Wade loses NC State basketball commitment from big man after Ven-Allen Lubin signing
The post Will Wade loses NC State basketball commitment from big man after Ven-Allen Lubin signing appeared first on ClutchPoints. Will Wade and NC State basketball just lost one commit after a change of heart, with big man Paul Mbiya deciding to hit the recruitment trail again, according to Joe Tipton of On3. Advertisement Via Tipton on X (formerly Twitter): 'Congolese big man Paul Mbiya has decided to decommit from NC State and reopen his recruitment, source told @On3Recruits. The 6-11, 260-pound center boasts a 7-7 wingspan. The 20-year-old Mbiya most recently played with the French pro team ASVEL of the EuroLeague, a club owned by Tony Parker. ' It remains to be seen where exactly Mbiya will land next, but he should be able to garner plenty of attention, especially given his size and experience as a professional in France. It won't come as a big surprise if another ACC team will ultimately earn his nod, but other programs from other major conferences must have already turned their attention on him. In the 2024-25 season with ASVEL, Mbiya appeared in only a total of three contests and gathered just a point to go with two rebounds in eight minutes, but there is surely a big room for development for such a raw talent with great physical tools. Meanwhile, Mbiya's departure comes just after NC State recently scored a win on the transfer portal front with power forward Ven-Allen Lubin coming over to Raleigh following a short stint with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Lubin spent his junior year in the 2024-25 college basketball season with the Tar Heels, appearing in 20 games and averaging 8.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 0.9 blocks while shooting 68.4 percent from the field. Despite Mbiya's withdrawal from NC State basketball, Wade still has a bevvy of newcomers for the Wolfpack, particularly via the transfer portal, which includes a couple of his players from the McNeese State Cowboys. Guards Alyn Breed and Quadir Copeland have both followed Wade from McNeese State to NC State, while former Houston Cougars forward Terrance Arceneaux and ex-Michigan State Spartans guard have also taken their talents to the Cowboys, who have made the NCAA Tournament in two of the last three seasons. Advertisement Before his NC State basketball hiring, Wade steered McNeese State to 28 wins in the 2024-25 season and led the Cowboys to a second-round appearance in the Big Dance — the deepest the program has gone into March Madness ever.
