MLA aims to achieve full literacy in Kovur constituency
Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy, along with SPSR Nellore district Collector O. Anand, initiated a constituency-level literacy programme, which will be implemented in 138 hamlets of the constituency. She is confident that Kovur constituency will achieve 100 per cent literacy through this initiative. In a meeting held with community mobilisers as part of the programme at the ICDS Centre in Kovur on Tuesday, she said that the development of 82 panchayats in the constituency is in the hands of local leaders and the people. She said that only those who identify local needs and work towards their solutions will become true leaders. The MLA further said, 'Kovur is a vibrant constituency. The cancer screening tests conducted in the past has been a success story. Similarly, the literacy programme will see good results. The necessary financial support for this programme will be provided by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy through their VPR Trust.' 'While touring the villages at the field-level, I understood that there are many people who are unaware of the various welfare schemes provided by the government. Hence, being literate is vital for them to have a basic understanding of the respective schemes. Every person must utilise this opportunity and become literate, especially women,' she said. The MLA asked the community mobilisers to play their part in achieving complete literacy in Kovur. 'There is joy in sharing knowledge with others. Everyone should think in the same way and make the initiative a success.' she said. Meanwhile, Collector Anand said, 'As part of the efforts to increase the literacy rate in the district, Kovur constituency has been selected for this initiative. Nearly 2,500 volunteer teachers have been appointed to teach 22,000 illiterate people identified in the constituency.' 'Apart from making them literate, awareness on National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) works, banking operations, and other government programmes will also be imparted to them. As a part of the 90-day plan, they will also learn basic skills in financial literacy and digital literacy,' he added.
