TTD ex chairman accuses senior temple official of insulting Vedas

Tirupati: YSRCP senior leader and TTD former chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy levelled serious charges against a senior TTD official regarding Tirumala temple management. Speaking to media here on Friday, Karunakar Reddy alleged that the senior temple official in his recent temple visit speaking to some Veda pundits opined that chanting 'Om Namo Narayana' is suffice as it will be understood by all devotees instead of the Veda Parayanam (chanting ) being observed daily in the temple. It was very sad that a senior official in Tirumala slighting the chanting of the Vedas, the very foundation of Sanathana Dharma, Karunakar Reddy said, expressing fear that TTD the temple administration is likely to dilute Veda chanting in the famed Tirumala temple in the coming days. He further said there are 56 Veda pundits for chanting the four Vedas almost round-the-clock in Tirumala temple but many pundits retired and the posts remaining vacant. The YSRCP erstwhile Chittoor district president also alleged that the TTD security started frisking the chief priests of Tirumala temple at the behest of the same senior official and alleged that it is an insult of the priests respected by devotees. He also alleged that the official also instructed the heads of various Peetams functioning in Tirumala to stop annadanam in their mutts. He also saw notice served to mutts for encroaching lands. 'But later the TTD official concerned hastily withdrew his instruction and also action on mutts after the Centre's warning,' he said, adding that the aggrieved mutts approached top RSS leaders resulting in the Centre restraining the senior TTD official. Karunakar Reddy wanted all the Hindu organisations to protest against such acts of TTD. He also alleged that after 8 pm, the TTD vigilance staff are stopping the pilgrims going to Q complex to wait for darshan at several places in Tirumala. The TTD unable to provide proper darshan is resorting to such tactics to reduce the pilgrim number waiting for darshan in Q complex.

TTD officials dismiss Bhumana's accusations

1 2 Tirupati: Dismissing the accusations levelled by its former chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams reiterated that several reforms were introduced by the temple body in the last one year to uphold the sanctity and spiritual ambience of the hill town. Bhumana alleged that TTD was planning to end Veda Parayanam at the temple, which he said would be a sacrilege of the highest order. "A senior temple official recently called Veda Parayanam a waste of time. It is unfortunate that those who are supposed to uphold the sanctity of the temple are degenerating the significance of the Vedas," the former TTD chairman alleged. He further claimed that Tirumala temple priests were being subjected to hardships and humiliation and are being forced to undergo physical frisking, a practice which never existed in the past, adding that it's the duty of TTD to uphold the dignity of priests. Ridiculing TTD's proposed plans to take the help of artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce the waiting time for devotees, he said the temple body is now artificially keeping the outside queue lines empty by preventing devotees from even entering the queue lines. "The temple trust was formed to facilitate darshan for visiting devotees, not to prevent or turn them away," the veteran YSRCP leader alleged. Responding to the accusations, TTD said Bhumana's accusations about plans to stop Veda Parayanam are "completely baseless". .

YSRCP leader accuses TTD of planning to end Veda Parayanam

YSR Congress Party undivided Chittoor district president and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy on Friday alleged that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams management was planning to end Veda Parayanam at the temple and termed it a sacrilege of the highest order. However, the TTD condemned the remarks of Mr. Reddy and said that there was never any plan to end Veda Parayanam. Mr. Reddy at a media conference here on Friday (June 20) also accused a senior Devasthanams official of recently making fun of Veda Parayanam and terming it 'a waste of time'. He questioned how the officials of the temple management, who are required to uphold the Vedic Dharma, could make such irresponsible comments and belittle the age old traditions followed for centuries at the ancient temple. He also accused that the TTD authorities under the new regime were subjecting the priests to harassment by forcing them to undergo physical frisking, a practice that never existed in the past. Making light of TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu's oft-repeated phrase 'Artificial intelligence' to provide quick Darshan to pilgrims, Mr. Reddy said that the devotees were not even allowed into the queue lines to avoid showing rush and thus painting a rosy picture. Responding strongly, the TTD management condemned all the above allegations and also refuted allegation that priests were subjected to physical frisking. The frisking of employees entering and exiting the Parakamani currency counting centre, a long existing practice, was further strengthened by putting in place a Standard Operating Procedure, in view of an incident in 2023.
