'Fantastic Four's Vanessa Kirby and 'Thunderbolts*' Sebastian Stan Unite for New Movie

After they're finished fighting off villains and saving the world, two of the biggest names in the 2025 superhero film landscape are set to team up. And they'll do so in a genre that's an extremely far cry from the Marvel world. Sebastian Stan has made the leap from popular superhero to fan-favorite after reprising his role as Bucky Barnes in Thunderbolts*. He'll now star in a new project with one of the biggest names in the highly anticipated Fantastic Four: First Steps movie, Vanessa Kirby, who'll portray Sue Storm, which is set to premiere on July 25. As Deadline first reported, Stan and Kirby will headline and produce a new film based on Australian author Amy Taylor's upcoming second novel, Ruins. The news comes after Deadline reported that Miramax won the rights to Ruins "in a competitive bid." Here's a look at the book's story, which Deadline detailed: "Ruins follows a couple whose affair with a young Greek woman over the course of a summer in Athens threatens to crack their relationship open in a story about privilege and power, desire and intimacy." It sounds exciting, to say the least, and it's also a unique project that'll showcase the broad skillset of both stars. Along with Fantastic Four: First Steps, Kirby was featured in the movie Eden with Jude Law, Ana de Armas and Sydney Sweeney. She also played The White Widow in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. Stan has portrayed the character Bucky in multiple Marvel films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He also starred in the 2024 film A Different Man, among many other projects.'Fantastic Four's Vanessa Kirby and 'Thunderbolts*' Sebastian Stan Unite for New Movie first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 12, 2025

The definitive ranking of all 36 Marvel superhero films: These are the ones you must see... and the VERY contentious duds picked by a leading expert (and you'll never guess what comes out top)

Later this summer, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will launch what the people behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are solemnly calling 'Phase Six'. It will start a fresh barrage of films and TV series, all based on characters first published by Marvel Comics, and as the quartet of superheroes, Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing it will star, respectively, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (best-known as volatile cousin Richie in the TV hit The Bear). Their job will be to fight off the planet-devouring cosmic being Galactus (Ralph Ineson, still best-known as boorish Finchy in The Office). Now, it could be that you don't much care what happens to planet-devouring cosmic beings and aren't greatly invested in any of this. But millions of people around the world are, and have been ever since Marvel Studios knocked out their first MCU movie, Iron Man, back in 2008. In that time, the MCU has earned well over $30billion in global box-office revenue, making it comfortably the highest-grossing cinema franchise of all time.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Breaks 2025 Ticket Sales Record - Fans Are Ready for Marvel's First Family — GeekTyrant

Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps hasn't even hit theaters yet, but it's already flexing its cosmic muscles. According to Fandango, the film has officially become the top first-day ticket pre-seller of 2025 beating out every other release this year in just 24 hours. This comes as no surprise if you've been following the movie, which introduces Marvel's First Family to the MCU with a fresh 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic twist and a high-stakes showdown against Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Pedro Pascal leads as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, alongside Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm). Fandango executive Jerramy Hainline said in a statement: ' The Fantastic Four: First Steps marks an exciting new chapter for one of Marvel's most iconic teams. Early ticket sales show fans are eager to see these characters reimagined for a new generation.' Fandango also noted the movie was voted the #2 most anticipated film of the summer in their 2025 Moviegoing Trends & Insight Study, which surveyed over 5,000 fans. 'Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. 'Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.' Directed by WandaVision 's Matt Shakman, the movie also features Julia Garner as a 'Shalla-Bal version' of the Silver Surfer, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and mystery roles for John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne. With its bold visual style, stacked cast, and the promise of a proper introduction to the Fantastic Four in the MCU, The Fantastic Four: First Steps might be Marvel's next big leap.

'Fantastic Four: The First Steps' Final Trailer Drops Comics-Accurate Catchphrase

Family is front and centre of the latest trailer for Fantastic Four: The First Steps , featuring bonding moments sprinkled amid all the superhero action, alongside a first look at a certain someone. The celebration of family is established in the opening scene of the clip, with Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm going, 'Family — it's about connecting to something bigger than yourself.' As baby Franklin Richards is officially revealed, she continues: 'Whatever life throws at us, we'll face it together. As a family,' and the attention turns to various displays of the group's dynamics, including Johnny Storm (Joseph Quin, Stranger Things 4 ) giving The Thing a fist-bump, and the Human Torch's quip about taking back 'every single bad thing I've been saying about you' to Reed ( Pedro Pascal, The Last of Us ). And speaking of The Thing, played by The Bear 's Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the pic, the character finally gets time with his catchphrase from the comic books. Well, sort of — he responds with a 'Oh yeah!' after Johnny yells, 'Is it clobbering time?'. It's not all fluff, though, for two threatening forces are looming in the background: Julia Garner's Silver Surfer, and the terrifying Galactus (Ralph Ineson, Harry Potter films), who has also been turned into a popcorn bucket (via a separate trailer). Indeed, the greatest strength of Marvel's first family is each other, especially since Franklin has yet to grow into the powerful reality warper with god-like abilites that he is in the comics. The mutant is expected to play a role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film that will reunite this cast with the wider characters of the MCU, including Robert Downey Jr, who will play longtime Fantastic Four nemesis, Victor von Doom aka Dr Doom. Fantastic Four: The First Steps marks the first live-action debut of Franklin and Shalla-Bal, the female version of the Silver Surfer portrayed by Garner. Matthew Wood, known for voicing General Grevious across various Star Wars projects, joins the cast as robot H.E.R.B.I.E, with Natasha Lyonne ( Orange is the New Black ), John Malkovich ( In the Line of Fire ), and Paul Walter-Hauser ( Cobra Kai ) also starring. Matt Shakman directed a screenplay written by Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson. The first film in Phase Six of the MCU is scheduled to release on 25 July.
