High-risk sex offender charged in SkyTrain groping, transit police say

Hayden McCorriston was the subject of a public warning by the Vancouver Police Department on April 17, 2025. A 'high-risk sex offender' has been charged with sexual assault after allegedly groping a teenage girl in Surrey earlier this year. Metro Vancouver Transit Police announced Thursday that 30-year-old Hayden McCorriston had been charged with sexual assault in connection to an April 18 incident at Gateway SkyTrain Station. Around 9 p.m. that day, McCorriston allegedly followed a 17-year-old girl off of a train and groped her as she walked along the platform. The suspect then fled the station when the girl approached other passengers for help. At the time of the assault, the Vancouver Police Department had just issued a public warning about McCorriston, saying that he was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching the conditions of his release from prison. It was the second warning the VPD had issued about McCorriston in as many days. He was also the subject of a public warning when he was released to a Vancouver halfway house on April 17. According to police, McCorriston had obtained statutory release after serving two-thirds of his three-year, two-month sentence, which he received in 2023 after pleading guilty to five counts of sexual assault, two counts of assault, one count of assault by choking, one count of committing an indecent act, and one count of robbery. In their news release Thursday, transit police said McCorriston remains in custody. 'Everyone has the right to arrive at their transit destination safely, and without the fear of harassment or assault,' said Const. Amanda Steed, in the release. 'Thanks to this young woman's quick thinking, officers were able to conduct investigative steps that identified the suspect and make an arrest.' With files from CTV News Vancouver's Andrew Weichel

B.C. police watchdog investigating Vancouver crash that sent man to hospital

Investigators from B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office are seen in this file photo from the IIO. British Columbia's police oversight agency is investigating the actions of the Vancouver Police Department following a single-vehicle crash that sent one man to hospital over the weekend. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. says Vancouver police were called on Sunday about a Grey Toyota Echo that had been reported stolen from East Broadway, between Ontario and Quebec streets. Officers located the car around 4:30 p.m. that day, just before the car reportedly crashed in the 8100 block of Matheson Crescent, near the intersection of Southeast Marine Drive and Boundary Road. The driver was arrested at the scene and was taken to hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. The police oversight agency was notified about the incident and has since opened an investigation into the officers' conduct. The IIO investigates all police-related incidents that result in serious harm or death in B.C., whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing by police. The agency is working to determine whether the driver's injuries meet the definition of 'serious harm,' and whether there is any connection between the injuries and police actions or inactions. 'If both conditions are met, the investigation will continue to examine all available evidence to determine what occurred,' the IIO said in a statement Wednesday. 'At the conclusion of the investigation, the chief civilian director will also consider whether there are reasonable grounds to believe that an offence may have occurred.' Under the provincial Police Act, 'serious harm' is defined as an injury that may result in death, disfigurement or loss of function of a limb or organ. The police watchdog is asking anyone who witnessed or recorded video of the incident to contact investigators at 1-855-446-8477 or

Mother of missing Washington teen says she is being trafficked in Los Angeles

The mother of a 15-year-old girl from Washington tells KTLA that her daughter is missing, and she believes the young girl is being trafficked in Los Angeles. Trinity Ann Landsiedel went missing from Vancouver, Washington – located in the southern part of the state just north of Portland, Oregon – on June 1, a missing person bulletin distributed by The AWARE Foundation indicates. The flyer states that family members told the foundation that Trinity and another girl were taken by an adult man against their will to Los Angeles. The name and age of the other girl were not available. According to the flyer, both girls were seen in L.A. on June 12; however, the exact location within the city was not known. No information surrounding the identity or any characteristics of their alleged abductor were immediately known either. Trinity is described as standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. She has red and black hair. Her family is concerned for her safety and well-being and is asking for the public's help in locating her as well as the other girl. Anyone with information on Trinity's and/or the other girl's whereabouts is urged to call the Vancouver, Washington Police Department: 360-487-7400. In case of an emergency, dial 911. A 2022 article published by local outlet The Columbian indicates that in October of that year, Trinity went missing, although she was found shortly after. The circumstances behind the 2022 disappearance and where she was located weren't disclosed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Do you recognize this man? Video shows suspect in 16 break-ins across Vancouver's west side

Video provided by the Vancouver Police Department shows a suspect wanted in connection with 16 break-ins. Authorities are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with 16 break-ins committed across several of Vancouver's wealthiest neighbourhoods. The Vancouver Police Department said the individual is linked to a series of thefts throughout Marpole, Kerrisdale, Arbutus Ridge, Oakridge and Shaughnessy since January. The suspect has been entering homes through unlocked doors – either early in the morning or late at night, and 'often when people are home' – then stealing cash or valuables, police said in a news release Friday. The most recent happened early Friday morning near Marguerite Street and West 41st Avenue. 'We are actively working to identify and arrest this suspect,' said Const. Tania Visintin, in a statement. 'Until we find him, we're asking people to take extra precautions and to call police immediately if you encounter him.' Authorities also released a surveillance video and several images of a suspect Friday, along with a description. The individual is believed to be an Asian man in his 30s, who normally wears a dark baseball cap, dark hooded jacket, dark pants and dark running shoes, plus a medical facemask and blue gloves. While Visintin described the thefts as 'brazen' and 'frightening,' she said no one has been injured during any of the incidents reported so far. Authorities suspect the culprit lives on Vancouver's west side, and has been walking to the targeted homes. The burglarized properties are all located between West 16th and West 70th avenues, and between Oak and Elm streets. The Vancouver Police Department said patrols have been increased in the area, as officers canvass for video and witnesses. Authorities asked anyone with information on the suspect's identity to call 604-717-0610.
