'Not the first time': Marcos says he and his family often use MRT-3

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Friday said that he and his family often ride the MRT-3 together and that his ride last June 1 was "not the first time." ''First of all, hindi 'to first time na sumakay ako ng MRT, madalas namin gamitin 'yung MRT dahil sa traffic. Mas mabilis eh. Kami... pamilya ko, mga kaibigan ko. Hindi practical matraffic, magdadalawang oras ka hanggang Cubao,'' Marcos said in the BBM Podcast. (First of all, it was not my first time to ride the MRT. We often use the MRT because of the traffic. It's faster. I, my family, and my friends ride the MRT. The traffic is not practical, it's often two hours to get to Cubao.) He also shared that he often talks to commuters, and they told him about the usual crowded situation inside the train, adding that he personally experienced the challenge of commuting using the MRT-3. ''Naramdaman ko 'yan, minsan sumakay kami ng MRT, talagang pag nakapasok ka na, basta't 'yung kamay mo nandito, hindi mo na magagalaw 'yun. Nakadikit ka na dito. Kinakausap ko mga pasahero, 'Sir, ganyan talaga 'yan araw-araw,''' the President added. (I experienced that, one time we used the MRT and once you enter and place your hands here, you can no longer move. I often talk to passengers, and they tell me the situation is like that every day.) Marcos earlier announced the Family/Pamilya Pass 1+3 program, which was made in honor of Family Day and to celebrate Filipino families. In this program, families or barkadas of four members only need to pay for one passenger to ride the MRT-3, LRT-2 and LRT-1 every Sunday starting on June 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation has announced the increased discount for all students from 20% to 50% for LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 starting Friday. —VAL, GMA Integrated News

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the increased discount for all students from 20% to 50% for LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 starting Friday. "Ang 50% student discount ay applicable rin sa mga estudyanteng naka-enroll sa postgraduate studies at magagamit sa train lines araw-araw, kahit Sabado, Linggo o holiday," said DOTr in a Facebook post. Big-time fuel hike expected next week: P3 gasoline, P4.80 diesel

Motorists should brace for a big-time hike in pump prices next amid the Israel-Iran conflict, which is expected to have a major impact on the oil industry. The estimated ranges in upward price adjustments are as follows: Gasoline - increase of 2.50 to 3.00 Diesel - increase of 4.30 to 4.80 Kero - increase of 4.25 to 4.40 The estimates are from the Department Energy of Energy-Oil Industry Management Bureau, Assistant Director Rodela Romero, which is based on the 4-day trading in MOPS (Mean of Platts Singapore). Rodero said that the biggest factor for the possible increase is a "major oil price shock looming as the Israel-Iran conflict threatens critical global shipping passage." President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. earlier this week said that fuel subsidies would be given amid the expected oil price hike. 'We are starting already with the assumption that the oil prices will in fact go up and I cannot see how it will not. Because the Strait of Hormuz will then be blocked if it escalates. The oil cannot come out of its sources. So the prices will certainly be affected,'' Marcos said. ''So the subsidies that we have always given, fuel subsidies, that we gave to, if you remember during the pandemic, lalong-lalong na 'yung mga napapasada, 'yung mga may hanap-buhay naman sila, binigyan nating fuel subsidies (We gave fuel subsidies to drivers during the pandemic)," he added. Fuel firms announce official price movements every Monday, to be implemented on the following day. —VAL, GMA Integrated News

22 Filipinos in Israel amid airstrikes, says Israeli envoy

A total of 22 Filipinos on official travel to Israel have been trapped in the country following retaliatory airstrikes from Iran. In an interview on Tuesday, Israeli ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss said that at least 17 local government officials of the Philippines were in the country on an official visit along with a separate team on a study on dairy farming when the strikes occurred. 'About 17 mayors and local government representatives, then a few from the dairy industry. So altogether, we have 22 in Israel. I have to say that from what I see, they are feeling okay,' he shared. Fluss, meanwhile, assured that the Filipinos are being provided with support and care by the Israeli government, who are now working on their repatriation. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VAL, GMA Integrated News

DSWD: Around 1.5 million learners to benefit from expanded feeding program

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Tuesday said around 1.5 million learners would benefit from the government's expanded feeding program, which will begin in July. ''Para sa 2025, magsisimula na po ang supplemental feeding program. Ang nakalaan na pondo ho diyan ay halos P5.1 billion, kulang-kulang 1.5 million na mga naka-enroll sa mga child development center ang makakatanggap ng araw-araw na pagkain for a 120 days,'' Gatchalian said during a Palace press briefing. (For 2025, the implementation of the supplemental feeding program will start. The allocated fund is worth P5.1 billion, wherein more or less 1.5 million learners enrolled in the child development centers would be given food for 120 days.) ''These are hot meals na pini-prepare sa mga centers mismo or sa mga local government units,'' he added. (These are hot meals being prepared in centers or in local government units.) In implementing the supplemental feeding program, the DSWD earlier said that the children's weight and height are being measured at the start and after the completion of the feeding program and consistently monitored throughout the feeding sessions. The parents of the children are also involved in the preparation of the meals using affordable, nutritious, and indigenous ingredients, according to the DSWD. The program is implemented yearly after it was institutionalized in 2018 by Republic Act No. 11037, also known as the 'Masustansiyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act.' —VAL, GMA Integrated News
