Lotus Made the 2026 Emira Even Better, But Is It Worth The Wait?
The 2026 Lotus Emira gets even more brilliant than its predecessor lots of new gear. Getting one Stateside might be an exercise in patience. Additional trim levels and revised running gear bring the Emira to a new level Lotus has a reputation for building some of the best-handling cars of all time. The Emira was already widely lauded, but Lotus is bringing a host of changes to keep the car on the razor's edge. There's a little bit of a catch, though. If you're a US-based shopper, you might be waiting a while — if you can even get one at all. 2025 Ford Maverick: 4 reasons to love it, 2 reasons to think twice Watch More The Lotus Emira was already supremely focused, but it's a better sports car than ever for 2026 Lotus kicks off changes to the Emira with a new trim level, the V6 SE, which slots above the current V6 model with minor differences. Additional blacked-out trim, 20-inch forged alloy wheels, and unique badging are all unique to the model, which also comes standard in Zinc Grey paint. A new entry-level trim, the Turbo, comes in below the Turbo SE model and makes slightly less power from its turbocharged four-pot sourced from AMG. A new Racing Line trim, coming to Turbo SE and V6 SE variants, adds pinstripes, painted mirror caps, and unique black and silver exterior badging. There are several small changes impacting all 2026 Lotus Emira models, too. Lotus tinkered with damper calibration and dialed in the wheel alignment for improved handling and comfort. A new compression mount for manual-equipped cars offers gear changes with more precision than before, while DCT-equipped models enjoy faster and smoother shifts courtesy of recalibration efforts. Both versions also get slightly tweaked cooling systems that shed weight and better manage engine temps. 2026 Lotus Emira V6 — Source: Lotus It might sound good, but US-based shoppers will need patience if they want one In case you forgot, the Emira debuted back in 2021. If it seems like it's still a fairly new car, you're probably US-based. Here, the car wasn't really available until early 2024, when the California Air Resources Board (CARB) finally gave the car the go-ahead. Since then, tariffs have compounded the Emira's hardships, as Lotus pressed pause on all deliveries back in April. Conspicuously absent from the 2026 Emira's press release is any mention of US pricing, and there's a good reason. EmiraForum users report imports are still on hold, with 'vague' promises that shipments will resume 'in a few months.' Users on LotusTalk indicate plenty of 2025 models languishing in ports. What does it all mean? It means that, as usual, US shoppers who want an Emira will spend a lot of time waiting. But there is some silver lining: one EmiraForum user cites a dealer email signaling that an end is in sight. According to the email, 'Lotus awaits official documentation from the U.S. government specifying exactly what percentage of tariffs will be applied to imported Lotus vehicles.' After that, Lotus will adjust prices and proceed accordingly. To our eyes, that means the new and improved 2026 Lotus Emira will come to the United States eventually. With incremental improvements across the board, it's safe to say the steadfast among us will be well rewarded for their patience. This seems to be a common trend among British automobiles. Lotus Says the Emira Will Be Even Better to Drive for 2026
Although Lotus only began selling the Emira in the United States last year , the automaker is already improving the sports car. The Emira debuted in 2021 and went on sale in some parts of the world in 2022. For 2026, Lotus has made several technical upgrades that enhance its track performance while improving daily comfort. All new Emiras feature rerouted cooling system lines that improve flow to the transmission oil cooler and main radiator. The new piping also lowers the vehicle's weight, which is always a win. Lotus also recalibrated the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission for smoother, quicker are also two new colors: EOS Green and Purple Haze metallic. Photo by: Lotus Photo by: Lotus The V-6-powered Emira also receives some upgrades. It's now called the V6 SE, and it's the model's new flagship. The 3.5-liter supercharged V-6 is the same as before, producing 400 horsepower, but Lotus optimized the dampers and made "subtle adjustments in wheel alignment" for better handling and comfort. The six-speed manual transmission is standard in the Emira V6 SE, and Lotus said it's improved its shift quality with a new compression mount for the gearbox. The company says the upgrade will result in "more precise gear changes." Photo by: Lotus The Emira Turbo, the model's entry point, features the same Mercedes-AMG-sourced four-cylinder turbocharged engine as the Turbo SE . It also has the newly refined eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Lotus Emira Turbo starts at £79,500 ($107,969 at today's exchange rate), while the V6 SE costs £96,500 ($131,057). Order books are now open, with the updated sports car set to begin arriving in showrooms in September. Motor1 has reached out to Lotus to see when US customers can expect the updated Emira to go on sale Stateside. Lotus has tweaked the Emira and added a new ‘V6 SE' top-spec model
Lotus has tweaked the Emira and added a new 'V6 SE' top-spec model And if you don't fancy spending £96.5k, there's now a cheaper, less powerful entry-level called the 'Turbo' Skip 16 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 16 Lotus has rejigged its Emira lineup for what feels like the 63rd time this year, adding a new range-topping 'V6 SE' and entry-level 'Turbo'. It means the pre-existing Turbo SE now shifts into the middle ground. Of course. As the name suggests, the V6 SE will continue to use Toyota's 3.5-litre supercharged, er, V6. Rated at 400bhp and 310lb ft of torque, it's good for 0-62mph in 4.3s. To help you do just that, the six-speed manual 'box gains a new compression mount for slicker shifts. Aside from the model-specific badging, the V6 will get 20in forged alloys, red brake calipers and a 'Zing Grey' paint finish as standard. You'll also get the option of Lotus' new 'Racing Line' accents, which add a subtle pinstripe to the exterior and colour-matched mirror caps. Moving on to the Turbo, it'll pinch the same twin-scroll 2.0-litre four-pot as the Turbo SE, albeit detuned to 360bhp and 317lb ft. Still, it's just one-tenth off the V6's 0-62mph time, and tops out at a still respectable 171mph (compared to the V6's 180mph). The kit list is healthy too: 10in infotainment screen, 190-watt audio system and 12-way adjustable seats as standard. Plus, a safety suite with technologies like Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Warning and Fatigue Detection. Basically, it'll kick into life more easily when British weather does… British weather things. The V6 SE and Turbo will be available from September, priced at £96,500 and £79,500 respectively. Hardcore new Lotus Emira SE models launch the British Porsche Cayman rival close to £100k
New entry-level 'Turbo' and range-topping 'V6 SE' versions of the Lotus Emira are now available to order, with the two bookends of the British-built sports car's line-up costing from £79,500 and £96,500 respectively. The Emira Turbo features, as you've probably deduced, a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from AMG that spits out 360bhp – enough to fling the Porsche 718 Cayman rival from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds. The new edition sits below the recently launched Turbo SE that produces a round 400bhp from the same engine, and can pull off the benchmark sprint in 4.0 seconds, but costs £10,000 more. Both the Turbo and Turbo SE are available exclusively with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, although Lotus has tweaked it to deliver better, faster gearchanges than earlier examples. Standard equipment includes 12-way electrically adjustable seats with a memory function, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus various safety and driver-assistance systems. Meanwhile the Emira V6 SE uses a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine that also produces 400bhp – good for 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds – however the six-speed manual gearbox it comes with as standard has been tuned for better driver engagement. More specifically, Lotus has fitted a new compression mount, which the firm says allows for more precise gearchanges. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below An automatic transmission is available on this version too, and adding it cuts the 0-62mph time down to 4.8 seconds. Elsewhere, the dampers and wheel alignment have been fettled to provide sharper handling and better ride comfort. The V6 SE is also offered with a choice of two chassis and suspension set-ups. Lotus says 'Tour' is tuned for everyday road use, designed to offer sharp handling with a more comfortable ride, while 'Sports' adds stiffer springs and dampers, making it better suited for track use. The boffins in Hethel have also adjusted the Emira's cooling system, recalibrating the air-conditioning control system and routing the coolant lines differently to provide better flow to both the transmission oil cooler and the main radiator. Lotus says this not only provides more cooling, but also reduces the weight of the car. Finally, Lotus has introduced two new paint colours to the Emira range – EOS Green and Purple Haze – and a new Racing Line specification, which is available on both the Turbo SE and V6 SE. For an extra £3,000, this adds yellow, red or silver accents to the front splitter, plus brake calipers and mirrors caps in the same colour, which is also used for the stitching in the cabin.
