WATCH: V12 super-battle as new Aston Martin Vanquish takes on Ferrari 12Cilindri – but which one will win?

These epic new Aston and Ferrari V12s have brought a famous old rivalry back to the boil. Our colleague Richard Lane took them to some heavenly roads in Scotland to find out which car is king of the V12 class today. If you want to compare Aston and Ferrari, there's no end of criteria. Yet the comparison that hits hardest and means the most remains Il Classico. We're talking grand tourers, especially the V12 ones. For us these extraordinary cars still define the companies. Does it matter which wins? In truth, not especially. I'll tell you now that, barring the odd quirk, both the 12Cilindri and the Vanquish offer an experience so absurdly gratifying, exciting and evocative that you would give a kidney to own either. Today's verdict is more of a gun-to-the-head affair – watch the film above to find it out…

A moment of silence, please: production of the GMA T.50 is ending in July

A moment of silence, please: production of the GMA T.50 is ending in July Gordon Murray's three-seat, sub-tonne, V12-powered masterpiece is bowing out after 100 units built Skip 15 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 15 Just like that, perhaps the greatest performance car of our time, the GMA T.50, will reach the end of its production this July, concluding a 100-car run that began in early 2023. The T.50 was unveiled almost five years ago before making its public debut at the 78th Goodwood Members' Meeting in October 2021. Advertisement - Page continues below Then came our world-exclusive drive in November 2023, and the conclusion from Top Gear's own Ollie Marriage was as follows: 'This is a car that reaches the parts no other can. A symphony of engineering purity, weight-saving purges and mechanical artistry. It will almost certainly never be bettered.' In fact, the only real shortcoming is a lack of cupholders. Small price to pay in return for the best driver's car… in the world. Let's run through the numbers, of old times' sake: a Cosworth-developed 3.9-litre nat asp V12, a kerb weight of 997kg, and a pure-as-you-like six-speed manual 'box. It'll top out at 226mph thanks to outputs of 664bhp and 353lb ft. No e-motor assistance here either, which may be a big reason why you lot voted it as your favourite V12 production car right now. Advertisement - Page continues below GMA's factory will only be quiet for a brief period, because the company has announced that its Special Vehicles (GMSV) division is preparing to reveal its first two supercars at the Monterey Car Week in August. Phillip Lee, the CEO of the Gordon Murray Group, said: 'We are excited to offer customers the opportunity to create the bespoke supercar of their dreams with the GMSV design and engineering teams. We're also enthusiastic to show the world's automotive fans our most unique expressions of the Gordon Murray Automotive ethos through GMSV.' Goodwood will also celebrate 60 years of Gordon Murray's work at the Festival of Speed this year, where key models from the legendary South African's career will feature. Those include the Brabham BT46B Formula One fan car, the McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail, and the softer version of the T.50, the T.33. There might even be a spicier version of that on show. 'I can barely believe it's been 60 years I've been designing and engineering race and road cars,' said Gordon Murray. 'I can't wait to reminisce with the thousands of fans at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The GMSV double debut that follows just a month later will offer customers, old and new, even more ways to be part of our celebration of cars and driving.' This Dyson vacuum also automatically adjusts its suction power depending on how deep of a cleaning your floors need. The brush also features detangling technology, so you'll never have to worry about hair rendering your vacuum useless. There is an LCD screen display too — this lets you know how much battery you have left, and also shows how much debris the vacuum has collected. You can even check if your vacuum went into deep cleaning mode with the LED display. A third shopper replaced their older Dyson vacuum with the V12 and could not be happier: 'This model is lighter, easier to use, and quieter than our old model. The hands-free empty system is much easier than the old one, and the attachment for hardwood floors is amazing! Here's your chance to own three different Ferrari Daytonas… for £6m+

Here's your chance to own three different Ferrari Daytonas… for £6m+ Need a new daily, summer cruiser and track toy? RM Sotheby's latest auction might appeal Skip 18 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 18 The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' is famous for several reasons: the stunning design, its 174mph top speed (a production car record in 1968), and because the soft interior and predictable handling made it a grand touring supremo. Courtesy of RM Sotheby's, a unique opportunity to own three gloriously kept variations of the Daytona has now appeared, including a Berlinetta, Spider and Competizione. Very nice… but do consider they're likely to cost a combined fee of at least £6m ($8m). Yikes. Advertisement - Page continues below It's estimated that Ferrari made 1,284 Berlinettas, and this one's 2,000-mile odometer count makes it one of the freshest examples in existence. Finished in 'Rosso Chiaro' (red) over a 'Nero' (er, black) interior, it's a sumptuous piece of car design. From the iconic front strip and pop-up headlights, to the tiny five-spoke alloys and protruding quad-exhaust pipes, it's got serious presence. Beneath the long, sweeping bonnet sits a 4.4-litre 'Colombo' V12 mated to a five-speed manual transmission, sending 347bhp and 318lb ft to the rear wheels. 0-62mph is sorted in five-and-a-bit seconds. Mighty outputs, even by today's standards. Then there's the $2m Spider, which is arguably even more gorgeous than the Berlinetta. And considerably rarer, since production amounted to just... 121 units. This one gets wire-spoked 'Borrani' alloys and a colour-matched front strip, and is believed to be one of only six Spiders to get a lick of 'Rosso Dino' paint complete with beige upholstery. It's also the last convertible Ferrari to use that famous Colombo engine. The trio concludes with the race-bred Prancing Horse: a Series III 'Competizione'. 15 were factory-built, and the one in question DNF'd at Le Mans in '74, but went on to win the GT Class at the Daytona 24 Hours the following year. There's pedigree, alright. Advertisement - Page continues below Changes over the standard Berlinetta include a front lip with vertical fins to boost aero, wider rear wheel arches and lighter body panels made of steel. Mechanically, there's an improved compression ratio and sharper timing, billeted steel pistons and connecting rods, plus revised exhaust manifolds. There's also four fuel pumps as opposed to two, and air ducts fitted ahead of the thicker stoppers for better cooling. That V12 also gets a hefty power bump to 450bhp, so it should be a good laugh on the various global classical events you can enter it into. Though we're not sure how you'd feel about lugging your precious $5.5m vintage racer around Cadwell Park on a rainy Thursday night… Top Gear Newsletter Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter.
