The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced a nationwide innovation challenge, Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon 2025, with Hack2skill as the innovation partner. It was launched by ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan on Wednesday. The space agency has called upon undergraduates, graduates, postgraduates, and PhD scholars to participate in the hackathon. It said that working professionals are not eligible to participate. The last date for submission of proposals is July 9. 'The Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon 2025 is where bold ideas meet real-world space challenges. As India accelerates its journey in space research and exploration, this hackathon invites the country's brightest minds to step up and drive the next wave of innovation. With problem statements directly from ISRO, participants will get the unique opportunity to apply their skills, think creatively, and build solutions that could shape the future of India's space missions,' the space agency said in a statement on Thursday. There are 14 challenges in total, and registered participants will have to choose a challenge provided by ISRO. Interested persons can register through Hack2skill's website.

Ax-4 mission delayed again
New York: The much-anticipated launch of the Ax-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), featuring Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, has been postponed once again due to technical observations related to the Zvezda module of the ISS. NASA announced the delay on social media, citing safety concerns. 'Together with @Axiom_Space, we are postponing the launch of #Ax4 to the @Space_Station. A new launch date will be provided once available,' NASA wrote in a post on X. India's space agency ISRO also acknowledged the development and reassured its commitment to mission safety and coordination with international partners. 'ISRO is working closely with @Axiom_Space, @NASA, @SpaceX as they responsibly address the ISS Zvezda module observation causing the Ax 4 delay. Safety and mission integrity remain our top priorities. With regards Dr. V. Narayanan, Secretary DOS/Chairman ISRO & Chairman Space Commission,' ISRO wrote in an X post. The Ax-4 mission, operated by US-based Axiom Space, was scheduled for launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 11 at 8 a.m. local time (5:30 p.m. IST). The mission has now faced multiple delays, having initially been scheduled for May 29 and then successively postponed to June 8, June 10, and June 11. This mission holds historic significance for India. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to become the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station and only the second Indian in space after Rakesh Sharma's flight in 1984. Shukla will serve as the pilot of the mission alongside Commander Peggy Whitson of the United States. The other crew members include Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary, both serving as mission specialists.

Axiom Mission 4 postponed again, this time due to glitch in ISS
Bengaluru The launch of Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla's mission to the International Space Station (ISS) has once again been postponed, this time due to a glitch in the ISS. NASA said that it, along with Axiom Space, is postponing the launch of Axiom Mission 4 to the ISS. As part of an ongoing investigation, NASA is working with Russia's space agency Roscosmos to understand a new pressure signature, after the recent post-repair effort in the aft most segment of the ISS's Zvezda service module. According to NASA, 'Cosmonauts aboard the space station recently performed inspections of the pressurized module's interior surfaces, sealed some additional areas of interest, and measured the current leak rate. Following this effort, the segment now is holding pressure.' Postponement of Axiom Mission 4 provides additional time for NASA and Roscosmos to evaluate the situation and determine whether any additional troubleshooting is necessary. NASA deferred to Roscosmos to answer specific questions about the Zvezda module. A new launch date for the fourth private astronaut mission is yet to be decided. The crew of the Axion-4 mission was scheduled to lift off aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on Falcon 9 from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. ISRO Chairman Dr Dr. V. Narayanan said that it i is working closely with the other agencies involved in the mission as they responsibly address the ISS Zvezda module observation causing the Ax‑4 delay. 'Safety and mission integrity remain our top priorities,' Dr. Narayanan said. Timeline of developments related to launch 1. The launch originally scheduled on May 29 was deferred due to observation in electrical harness in Crew Dragon Module, launch rescheduled to June 8 2. The launch was postponed by one day to June 9 due to delay in preparedness of the Falcon 9 vehicle for the launch. 3. The launch was further postpone to June 10 due to unfavourable weather in the ascent corridor. 4. Additional observation of oxygen leakage in the engine bay was observed during the preparation for hot fire test conducted on June 8. Moreover, there was an observation of an anomaly in one of the engine actuators, which was replaced along with the controller. 5. Anticipating quick resolution of LOX leak issue, the launch was rescheduled to June 11. 6. During the appraisal of technical issues by Axiom & SpaceX to ISRO delegation on June 10, ISRO recommended carrying out in-situ repairs, or replacement, and conduct a low-temperature leak test to validate system performance and integrity, before proceeding with launch clearance. 7. On June 11, NASA informed that they are working with Roscosmos to evaluate a new pressure signature indicating a leak in the aft most segment of the ISS Zvezda Russian service module, after the recent repair attempt. In order to assess the situation and determine the need for further troubleshooting, the launch of Axiom-4 mission is being postponed.

Standing down from Falcon 9's launch of Ax-4: SpaceX
SpaceX has said that it is standing down from Falcon 9's launch of Axiom Space Ax-4 mission which will carry Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla's to the International Space Station. 'SpaceX is standing down from Falcon 9's launch of Axiom Space's Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) to the International Space Station from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday, June 11, to allow additional time for SpaceX teams to repair the LOx leak identified during post static fire booster inspections. Once complete – and pending Range availability – we will share a new launch date,' SpaceX said. The last update by the American space technology company on late Tuesday (June 10, 2025) night said that 85% of the weather is favourable for the launch of Axiom Space Ax-4 mission. 'Weather is 85% favorable for liftoff, with teams continuing to monitor high-winds in the ascent corridor,' SpaceX said in its last update prior to postponing the launch. ISRO also said that the launch has been postponed. 'As part of launch vehicle preparation to validate the performance of booster stage of Falcon 9 launch vehicle, seven second of hot test was carried out on the launch pad. It is understood that LOX leakage was detected in the propulsion bay during the test. Based on the discussion on this topic by ISRO team with the experts of Axiom and SpaceX it has been decided to correct the leak and carry out necessary validation test before clearing for the launch. Hence the launch of Axiom 04 slated for 11th June 2025 for sending first Indian Gaganyatri to ISS is postponed, ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan said.
