Gemma Chan Joins Peacock Drama ‘The Five-Star Weekend'
Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians, The Actor) has joined Peacock's upcoming drama series The Five-Star Weekend in the series-regular role of Gigi Ling. She joins star and executive producer Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, and Chloë Sevigny, who were previously announced. Created by Bekah Brunstetter (Maid, This is Us), the project is based on bestselling novel The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand. It had been in the works at the streamer for about a year under an overall deal Sue Naegle and Ali Krug signed with the Universal Studio Group unit for their Dinner Party Productions. The series greenlight was secured by Garner's casting as star and executive producer. Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis's picture-perfect life — her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter and her growing pursuit of validation from her followers. RELATED: In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her 20s, 30s and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, they will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed. Universal Studio Group and IndieWire Present USG University: Consider This, a Celebration of TV Craft in Los Angeles on May 22
Emmy season is ramping up, and now's the time to dive deeper into the creation of some of your favorite shows. Join Universal Studio Group and IndieWire for 'USG University: Consider This, an evening celebrating the art of TV storytelling through craft on May 22. IndieWire will also be partnering with USG for its tentpole FYC campaign, USG University, which encompasses a slate of virtual panels with producers, actors, and artisans from shows such as 'The Four Seasons,' 'The Americas,' 'Saturday Night Live,' 'Hacks,' 'Happy's Place,' and more. The first virtual panel will launch on IndieWire on May 19, with two a week rolling out in the weeks after that. Bestselling mystery novel 'Listen for the Lie' is coming to TV
True crime podcast lovers, bookworms and mystery series fans will all find something of interest in 'Listen for the Lie,' the latest hit book to get the TV treatment. Universal will adapt the thriller novel into a drama series of the same name, the studio announced Sunday at the L.A. Times Festival of Books. Author Amy Tintera's bestseller, published last March, follows Lucy on her quest to solve best friend Savvy's murder, in which she is the prime suspect. The TV series, written by Rachel Shukert ("Nine Perfect Strangers," "The Baby-Sitters Club") and executive produced by Tintera, Shukert and Dinner Party Productions' Sue Naegle and Ali Krug ("Pam & Tommy"), is in development at UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. After moving to L.A. to start a new life, Lucy is forced to revisit her small Texas hometown — and the circumstances of Savvy's death — when the host of the hit true crime podcast 'Listen for the Lie' makes the case the focus of his next investigation. Tintera, Naegle, Shukert and Jordan Moblo, the executive vice president of creative acquisitions and IP management at Universal Studio Group, first announced the project Sunday at the L.A.
