Iran targets Tel Aviv with new rocket salvo
Shafaq News/ Iran launched a fresh round of rockets toward Tel Aviv on Tuesday afternoon, intensifying a direct confrontation with Israel for the fifth consecutive day. The Israeli military tracked fewer than 10 projectiles in the latest barrage. Sirens were triggered across central and southern Israel, and the Home Front Command issued emergency alerts in multiple areas. Israel's emergency services initially reported four injuries, all sustained while civilians moved toward protective shelters. A senior Israeli official, quoted by Channel 12, confirmed the deployment of US-supplied THAAD missile defense systems during the interception effort. In retaliation, Israeli forces targeted rocket launch platforms in Iran, according to Israeli media reports. Strikes continue to escalate between Tehran and Tel Aviv, the most recent incidents being a high-destruction drone and missile barrage from Iran today, which destroyed "strategic Israeli weapons and sites," while Israel struck "military sites" in western Iran. Israel's airstrikes have killed at least 224 Iranians—mostly civilians—while Iran's missile barrages have caused 24 deaths and injured hundreds of Israelis.

Iran frames Israeli attacks as serious breach of international norms
Shafaq News/ On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry accused Israel of launching an attack on Iranian territory using US-supplied weapons, calling the escalation more than a conventional conflict and a threat to international stability. At a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei held any country supporting or justifying Israeli actions responsible for what he called a "serious breach of international norms," accusing Israel of a series of targeted killings of Iranian military personnel and nuclear scientists, alongside strikes on residential and nuclear facilities in Natanz and Isfahan. Baghaei called on the United Nations Security Council to intervene, while criticizing what he described as ''double standards'' in the global response. He also emphasized that international appeals for Iranian restraint overlook the critical distinction between the aggressor and the state under attack. 'The world must recognize who initiates aggression and who defends their sovereignty,' he added. Reaffirming Iran's position, Baghaei stressed the country's commitment to a 'legitimate and forceful response' under international law. His remarks came amid a series of overnight missile strikes across multiple locations in Israel. Tasnim News Agency reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) deployed an increased number of hypersonic missiles during the latest assaults. These weapons, known for their high speed and destructive capacity, enhance the ability to penetrate advanced air defense systems compared to earlier attacks. Tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv have surged sharply since June 13, when Israel launched a surprise missile strike inside Iranian territory. Iran responded that same night with heavy missile barrages over four consecutive days, targeting military sites and infrastructure within Israel.

US-Israeli Deception Gave Iran False Security Amid Washington Green Light
Fresh reporting as well as new Friday statements by President Trump reveal that the US and Israel practiced deceptive diplomacy, as Israeli and American officials worked together to convince Iran that nuclear negotiations were progressing. Yet all the while an elaborate Israel attack on Iranian nuclear sites was being planned, and Tehran was given a false sense of security, and ill-prepared for its defense. Axios has reported that Tel Aviv was given 'a clear US green light' to start bombing, according to two unnamed Israeli officials. The previously widely reported 'split' and spat between Trump and Netanyahu was a public ruse. 'Two Israeli officials claimed to Axios that Trump and his aides were only pretending to oppose an Israeli attack in public — and didn't express opposition in private,' the report explained. 'The goal, they say, was to convince Iran that no attack was imminent and make sure Iranians on Israel's target list wouldn't move to new locations.' Trump was even publicly advocating for diplomacy even up to within hours of the overnight attacks, which involved at least 200 Israeli warplanes, and drones. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has since publicly denied American involvement, but Trump has admitted that he was briefed on the major Israeli military operation. Trump has further indicated that US-supplied weapons were used against Iran. Meanwhile: TRUMP SAYS IRAN OFFICIALS CALLING HIM TO DISCUSS SITUATION: NBC Thus far, there's been no evidence of direct Pentagon involvement. But clearly, the Islamic Republic was lulled or tricked into believing that no Israeli strikes were actually imminent. Per WSJ: President Trump told The Wall Street Journal that he and his team were read in on Israel's plans to attack Iran. Asked what kind of heads-up the U.S. got ahead of the attack, Trump said in a brief phone interview, 'Heads-up? It wasn't a heads-up. It was, we know what's going on.' Israel is seeking to both decapitate Iran's military leadership and completely destroy Iran's nuclear program, which Tehran has long maintained is for peaceful energy purposes. Given Tehran has vowed to continue its nuclear activities undeterred, despite damage at Natanz and other sites, more waves of Israeli attacks are likely. Israel's military has on Friday said it has begun to deploy reservists from different units to all combat areas nationwide in readiness for a potential Iranian military response. Certainly, something was going on last night at The Pentagon… The question remains: what next? So far, Iranian anti-air defenses have appeared almost non-existent. It's also unclear the degree to which Iran's air defenses and ballistic missile sites have already been destroyed or damaged.

Most US Abrams Tanks in Ukraine Destroyed
Russian media outlet RIA Novosti has cited a study which says the majority of the 31 US-supplied M1 Abrams tanks delivered to Ukraine have been destroyed. The tanks, which were authorized for transfer under President Biden, have all been destroyed or damaged with the exception of a mere five. These remaining tanks were then reportedly pulled from the front lines given Ukrainian commanders' fears they are too vulnerable to superior Russian airpower. The claim that 26 have been destroyed since they entered the battlefield seems plausible, and consistent with an April 2024 Associated Press report which confirmed at the time, 'Ukraine has sidelined U.S.-provided Abrams M1A1 battle tanks for now in its fight against Russia, in part because Russian drone warfare has made it too difficult for them to operate without detection or coming under attack,' citing two US military officials. And here's what a Ukraine war monitor published in December 2024: Ukraine has lost at least 17 Abrams, according to the Oryx open-source tracking group. Of those, at least eight were destroyed, one damaged, seven damaged and abandoned and one captured. The actual figures are likely higher in reality because Oryx only tabulates losses for which it has visual confirmation. Given that a year-and-a-half has passed since that prior report, it is certainly easy to consider that at least nine more tanks were disabled or destroyed in that time period. War-related social media posts have circulated several videos which purport to show Abrams tanks being targeted from the air and blown up… Russian telegram channels posted videos of fiber optic cable FPV strikes on a Ukrainian Abrams tank in Kursk oblast last week. Aside from a concussion, the crew survived without injury and made it back to friendly lines. @KofmanMichael and I spoke to the commander of the tank… — Rob Lee (@RALee85) December 19, 2024 According to Russia's RT and the defense ministry, Ukraine lost two of the Abrams tanks as recently as last week. 'Last week, Russia's Defense Ministry reported that two Ukrainian Abrams tanks had been seized during an operation in Ukraine's Sumy Region,' RT wrote. 'The Defense Ministry released a video showing Russian troops recovering the vehicles, which appeared to be intact,' the report continued. 'The tanks were reportedly towed to the rear by the 22nd Motor Rifle Regiment after reconnaissance teams secured the area.' Both President Biden at the time (in 2023) as well as much of the American media hailed that the Abrams tanks for Ukraine program (which involved training operators) would be a 'game-changer'. But it perhaps in the end proved embarrassing for the Pentagon. Also read: Man Who Flew 120 Times For Free By Posing As Flight Attendant Convicted Of Fraud
