Space42 introduces Thuraya Mobile Broadband Hotspot

Designed for multipurpose land and maritime use, the Thuraya Mobile Broadband Hotspot (MBH) terminal supports a wide range of built-in features that ensure reliable connectivity in remote and challenging environments. Space42, the UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company, has announced the commercial availability of Thuraya Mobile Broadband Hotspot (Thuraya MBH). This lightweight, secure, and affordable broadband terminal is designed to extend critical communications to users on the move in remote environments. As demand for seamless, reliable connectivity accelerates, areas across land and sea remain outside the coverage of terrestrial networks. This coverage gap can endanger lives, delay emergency response, and disrupt mission-critical operations. Thuraya MBH addresses these challenges with an easy-to-deploy solution that delivers reliable satellite connectivity for remote areas across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia. Thuraya MBH is built to operate on the existing Thuraya satellite network and is fully compatible with the upcoming Thuraya-4 satellite, one of the largest and most advanced mobile satellite solutions (MSS) ever produced. It is among the first of more than 15 new Thuraya-4-enabled products that will serve both government and commercial markets. Sulaiman Al Ali, Chief Commercial Officer, Space Services at Space42, said: 'Thuraya MBH ensures critical communications remain operational in environments where terrestrial networks cannot reach. This terminal integrates satellite mobility with existing infrastructure, providing reliable connectivity for civil government and commercial users across land and sea. From emergency response teams operating in remote locations to maritime vessels beyond coastal coverage, MBH delivers secure communications when conventional networks fail. The platform addresses real operational challenges while maintaining the robust security standards essential for mission-critical applications. This launch also advances two of Space42's strategic pillars: being a global Non-Terrestrial-Network (NTN) leader and being a trusted leader in secure connectivity.' Thuraya MBH is designed for operational simplicity and resilient performance in field conditions. The all-in-one terminal supports satellite connectivity for vehicles and vessels operating beyond terrestrial coverage, with a durable form factor and minimal setup requirements. It enables reliable communication in scenarios such as maritime operations moving in and out of coastal coverage, as well as emergency responses beyond cellular range. MBH is well-suited for use cases such as push-to-talk (PTT) communications, email, file transfers, remote asset monitoring, and IoT. It supports operations across civil government, remote utility fieldwork, coastal surveillance, and border security patrols. It is also an ideal solution for maritime users, including fishing vessels, yachts, ferries, bulk carriers, and uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), where reliable satellite connectivity is essential. Thuraya MBH meets IP67/IP68 durability standards and features built-in capabilities, including tracking, geofencing, and distress alerts, when integrated with third-party systems. Its security architecture features multi-level access controls, SIM pairing, PIN protection, and firewall management, ensuring secure and compliant operations across various sectors, including fisheries, border security, civil government, energy and transportation. The terminal also supports affordable data plans, a streamlined user interface, and 15 language functionalities. Designed for compatibility with external systems, it enables fleet and asset management in mobile, remote environments. An emergency fallback feature allows users to transmit text-based emails when onboard networks are unavailable. Thuraya MBH will be available through authorized Thuraya service partners starting today, June 19, 2025.

All-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo GT goes fastest once again

This Taycan has 580kW of power on tap which increases to 760kW during launch. The ridiculously fast Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has just gone and added the Yas Marina Circuit to the growing list of global racetracks where it is officially the fastest production battery electric vehicle. The record lap time of two minutes 7.247 seconds was set using the current 5.2km F1 GP World Championship circuit in Abu Dhabi. Strict regulations A new official lap record format from the Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO) dictates that cars undergo strict scrutineering prior to track activity. This is done to ensure the cars are being run standard production car trim and specification. On track activity is then limited to a 60-minute practice session, followed by a 45-minute qualifying session. It's during this qualifying session that the lap record time must be set. ALSO READ: Porsche's most powerful jolt ever released called Taycan Turbo GT UAE-based GT racing driver and instructor Ramez Azzam was the man behind the wheel of the Porsche Taycan for the record attempt. 'We all know electric vehicles can be fast in a straight line. To be fast over a whole lap is where the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT really shines,' said Azzam. Eye-popping oomph Using the expertise Porsche has developed from its championship-winning 99X Electric race car that competes in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the Taycan Turbo GT is able to bring that technology to the street as the most powerful production Porsche ever. The car offers 580kW of power for normal use. But this number jumps up to a full 760kW with launch control activated. An optional Weissach package is available for the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. What this means for the man in the street is that there are no rear seats. There is also more carbon fibre and this in turn offers a better power-to-weight ratio. The Weissach package saves 75kg while a fixed rear wing provides extra downforce. Porsche Taycan Turbo GT race-ready The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT comes standard with lightweight ceramic brakes based on the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake. The car is also equipped with the Dynamics Package that includes the Porsche Active Ride suspension with GT-specific tuning. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is said to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.2 seconds. And reach a top speed of 305km/h. If only The Citizen Motoring could get our hands on one, this Porsche just might be able to topple Mercedes-AMG's GT 63 S E Performance Coupe from the top of our sprint table too.

Father's Day in the Middle East: thoughtful (and last-minute) gift ideas that deliver

Didn't we already do Father's Day? Not quite. While many parts of the world celebrated it last weekend (June 15), Father's Day in the United Arab Emirates and much of the Middle East falls on Saturday, June 21. So if you haven't sorted a gift yet — you've still got time. And if you're aiming for something meaningful but quick to arrange, here are thoughtful, last-minute ideas that Dad will actually love. For the experience seeker Spa day with a twist: Forget fluffy robes and cucumber slices — book Dad in for a gents-only hammam or a results-focused sports massage at one of the city's top spots. Talise Ottoman Spa at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray offers a regal hammam experience steeped in tradition, while The Ritz-Carlton DIFC delivers urban luxury with its targeted treatments tailored for the overworked (or over-golfed) dad. For something beachside and restorative, Anantara The Palm's men's packages combine deep relaxation with five-star polish. It's a gift that says: 'You deserve to switch off.' Swing session at Five Iron Golf: If your dad's more into fairways than facials, book him an indoor session at Five Iron Golf. It's all about virtual championship courses, cold drinks, and friendly competition — no sunscreen required. Whether he's a seasoned player or just in it for the post-putt pints, the social setup and casual vibe make it perfect for a fun Father's Day hang with you or his mates. Hot sauce tasting or steak night: Turn dinner into an experience with a meat-lover's dream meal at Carna by Dario Cecchini, The Guild, or Hunter & Barrel. These spots specialise in expertly grilled steaks, spicy sauces, and a warm, masculine ambience that's made for celebratory nights. Bonus: many offer curated tasting menus, so you can let the chef do the deciding — just sit back, eat well, and toast to Dad in style. For the quick-click gifter Same-day delivery from Floward or Joi Gifts: From luxury grooming boxes to Arabic sweets and custom cakes, these platforms have last-minute gifting down to an art. The packaging is premium, the options are curated, and many bundles come with personalisation — making it feel far from a rush job. Digital gift cards from Talabat, Amazon, Namshi or Deliveroo: They're instant, flexible, and surprisingly thoughtful when paired with a note or a recommendation. Add a personal touch by suggesting what he could spend it on — from a new grill tool set to his go-to shawarma spot. Online experiences and subscriptions: Surprise him with a MasterClass membership (for the dad who's always learning), a Spotify Family Plan (so he can finally ditch the ads), or a Shahid VIP account for binge-worthy Arabic series. It's a gift that keeps giving — no wrapping required. For the Sentimental Side Custom art or calligraphy from a local artist: Commission a portrait, family illustration, or even an Arabic calligraphy piece with a personal message or his name. Many UAE-based artists on Instagram or Etsy offer digital delivery — perfect for quick turnaround with a meaningful touch. Framed family photo delivered same-day: Print out a special memory and have it framed and delivered through services like Gallery One or Instacart. It's a simple way to remind him of what matters most — and it looks great on his desk or wall. Handwritten letter paired with his favourite snack or drink: A heartfelt note still goes a long way — especially when it comes with a bag of his favourite chips, a chocolate bar, or his go-to bottle. It's inexpensive, intimate, and probably the one gift he'll remember most. AI 171 crash: JDA thanks UAE-based doctor for financial aid

Ahmedabad: The Junior Doctors' Association (JDA) at BJ Medical College wrote a letter to Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, for his "generous and compassionate act of providing financial aid to victims of the recent tragic plane crash". Dr Vayalil has offered Rs 1 crore for each of the four deceased students' families, Rs 20 lakh each for five seriously injured students and for the families of doctors who lost their loved ones. "Your timely support during this hour of distress has brought solace and hope to the families affected by this unfortunate incident. Such a noble gesture reflects not only your humanitarian spirit but also serves as an inspiring example of global solidarity and empathy," read the letter shared by JDA on its social media platforms on Thursday. The UAE-based doctor-turned-businessman announced aid of Rs 6 crore to families of medical students and doctors affected by the crash in Ahmedabad. He told the media that the images of the crash struck a chord with him "as someone who lived in similar hostels during his medical education at Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore and Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Chennai". "I saw the footage from the mess and the hostel, and it truly shook me. It reminded me of the places I once called home, the corridors, the beds, the laughter, the pressure of exams and the anticipation of a call from family," he told the media. "Those students started the day thinking about lectures, assignments and patients. Their lives ended in a way none of us could ever imagine. It hit close. Too close." Earlier too, Dr Vayalil has announced humanitarian aid earlier after natural and manmade disasters.
