Two rallies with two messages taking place in Kota Kinabalu
KOTA KINABALU: Two peaceful rallies are being staged in nearby locations over the weekend, each conveying different messages. The first rally involves university students mainly from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), non-governmental organisations and supporters. The second, a smaller group claiming to be university students and their supporters, is also taking place in the city. The UMS group is holding the Gempur Rasuah 2.0 rally, protesting against corruption, unfair administration, and the failure to deliver basic infrastructure and necessities such as water. They are also continuing their year-long criticism of Tun Musa Aman's appointment as the Head of State. UMS student group Suara Mahasiswa president Muhamad Fadhil Muhamad Kasim said the rally is not against the government but opposes corrupt and unfair governance. It is also a call for the youth to voice their dissatisfaction and concerns when something is wrong with the government. They began their rally in front of the Suria Sabah Shopping Mall and initially refused to leave despite security guards' requests, so as not to disrupt mall-goers and road users. However, they relented after being informed that the rally was legal, with police approval and certain rules in place. The Gempur Rasuah 2.0 rally is set to continue at several checkpoints until Sunday (June 22). The other movement, Gerakan Anak Muda dan Mahasiswa Anak Sabah (Gammas), held a demonstration lasting less than 30 minutes at Chong Tien Vun Park nearby. Representative Noridi @ Noraidi Maya said they are not staging a counter-rally against the UMS students but showing solidarity and support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He stated that students received benefits and aid from the government, such as the Sentosa, Budi, and Subfly assistance. Regarding the ongoing mining scandal, he said it is best to leave investigations to the authorities, as students are unsure of the details and proceedings. On issues of water, electricity, and infrastructure such as roads, Noridi said these are decades-old problems currently being addressed. Other matters discussed included the proposed Political Funding Act and the appointment of Tun Musa Aman as the Head of State. 'We urge the federal government to expedite the passing of this Political Funding Act to prevent issues such as mining and related matters from recurring,' he said. Noridi stated that the TYT's appointment is final and should not be questioned further. He called on students and the public to move on from this matter to protect the sanctity of the royal institution.

Musa Aman: Integrity must guide all levels of Sabah's administration as 60 honoured at state ceremony
KOTA KINABALU, June 21 — Integrity must be upheld across all levels of administration and leadership in Sabah to maintain public trust in government institutions, said Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman. He said it is his aspiration to see the state governed with integrity, accountability and wisdom, supported by sustainable development plans that prioritise the people's well-being. 'I believe with strong leadership and the support of the people, Sabah will continue to grow and prosper,' he said in a special address in conjunction with his 74th official birthday here today. He delivered the address at the 2025 Sabah Investiture Ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu, where 60 individuals received state awards, medals and honours. Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other state leaders. Tun Musa emphasised the need to strengthen development efforts to ensure sustainable and inclusive progress, through close cooperation between the government and the people. He also stressed the importance of addressing global challenges through progressive approaches, including the promotion of technological innovation, development of quality human capital, and the building of a resilient economy 'Building a dynamic and competitive society is crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the state's development,' he said. He further called for continued unity among the people, describing it as the foundation for peace and progress in Sabah. Tun Musa also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his Cabinet for their commitment to advancing the state in line with a more inclusive and sustainable development agenda. Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim led today's honours list after being conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'. Businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Albert Lim Yu Ming were also awarded the SPDK. A total of 37 individuals received the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title 'Datuk'. Among the recipients were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Dr Fuziah Salleh and Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang. Other PGDK recipients included Senator Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian, Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim, Amanah Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu, Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai, Sabah Special Branch chief SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, and veteran journalist Emin Madi of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau. The first session of the investiture ceremony also saw five individuals receiving the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), four each receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), and six receiving the Justice of the Peace (JP) title. Earlier, Musa, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, attended the parade held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah at Padang Merdeka. — Bernama

Hajiji touts investment surge, stronger federal ties as proof of Sabah Maju Jaya plan's success
KOTA KINABALU, June 21 — The State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to driving inclusive and holistic development under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap, aimed at ensuring sustainable progress and the wellbeing of the people. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the SMJ initiative has yielded significant impact since its introduction, particularly in economic recovery, investment growth, agriculture, human capital development and social welfare. 'Alhamdulillah, we are witnessing a surge in investment activity and an increase in state revenue over the past few years. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the government's strategic approach,' he said. Hajiji said this in his speech during the 74th official birthday celebration of the Head of State, Tun (Dr) Musa Aman, held at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday. He emphasised that agriculture remains a key focus area for the State Government, as it plays a crucial role in strengthening food security in Sabah. Among the notable initiatives, he said, is the establishment of the Sabah Paddy and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), which aims to raise the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent in 2025 to 60 per cent by 2030. 'This is a strategic move to enhance Sabah's self-reliance in food production while reducing dependency on imports,' he stressed. In line with developing future-ready talent, Hajiji said human capital development, particularly among youth, remains high on the government's agenda through various empowerment programmes involving skills training, education, entrepreneurship, leadership and sports. The State Government, he added, has also approved the establishment of the Sabah State TVET Council as a coordinating and monitoring platform for technical and vocational education and training in line with industry demands. 'We want to ensure that Sabah's youth are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills to meaningfully contribute to the development of the state and the nation,' he said. On federal-state ties, Hajiji reiterated that the close cooperation and good relations with the Federal Government will continue to be upheld to ensure Sabah is not left behind in the national development agenda. He expressed appreciation for the Federal Government's various forms of assistance and initiatives, especially in areas such as infrastructure, health, education and security. Hajiji also thanked the Prime Minister for his firm stance in safeguarding Sabah's rights and sovereignty, including the recent success in fending off foreign claims against the state at the international level. 'Malaysia's success in defending Sabah from external claims affirms the state's sovereign status under the Malaysian Federation and provides reassurance and confidence to the people of Sabah,' he said. Hajiji also conveyed his heartfelt birthday wishes to Tun Musa in conjunction with his 74th official birthday and prayed for continued good health and blessings for him and Toh Puan. 'The State Government and the people of Sabah extend our deepest appreciation for Your Excellency's leadership and enduring service. May Allah SWT bless Tun with longevity and continued protection,' he said. KOTA KINABALU: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail heads a list of 1,015 recipients of state honours in conjunction with the 74th official birthday of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Saifuddin Nasution was conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'. Also receiving the SPDK were Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim, as well as businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Lim Yu Ming. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh and Tourism, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan were among the 78 recipients of the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) award, which carries the title of 'Datuk'. Other PGDK recipients include Senator Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian, Labuan MP Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang, and Pantai Manis assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal. Among the other recipients were Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai; Head of the Internal Security and Public Order Department, Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters, SAC Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek; and Head of the Special Branch, Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters, SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak. Also conferred the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) were Commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade, Brig Gen Jagjit Singh Indar Singh; Sabah State Health Department Director, Dr Maria Suleiman; Sabah Parks Director, Dr Maklarin Lakim; Football Association of Malaysia President, Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub; and Sabah Islamic Religious Council Chief Executive Officer, Ramlan Awang Ali. A total of 274 individuals were conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), 181 received the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK), 248 the Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), 285 the Bintang Kinabalu (BK), 109 the Perkhidmatan Terpuji award, and 10 were bestowed the Jaksa Pendamai (Justice of the Peace) title. Three Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau staff were also honoured, namely seasoned journalist Emin Madi, who was conferred the PGDK; Sabah Bureau Chief Fadzli Ramli, who received the ADK; and photographer Zamain Singkui, who was awarded the BSK. Tun Musa Aman is scheduled to officiate the investiture ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu tomorrow.
