Trichy startups get branding support from AU incubation centre

Trichy: The state govt-funded Anna Business Incubation Research Foundation (ABIRF) has extended branding support to nine promising Trichy-based startups in various sectors to enhance their visibility. Under the Startup Brand Identity Launch programme, the foundation, which operates from Anna University Trichy campus, has extended suggestions and designed logos with brand names for the identified startups at a concessional rate. Officials said that all nine startups, which are in their early stage of their business ventures involving technology, are run by youths aged less than 32. The startups are from property technology, food, automobile, and robotics sectors. By using one of the startups nurtured by Anna incubation centre, brand logos and names for nine startups were designed by the centre. "Proper logo and brand names will enhance the startup's visibility, build brand equity, and accelerate market presence for early-stage ventures. It is quite expensive if done outside, so we utilised the help of one of our home-grown design startups to support others," Vinoth Malaikani, chief executive officer in-charge of ABIRF, said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The newly designed logos that explain the roles and fields of each startup were launched by J Innocent Divya, commissioner, Directorate of Technical Education, at ABIRF office on Friday. "So far, our startup did not have a proper logo, and consumers were not understanding our domain. The new logo and brand name designed with the support of the incubation centre was cost-effective, and customers now understand our operational areas," Vinothkumar Palanivel, founder and CEO of LandMarket, a property tech startup, told TOI. The incubation centre provided suggestions in branding and outreach initiatives for the startups to attract their target consumers. ABIRF, which is supported by Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII) of Tamil Nadu govt, has provided infrastructural support, mentoring, product development assistance, and investor connect services to the startups.

Tamil Nadu has the distinction of being a frontrunner in exports, in electronics, textiles, leather, and automobiles. Simultaneously, the state has witnessed shrinking agricultural lands and increasing urbanisation, which has exerted stress on its agricultural exports. The area under horticultural crop cultivation such as vegetables, fruits, spices, aromatic crops, medicinal crops, flowers and plantation in the state is 16 lakh hectares contributing a total production of about 235 lakh tonnes. In the food grains segment, production of 130 lakh tonnes comprising rice, millets and pulses is targeted for the current financial year. In exports, the state's share remained less than 5% over seven years, though it rose to the 7th position in 2024-25 from 9th in 2022-23. During 2024-25, TN recorded $1.5 bn exports in the agriculture sector, as per data available with the NIRYAT portal of the Union ministry of commerce and industry. While Madhya Pradesh was just ahead at $1.7 billion, Karnataka stood fifth with an export value of $2.2 billion in the last fiscal (FY25). While Tamil Nadu might not be in a position to compete with states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh in the quantum of agricultural exports, it has unique, high-quality GI-tagged agricultural produce. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Run Your Business Like a Pro - Top Trending Accounting Software (Check Now) Accounting ERP Click Here Undo The state has several unique agri, horti and floricultural offerings that can cater to the growing global demand, including turmeric, banana, tea, mangoes, jasmine, among others. Turmeric is among the most sought-after spices across the world, and TN is the third largest producer of the commodity in India. Popular for its utility in the manufacturing of curry powder, turmeric is well known for its medicinal value too. However, just 15% turmeric is exported from its hub in Erode that holds GI tag for Erode Manjal (Erode Turmeric). S Chandramohan, director and group president finance, TAFE, and past chairman of CII Tamil Nadu, says there is a potential for value addition. 'Turmeric is used in Germany for various applications such as promoting skin health, supporting the immune system, aiding digestion and promoting general health.' He adds, 'Stakeholders in the agro space could consider tie-ups with enterprises specialising in Ayurvedic solutions. Adhering to quality control and communicating regional requirements to the farmers to ensure compliance will go a long way,' he said. It's noteworthy that Tamil Nadu is the largest producer of bananas in India. About 30 varieties are grown in more than one lakh hectares across 12 districts mostly concentrated in Trichy, Theni, Tuticorin, Pudukkottai and Coimbatore. Manikutty Subramanian, director of Trichy-based TN Banana Producer Company says hardly 5% of banana from the state is exported. 'We are mainly exporting the G9 variety of banana due to its low price. Of late, our native varieties such as Nendran and red banana are also seeing an interest among consumers in UAE and Saudi Arabia. Nendran is also exported in the form of dry banana, a ready to eat value added product with a shelf life of three to six months. We are urging farmers to tap the global market as it will double their income through foreign exchange. We believe that banana exports can move up to 20% over the years if there is special focus on increasing exports,' he added. Tamil Nadu must focus on creating value-added products, inspire local entrepreneurs to build homegrown premium brands, launch Tamil Nadu agri-products on global e-commerce platforms, promote them in airports, trade fairs, and food expos. Anil Kumar SG, founder and CEO of Chennai-headquartered agri-value chain enabler, Samunnati says, 'Imagine Tirunelveli or Theni mango juice in sustainable glass bottles, Pollachi coconut bites sold in airport lounges, or Nilgiris tea-infused chocolates/pastries crafted for global connoisseurs. There should be partnerships with global brands to enter new markets,' he said. A category yet to be well-tapped in exports is flowers. TN is the largest producer of flowers in India, with a share of 20%, produces about five lakh tonnes of flowers per annum. Of this, cut roses are exported to Europe and east Asian countries, while jasmine is flown to the Middle East and UK. R Murthy, president of Flower Growers Association of TN says. 'A floriculture park must be established at Kodaikanal on the lines of industrial parks for food and other manufacturing sectors. This park will be a game changer in exports because flowers can be processed and packed depending on the requirements of various countries,' he adds. World Bicycle Day 2025: Your guide to a thrilling cycle ride in the rains

On June 3, Trichy-based ultra-marathoner and triathlete C S Siddharth has a special cycling activity planned. 'We are organising a city-wide Bicycle Treasure Hunt that blends adventure, fitness and the cause of sustainable transportation ," he says. Why June 3? To celebrate World Bicycle Day. While weather conditions, especially the early monsoon in Maharashtra, have made it difficult for regular riders to continue with their routine cycling, it hasn't entirely stopped them from doing what they love. Safety and preparedness, over speed and competition To celebrate the special day, numerous cycling groups and individuals plan to go pedalling on routes they love. Charvi Khurana, a Mumbai-based cyclist who loves midnight rides, plans to ride her bike on her usual Andheri to Colaba route. Citing the weather and road conditions, she says, 'Safety comes first whether it's monsoon or not. It's all about keeping dry and using the roads wisely, while wearing your safety gear of course.' Riding your bike in the monsoon is tricky. Siddharth shares, 'During the monsoons, balance your training between indoor and outdoor cycling. On a very heavy rain day, train indoors and when skies clear up, hit the wet roads with wider threaded tires on fender-equipped frames, and grippy shoes. I think these are most important for safety.' Charvi adds, 'Avoid roads that are slippery. Control and comfort are more important than speed in the rain.' image by Abhishek Tarfe of Velocrush India by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo Of nostalgia and learning new things During cycling events in the monsoon, organisers prioritise preparedness and safety. These events are about having fun, remembering your childhood days and making memories,' says Abhishek Tarfe, Founder of Velocrush India. While childhood memories drive some, for others, cycling is a new learning experience. Vinod Pukhraj Choudhary, a Pune-based marathon runner and cycling enthusiast, often rides from Pune to Lonavala. He tells us, 'I started cycling just to try something new, but I quickly fell in love with it. There's something about being out on the road that feels incredibly freeing. It's not just about fitness anymore. It's a way of life. It helps me stay consistent with my routine and connects me with a like-minded community. It has become a part of who I am.' Accident hotspots on Trichy-Chennai NH get 57 new streetlights

Trichy: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has installed 57 streetlights at five spots on Trichy-Chennai NH identified as accident-prone hotspots in suburbs of Trichy. The locations on a 4-km stretch were selected based on the suggestions from the district road safety council. NHAI said the new streetlights were set up at Koothur, Pallividai, Samayapuram, Panamangalam, and Palur on the highway where there was no streetlight. In Panamangalam, Pallividai, and Palur areas, people heading to work for Trichy had been crossing the NH amid speeding vehicles. A police constable who crossed the highway near Panamangalam was fatally knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in Feb. During the recent district road safety meeting, members apprised NHAI of the multiple dark stretches posing a threat for two-wheelers and pedestrians crossing the roads during odd hours. Subsequently, NHAI's Trichy project implementation unit (PIU) conducted a safety audit to identify vulnerable spots and installed streetlights. "The new streetlights are not yet connected to electricity. NHAI should expedite the process to illuminate the new lights," P Aiyarappan, a member of the road safety council, said. NHAI officials said that Tangedco Trichy has been approached to provide new electricity connections under non-commercial tariff to reduce the electricity expense. "We are following it up with Tangedco. Soon, the new streetlights will be illuminated," a NHAI official said. Meanwhile, locals welcomed the move to provide additional lights on the NH and added the need for more lights in other stretches. "New streetlights should also be installed between Mannarpuram and Panjapur Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) on Trichy-Madurai NH. Despite being within the city, the highway remains dark," S R Kishorekumar, a Trichy-based advocate, said. NHAI said it would discuss with Trichy corporation to know whether it could sponsor the new lights in the stretch. Afforestation to safeguard land from encroachments near IBT

Trichy: Trichy District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and revenue department have raised native tree saplings under the Miyawaki method in land retrieved from encroachers in Thirumalaisamudram village near the upcoming Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT). The move to create dense urban forest was mooted by authorities to prevent encroachers from misusing the land again since the market value of land around Panjapur has been skyrocketing due to the new infrastructure proposals. Officials said that around 14 acres of govt land in Thirumalaisamudram belonging to the revenue department was found encroached by private individuals for a long time. After lifting legal hurdles in taking possession and through court's directives, Srirangam revenue officials retrieved around 10 acres of encroached land recently. To safeguard the retrieved land and increase the green cover, they have planned to raise 25,000 native tree saplings in two acres. With CSR support from Trichy-based entrepreneurs, the revenue department involving MGNREGA workers prepared the site for a mass tree plantation drive likely to be completed by Wednesday. "Around 27 varieties of native tree saplings will be planted. Provision for borewell is available, DRDA is supporting the drive. Drip irrigation system is planned to ensure proper maintenance and survival of saplings," said S Vaithyanathan, personal assistant (general) to Perambalur district collector.
