Real Madrid working on another free agent deal; this PL star on the verge of leaving?
Real Madrid is reportedly working on another free agent deal after Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on June 19, 2025, 18:57 IST Last updated June 19, 2025, 18:57 IST Real Madrid is reportedly working on another free agent deal after Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. The player who has been now listed is from Liverpool only and one of the great defenders in the PL right now. Ibrahima Konate has been rumoured to be leaving the side and Madrid are monitoring his situation closely. They are planning to make a move for the centre-back as they have a chance to get them as a free agent this summer. Real Madrid are reportedly working on yet another high-profile free agent deal, with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté emerging as their latest target. Following reports linking Trent Alexander-Arnold with a potential free move to the Spanish capital, Konaté has now entered the spotlight as Los Blancos look to bolster their backline. According to several sources, Real Madrid are closely monitoring Konaté's situation at Anfield, with his contract set to run down. The 25-year-old Frenchman has established himself as one of the most promising centre-backs in the Premier League, combining pace, power, and composure to form a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk. With uncertainty looming over Konaté's future and no contract extension agreed upon yet, Real Madrid see an opportunity to swoop in and secure the defender without a transfer fee. The La Liga giants are planning a strategic approach, similar to their previous free signings, as they aim to strengthen their squad without breaking the bank. Thursday's briefing: Mudryk charged and Real held on Alexander-Arnold debut
Trent Alexander-Arnold's Real Madrid debut ended in frustration at the Club World Cup, but Manchester City's Rico Lewis endured an even more disappointing night as he was sent off. England edged their way into the European Under-21 Championship quarter-finals despite defeat by Germany. Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association with violating anti-doping rules. The 24-year-old, an £88.5million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, has not played since being handed a provisional suspension in December after he returned a positive test, reportedly for the banned substance meldonium. An FA statement said: 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations three and four of the FA's anti-doping regulations.' Pep Guardiola leapt to the defence of Rico Lewis after the Manchester City defender's 'unnecessary' sending-off in their Club World Cup opener. Lewis was dismissed by Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti after catching Samuel Obeng in the face following a sliding challenge two minutes from the end of a 2-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca. City boss Guardiola said: 'He touched the ball. For the speed they go to touch the ball – for the Newton's theory your leg has to be a little bit higher and the other player was down. 'Rico had no intention. It was unnecessary, honestly, the red card, but the referee had a different opinion and he's the boss.' Debutants Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen suffered a frustrating evening in Miami as Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 Club World Cup draw by Saudi side Al Hilal. Madrid boss Xabi Alonso and opposite number Simone Inzaghi were both taking charge of their new clubs for the first time. Gonzalo Garcia fired the Spanish giants into a 34th-minute lead but Ruben Neves levelled from the penalty spot before the break. Alonso's men had the better of the second half, but could not find a way past stubborn opponents as Federico Valverde's stoppage-time penalty was saved. A narrow defeat in Nitra for our #YoungLions, who still progress to the #U21EURO knockout stage. Our match report ⤵️ — England (@England) June 18, 2025 England will play Spain in the quarter-finals of the European Under-21 Championship after they were beaten 2-1 by Germany in their final group game in Slovakia to finish runners-up in Group B. Lee Carsley's side needed a victory in Nitra to go through to the knockout rounds in first place, but despite already-qualified Germany making 11 changes, the reigning champions struggled to impose themselves. Goals from Ansgar Knauff and Nelson Weiper sent the 2023 winners to defeat and left them to face pre-tournament favourites Spain – who they beat in the final two years ago – in Trnava on Saturday. Bournemouth's Alex Scott tapped home 15 minutes from time from Omari Hutchinson's cross to make it 2-1, with Slovenia's defeat by the Czech Republic enough to secure England's passage. The Club World Cup is the focus once again as Lionel Messi's Inter Miami look to register their first win of the competition when they take on Porto in Atlanta, having drawn their opening fixture against Al Ahly 0-0. The Egyptian side are also in action again, this time against Palmeiras.

Trent Alexander-Arnold tells Liverpool fans how long he's been learning Spanish
Trent Alexander-Arnold insists he has only been learning Spanish for 'a couple of months', despite producing a near-fluent speech at his Real Madrid unveiling last week. The 26-year-old ex-Liverpool right-back was named in Xabi Alonso's starting XI for the side's Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal on Wednesday to become the seventh Englishman to represent Madrid. Madrid were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw and it was a mixed debut from Alexander-Arnold in Miami, which perhaps should be expected given the full-back had only signed on the dotted line at the Bernabeu just six days earlier. Alonso's men looked to be heading for victory after Gonzalo Garcia broke the deadlock with a scuffed finish towards the end of the first half, only for Al-Hilal to equalise from the spot through Ruben Neves just seven minutes later. Los Blancos pushed for a winner after the break, but a combination of the woodwork and some goalkeeping heroics from Al-Hilal's Yassine Bounou prevented Los Blancos from sealing all three points. The La Liga giants will hope to make amends when they take on Mexican outfit Pachuca at North Carolina's Bank of America Stadium on Sunday evening. 'Incredible day. To have made my debut for Real Madrid, it's something that I think almost every player dreams be able to achieve that is huge for me,' Alexander-Arnold told DAZN shortly after the final whistle. 'Of course, there's some disappointment in there to have not won the game. 'That's the mentality you need to have as a Real Madrid player, to want and expect to win every game we play in. 'We're disappointed not to have done that, but there were a lot of positives, especially in the second half.' Alexander-Arnold, who was taken off for Lucas Vazquez in the second period, passed on his thanks to Madrid's 'truly amazing' fans who 'dominated the stands' at Hard Rock Stadium. 'Incredible. I felt the support from the moment I signed with the club, to be honest,' the England international added. 'Absolutely sensation. A fanbase that is global, truly global, all over the world. You feel it every single day. 'The fans are at the training ground, the hotel, all over social media. The support is incredible. A huge thank you for that. 'We dominated the stands today which is incredible. The support is truly amazing.' Liverpool supporters were left stunned by the speech Alexander-Arnold gave at his Madrid presentation, leading many to speculate that a move had been in the works for much longer than the defender had been letting on. But asked how long he had been learning the language, Alexander-Arnold replied: 'Not too long! A couple of months. 'It was something that I found was very important for me to do. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I want to adapt and give myself the best start possible, going to a new city, a new country and a new team. 'It's important to show the intent and show that I want to embrace the culture, immerse myself in it and adapt as best as possible. 'That was very important for me to do that.' Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel joked that Alexander-Arnold must have been learning Spanish for at least a year while reacting to the defender's post-match interview in the DAZN studio. 'He's been a fantastic player for Liverpool, he spent 20 years there and won everything for Liverpool,' Obi Mikel said. 'But one thing I disagree with him now is that he spent a couple of months learning Spanish. I don't agree with that! 'I think it's a bit longer… about a year.' More Trending On Alexander-Arnold's debut display, Obi Mikel continued: 'You know when you play for Real Madrid that the scrutiny is going to get bigger. 'But, obviously, this is his first game. I don't think we need to judge him. 'Listen, what Trent gives you going forward is fantastic. Yes, sometimes we do criticise him about his defending, but I think now at Real Madrid, he's going to have time with Alonso to work on his defending. 'That's something he needs to tighten up. But going forward, what he gives you is absolutely fantastic.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. How did Alexander-Arnold play in his Real Madrid debut at FIFA Club World Cup 2025?
England full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold made his debut for his new club, Real Madrid, at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 against Al Hilal in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday. The 26-year-old played 65 minutes at the Hard Rock Stadium as Los Blancos were held to a 1-1 draw in their tournament opener. 'An amazing day to make my debut for Real Madrid, almost what every player dreams of,' he told DAZN after the match 'Incredible, I felt the support from the moment I signed for the club. Sensational. The fanbase is truly global, all over the world. You feel it every single day.' Alexander-Arnold moved to the Spanish capital on a free transfer from his boyhood club, Liverpool, having played 354 matches for the Reds and won eight trophies in the process. 'Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn't happen every day. It's a dream come true. I'm happy and proud to be here. I'm excited to show my game to the Madrid fans,' he had said after being unveiled as a Real Madrid player. 'I'm aware of what it means to play for Real Madrid, it's a big responsibility, but I'm ready.' In the game against Al Hilal, he had a shaky start, getting caught out of position thrice. But he made amends in the second half, with five crosses. 12 final-third entries and 16 passes into the final third of the pitch. Trent's a very talented player, but at this level, talent alone isn't enough,' Xabo Alonso, Madrid's manager, said after the match. 'He needs to work harder physically and be more consistent, especially defensively. He has to meet the standards set for fitness, discipline, and effort.'
