Brian Thomas Jr. Had a Lot to Say About Travis Hunter
Brian Thomas Jr. Had a Lot to Say About Travis Hunter originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brian Thomas Jr. outperformed even the highest expectations in his rookie year with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Advertisement After being selected 23rd overall in the 2024 draft, Thomas would end the year with 1282 yards and 10 touchdowns. His rookie performance placed him in the top 3 of Rookie of the Year voting alongside college teammates Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers. This week, Brian Thomas Jr. was asked about getting to know rookie WR/DB Travis Hunter, 'It's been pretty good. Pretty fun. He's a fun dude. Super cool, super chill—I'm not going to say that one (laughs). Super cool, super fun. He's just a fun guy to be around. A lot of energy. Super fun.' Brian said that rookie who player Coach Prime is definitely trying to soak up as much information as possible. 'Yeah, he's been asking a lot of questions. But that's just him trying to be the best he can be. Just talking through routes, talking through little things, plays, why we run these certain plays versus these certain looks. So just little things like that. He wants to be the best. We both want to be the best. We just come out and compete each and every day and whatever he needs help with, I'm glad to help him,' said Thomas Jr. Brian also was questioned about whether it's been very competitive between the two receivers. 'Yeah, for sure. We compete in everything we do. We come out here each and every day, coming out here striving to be the best.' Advertisement Thomas Jr. talked about his first time seeing Hunter out on the field. 'I actually came out here for when they had the rookie minicamp. I was up here, so I came out. I just stepped out here and looked at him doing the drills and stuff. It was really just how quick he was and how detailed he was. When he might've gotten a drill wrong or something, and he was just hopping back in line and going right back at it and trying to find ways to do it right and find ways to be the best that he can be.' Finally, the second-year receiver was asked if he's tired of answering Travis Hunter related questions? He's taking it in stride and understands there is a lot of excitement. He also made it clear he wants to help others the way vets helped him as a rookie. 'No, it would never be like that because guys that were here last year, they helped me out throughout the whole season and they were there for me. So, anything he needs help with, I'll be there for him.' Jacksonville Jaguars' Travis Hunter on list of dark horse MVP candidates
Jacksonville Jaguars' Travis Hunter on list of dark horse MVP candidates On NFL .com's list of dark horse MVP candidates was the Jaguars' Travis Hunter. Judy Battista of put together her list of dark horse MVP candidates, and included was the Jacksonville Jaguars' Travis Hunter. "Perhaps the darkest of dark horses on this list, Hunter mans two positions, but neither is quarterback," wrote Battista. "Still, how do you ignore a player who could do something rarely seen in the NFL: play both ways and have a significant impact at both receiver and cornerback? Key to whether the reigning Heisman Trophy winner garners any votes will be how big his numbers at receiver are, and how much the Jaguars use him on defense." The MVP over the years has been a quarterback award. The Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year have been for the best non-quarterbacks in a given season. So in that sense, Hunter is already facing an uphill battle when it comes to winning this award, as Battista mentions. He's also the only rookie to make an appearance on Battista's list. However, what can't be ignored either is what Hunter is trying to accomplish by being a true two-way player. While ultimately it will be his production on both sides of the ball that garners the attention, being able to post those numbers starts with what his playing time and opportunities look like at wide receiver and cornerback. This was a topic that GM James Gladstone discussed recently while making an appearance on Sirius XM's NFL radio. In short, the number of snaps that Hunter sees on offense and defense on a given week will be fluid and can vary depending on what the matchup dictates. 'Time will truly tell, and I think the thing you can, in fact, read into at this stage is that he does not tire," said Gladstone. "He has got a spark, he has got the energy, the capacity from a physical standpoint to be able to do it is certainly there. It'll be in terms of one game to the next, where does it sit, where does it make the most sense, certain game plans might dictate usage differently. "So time will truly tell, and I don't know that one game to the next is going to be the exact same. Putting a number on it at this stage is, I think probably premature, but look forward to seeing how it plays out here." By design, Hunter has spent most of his time at wide receiver during offseason programs. As Gladstone mentioned, this was because the Jaguars view cornerback as his more natural position, so they chose to onboard him at wideout. But as OTAs and minicamp unfolded, we saw more of Hunter on defense. The next step will be playing both sides of the ball during the same practice regularly. For the most part, this offseason, Hunter's practice time on a specific day was devoted to either offense or defense.

The two stars will both wear No. 12 this season, and fans are absolutely loving it. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will both wear No. 12 in a powerful show of brotherhood In a move that's already being called 'the most wholesome news of the offseason,' Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders and superstar two-way player Travis Hunter are both set to wear No. 12 this upcoming college football season. Why? Because it's more than just a number. It's a symbol of their bond, a connection that goes beyond teammates or even friends. Coach Prime (aka Deion Sanders) confirmed the news, noting that Travis actually asked to share the number with Shedeur. And in typical Prime Time fashion, he didn't hold back on how proud he was of their connection, calling them 'closer than brothers.' The NCAA allows number sharing, if players aren't on the field at the same time If you're wondering how this works under NCAA rules: it's legal to have two players wear the same number, as long as they don't line up on the field together. Since Shedeur plays quarterback and Hunter flips between offense and defense, there's enough wiggle room to make this happen. And Colorado's equipment staff has already confirmed it's official: both No. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo 12 jerseys are getting stitched up. Shedeur and Travis already have unmatched chemistry on the field, but now? They're also matching numbers. It's the kind of unity that no defense wants to face this fall.
