69 traffic personnel shifted from 15 checkposts
Patna: As many as 69 traffic personnel from 15 checkposts were shifted on Monday, said SP, Patna Traffic, Aprajit Lohan.
Additionally, three officers, including an ASI, were booked for illegal collection of money at Dhanuki Mor in Patna.
The action came after a video surfaced showing traffic police personnel extorting money from truck drivers.
He said, "Investigation revealed that four police officers formed an organised racket, operating through two private individuals, Naveen Kumar and Deepak Kumar, who posed as traffic police officers wearing masks. ASI Ram Nivas Thakur, constables Avinash Kumar, Ganesh Kumar, and Lalesh Kumar were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Agamkuan police station."
The investigation found that the group had been running this operation for three months, sharing the illegally collected money among themselves.
The Traffic SP issued strict guidelines requiring all traffic police personnel to use body-worn cameras while issuing challans to rules violators. "Any officer found with their camera turned off will face severe consequences. The mass transfer aims to prevent such corrupt practices by avoiding long-term postings at single locations," he added.
