Police question woman in viral video driving on Penang Bridge motorcycle lane
NIBONG TEBAL: Police have identified and questioned the driver of a car seen in a viral video driving along the motorcycle lane on the Second Penang Bridge. The 70-year-old woman was brought in for questioning after the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department identified her and brought her in for questioning. Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief, Superintendent Jay January Siowou, said the woman was brought to the Seberang Perai Selatan district police headquarters. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident took place at Km 8.6 of the Second Penang Bridge, heading from Batu Kawan to Batu Maung, at 1.30pm yesterday. "An investigation paper has been opened for the offence of using a prohibited lane," he said. "Police urge the public to always obey road laws and not take traffic regulations lightly, especially on high-risk routes such as bridges and designated motorcycle lanes. "Strict action will be taken against any person found committing traffic offences that may endanger other road users, as road safety is a shared responsibility," he added in a statement posted on the police department's official Facebook page last night. He also urged anyone with further information regarding the incident to contact the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department of the Seberang Perai Selatan police at 04-5858222. Earlier, a six-second video showing a Proton X50 being driven in the motorcycle lane on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge went viral on social media. Netizens reacted with a mix of concern and sympathy, suggesting that the driver may have entered the lane by mistake, possibly due to unfamiliarity with the route.

The incident has since gone viral on social media. Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said the 70-year-old woman was identified by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department and brought to the Seberang Perai Selatan district police headquarters for further action. According to him, preliminary police investigations found that the incident occurred at Km 8.6 of the Second Penang Bridge, heading from Batu Kawan to Batu Maung, at 1.30pm yesterday. Singaporean cyclist killed after hitting pothole and being run over by trailer
KULAI: A Singaporean cyclist was killed after being involved in an accident with a trailer on Jalan Gunung Pulai this morning. Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the department received a report of the collision, involving the cyclist and a hanvan-type trailer, at around 9.45am. He said investigations revealed that the 42-year-old cyclist, who was riding with three others, had struck a pothole and fallen onto the road. "At the time of the incident, the 41-year-old local trailer driver, who was on his way to Singapore to deliver gravels, was unable to avoid the victim and ran over him," he said in a statement today. The victim, who was trapped under the trailer, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. "The trailer driver was unharmed. "The cyclist's body has been sent to Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital for a post-mortem examination. "The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (for reckless or dangerous driving)," he added. Cops: Tell us on FB if you witness dangerous driving
KUALA LUMPUR: Anyone who encounters dangerous driving, road rage incidents, illegal racing or speeding can report it straight to the authorities via social media. Federal police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said all motorists need to do is to reach out to them via the department's official Facebook page. "This could be an alternative for motorists to share dashcam footage and images of traffic offenders with us. You can reach us at he told the New Straits Times today. Yusri said, ideally, motorists should go to the nearest police station and lodge a report and hand over any evidence they had, be it images or dashcam footage. "Sharing videos or images with us via the Facebook page would serve as a easier first step to reach us so that we can begin our investigations into any incident brought to our attention. "If our investigators require, you will still need to come in to have a statement recorded in order to facilitate further investigations," he said. Meanwhile, the Road Transport Department has advised users to download the MyJPJ application which could be used to channel information or complaints on traffic offenders to them. The department said complaints could be channeled through the e-Aduan@JPJ feature via the application. "We also want to remind the public to include complete information on the offence such as the date, time and location where the offence was committed. "Users can also upload images and videos of the offence here," it said, adding that the department would issue a notice to the alleged offender within 72-hours of receiving a complaint. It was previously reported that RTD received over 6,000 complaints from the public about errant motorists via the MyJPJ application during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri operations. RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli was reported saying that a total of 6,687 complaints were received through the mobile application. The highest number of complaints were for queue cutting, with 1,766 reports, followed by 1,625 complaints for misuse of emergency lanes.

[UPDATED] Police confirm viral dashcam footage shows fatal Gerik crash
KUALA LUMPUR: Federal police have confirmed that a viral video being circulated on social media is indeed footage of the bus crash that claimed 15 lives in Gerik early this morning. Federal police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed this with the New Straits Times today. "The owner of the vehicle that recorded the dashcam footage came forward to hand over the recording and assist in further investigations at the Gerik police headquarters today," he said. "We are currently investigating the evidence received and will send the video recording for further analysis," he said. The 34-second clip shows a vehicle driving in dark conditions on the road when a bus is seen overtaking it at a high rate of speed as both vehicles approach a bend. The bus is seen veering out of control before crashing on its side against the road shoulder barrier just in front of the vehicle that recorded the footage. Another silver MPV and the dashcam-equipped vehicle are then seen overtaking the wrecked bus just before the video ends. It was reported that fifteen people were killed in a tragic accident involving a Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student bus and a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) along the East-West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur Barat) early this morning.
