Bugatti Boss on Turbocharged Hybrid Supercars: 'I Don't Get It'

While the Chiron was essentially an evolution of the Veyron before it, the Tourbillon represents a radical departure. Molsheim's all-new performance flagship ditches the quad-turbo W-16 engine in favor of a V-16 without forced induction. Cosworth helped develop the naturally aspirated powerhouse, which features an 8.3-liter displacement and an impressively low curb weight. It tips the scales at just 556 pounds, or about 42 percent less than the Chiron's heart. Bugatti and Cosworth engineers achieved the significant weight reduction partly by eliminating the four turbochargers. Mate Rimac told Top Gear magazine he doesn't see the point of using turbos in a hybrid supercar, arguing that the hybrid component compensates for the loss in power while providing the benefits of electrification. In the Tourbillon, there's a large battery with a gross capacity of 24.8 kilowatt-hours, good for 43 miles (70 kilometers) of range without firing up the V-16. Photo by: Bugatti 'I have driven them all and I don't get it, really. Why would you have a hybrid powertrain with a turbo engine? Like, a turbo engine is a compromise on its own, right?' Bugatti Rimac's head honcho revealed that deleting the quad-turbo setup resulted in a 600-horsepower loss. However, the three electric motors compensate, and then some, delivering a combined 800 hp. Factoring in the combustion engine, which produces 1,000 hp on its own, the Tourbillon is more potent than its predecessors and ends up lighter. Aside from dropping the turbos, the weight savings also come from a new suspension that's 45% lighter, thanks to 3D printing. The whole car weighs less than 4,398 pounds (1,995 kilograms) with all fluids and a nearly full tank of gas. While most hybrid supercars are turbocharged, the Lamborghini Revuelto sticks to a naturally aspirated V-12. The LaFerrari also featured a naturally aspirated, electrified twelve-cylinder engine, but the new F80 uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6. While Porsche hasn't released a follow-up to the 918 Spyder and its naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V-8, the Mission X concept strongly hinted at a purely electric setup. Mate Rimac isn't closing the door on a pure ICE version of the V-16. He's also open to the idea of a downsized hybrid configuration, even a single-motor Tourbillon that skips the pair of front motors to reduce fat further. A roadster is all but confirmed, so there are big plans beyond the 250 coupes planned for production. Meanwhile, deliveries of the 'normal' car will begin next year but not before producing 35 prototypes for testing purposes. Currently, Bugatti is hard at work delivering the remaining Bolide and Mistral units as the last examples of the W-16 breed . Donald Trump's meme coin dinner served bad food, weak security, and $100,000 watches

US President Donald Trump hosted a black-tie dinner for the top 220 buyers of his $TRUMP meme coin on Thursday night despite severe backlash against the event. According to an Independent report, Trump flew to Virginia – the venue – on Marine One and at a lectern emblazoned with the presidential seal. This despite the White House arguing that it was a 'private' event that Trump was 'attending it in his personal time.' The dinner at Trump's Virginia gold club was attended by the 220 biggest buyers of his meme coin. They spend a combined $148 million on the cryptocurrency, reported CNBC. Guests included crypto influencers, industry bigwigs and former NBA star Lamar Odom. Some of the guests were ultra-wealthy, but others were reportedly more 'normal'. The dinner was not open to the press. Trump made a brief appearance and delivered a speech. The guests had food. The top four biggest spenders were presented with gemstone-encrusted watches. Not good, apparently. TikTok influencer Nicholas Pinto said he was still hungry when he left the gala. 'The food sucked,' Pinto said. 'Wasn't given any drinks other than water or Trump's wine. I don't drink, so I had water. My glass was only filled once.' Pinto was invited to the gala after investing $300,000 in $TRUMP. 'It was the worst food I've ever had at a Trump golf course,' he said. 'The only good thing was bread and butter.' 200 people spent millions on Trump's memecoin and were rewarded with this dinner or embed] Another guest said the food was 'OK, but not top-class.' According to Pinto, barely. The US President reportedly spent a grand total of 23 minutes at the gala. 'He didn't talk to any of the 220 guests — maybe the top 25,' said Pinto. He delivered a speech before flying back on his helicopter. 'For the most part, it was just him talking about his campaign, and about how he beat Biden, and blah, blah, blah, how we were in a terrible place with crypto before he got elected and now we're in a great place,' one guest was quoted as saying by The Verge. The grand prize for the top four winners was a $100,000 Trump-branded Tourbillon watch. Crypto billionaire Justin Sun bought more than $20 million worth of $TRUMP during the contest and thereby placed first. He was awarded a Trump-branded Tourbillon watch worth $100,000 during the gala. However, Trump did not hand out the watch himself. Plenty. Apparently, security at Trump's gala was questionable at best. The Verge reported how the vetting process for the gala's more than 200 guests was a 'pretty light' KYC check done by a third party. This gave virtual strangers, including foreigners, an unprecedented degree of proximity to the US president.

The Cadillac Celestiq Will Be as Rare as a Bugatti

No one expects the Cadillac Celestiq to be a big seller for the brand. It's a hand-built electric vehicle that costs $340,000, and it can take customers weeks or months to finalize the design. So Cadillac won't be popping them out like Escalades. Tony Roma, Cadillac's chief engineer of performance cars, revealed in a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage that the automaker doesn't expect to make more than 250 cars per year in the United States. 'This is super low volume,' Roma told Leno. 'We're not announcing the exact volume, but think more like hundreds, not thousands.' For some context of the Celestiq's rarity, Bugatti plans to build just 250 examples of the Tourbillon , its V-16-powered hybrid hypercar. The Celestiq is the car Cadillac plans to use to fight Rolls-Royce and Bentley —not easy targets. The automaker revealed the production version two-and-a-half years ago, showing off a sleek sedan with a longer wheelbase than the three-row Escalade . The Celestiq is a flagship for Cadillac brand, with a pair of electric motors making an estimated 650 horsepower (more than previously announced), which will help motivate the 6,300-pound sedan. It's also an important car for General Motors, utilizing the automaker's new Ultium architecture that's underpinning a wide range of vehicles from the American automaker. It has all the luxuries you'd expect from a $340,000 sedan —Super Cruise, air suspension, four-wheel steering, and tons of technology. It has a four-quadrant tinting panoramic roof, a pillar-to-pillar HD display, a 38-speaker sound system, heated armrests, and more. The Celestiq looks production-ready in Leno's video, and we rode one last year. But don't expect to see them everywhere anytime soon.
