Torrey Craig gives an update on Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum's Achilles rehab
Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been keeping a low profile since he went down with a torn Achilles tendon against the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals. And given the anguish that injury created for the St. Louis native, we can hardly blame him. But Tatum has been, by all accounts, hard at work rehabbing that ankle so he can get back on the court as soon as possible and better than ever. Veteran teammate Torrey Craig has been in Auerbach Center this summer as well, and has seen the Duke alum grinding. "He loves the game so much and basketball means so much to him," said Craig in a recent interview with CLNS Media's Noa Dalzell and Bobby Manning. "He puts so much hard work into it, and dedication and sacrifice, and all of the above. For something like this to happen at that moment, in the playoffs, it's just gut-blowing." Should the Boston Celtics re-sign Torrey Craig this summer?
Torrey Craig joined the Boston Celtics midway through the 2024-25 season. Brad Stevens picked him up off the buyout market after the Chicago Bulls waived him. Craig added size and athleticism to the Celtics' forward rotation, along with another presence on the defensive end. Craig played in 17 regular-season games after teaming up with the Celtics. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.8 rebounds along with 11.8 minutes of playing time. Nevertheless, Craig's contract with Boston has run its course. As such, he will hit unrestricted free agency during the offseason. Advertisement During a recent conversation with Brian Robb of Craig admitted that he would be open to staying with the Celtics for another year. 'I guess we'll cross that path when we get there,' Craig said. 'I have to sit down with my representatives, my agents and talk things through and see the options. But I wouldn't mind re-signing here.' Brad Stevens is expected to make significant changes to Boston's roster in the coming months. As such, there could be a lesser focus on adding veteran talent to the rotation. As such, Craig would be wise to continue testing his free agency market before making a final decision on his next stop. Still, if the Celtics are looking for a low-usage forward who can provide perimeter defense and a hint of athleticism in spot minutes, then they could do far worse than bringing the 8-year veteran back on another minimum deal. Torrey Craig is open to returning to Boston Celtics if opportunity is there
After coming over after being waived during the season by the Chicago Bulls, veteran forward Torrey Craig is looking to return to the Boston Celtics for the 2025-26 season. Appearing in just nine games for the Chicago Bulls this past season, Craig was signed by Boston in February and while he didn't offer up a ton of production, he was a quality three-and-d contributor off the bench for head coach Joe Mazzulla. Facing potential changes coming to the roster in wake of the Jayson Tatum's torn Achilles injury, the 34-year old Craig has expressed interest in returning to Boston for next season. Shortly after they were eliminated by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Craig spoke with and said he'd like to be back if the interest is mutual, and feels that the team can still contend even with the Tatum injury.
