Diamondbacks' Torey Lovullo Announces Corbin Carroll News Before Rockies Game

Diamondbacks' Torey Lovullo Announces Corbin Carroll News Before Rockies Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Arizona Diamondbacks, currently posting a 37–37 record and positioned fourth in the NL West—trailing the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers by eight games—are navigating a challenging stretch as they push for a playoff spot. Advertisement The season's expectations took a major hit when offseason acquisition and Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes was lost to Tommy John surgery, a setback that comes as a huge blow to the team's playoff aspirations. Despite the mediocre record, the Diamondbacks have shown strength on the offensive side; they rank third in runs per game at 5.1 and fourth in home runs with 104, while posting a team-wide .442 slugging percentage and .772 OPS, both of which rank them third in the league. Advertisement On MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo offered an encouraging update. 'He's getting very close," Lovullo said. "I think we really dodged the bullet. It's in a very, very sensitive space, but the ball got a lot of meat instead of a lot of bone. So hopefully sooner rather than later.' Carroll, the 2023 Rookie of the Year and an All-Star who played a key role in leading the Diamondbacks to the World Series in 2023, continues to stand out for his contributions this season. He has already accumulated an impressive 2.7 WAR over 72 games, tallying 20 home runs and 10 stolen bases while posting a .255 batting average and a .914 OPS. Advertisement His availability remains a critical component for Arizona's success as the team navigates recent setbacks in its quest for a postseason berth. Corbin Carroll Makes Request to Diamondbacks Before Blue Jays Game

Corbin Carroll Makes Request to Diamondbacks Before Blue Jays Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is amid another strong season. In his third full MLB campaign, the left-handed slugger owns a .914 OPS that ranks sixth in the National League. His 20 home runs rank fourth in the NL. Advertisement In 2023, Carroll won National League Rookie of the Year, making the All-Star team and finishing fifth in MVP voting. While his production dipped the following season, he has rebounded with a big start to 2025. In Wednesday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Carroll was hit by a pitch on his left hand. On Thursday, he is out of the lineup, which sparked concern among fans. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll (7)© Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Speaking with reporters after Wednesday night's game, an 8-1 loss for Arizona, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll had a left hand contusion. At that time, the star outfielder was still undergoing tests (via José M. Romero of azcentral). Advertisement Ahead of Carroll's absence from Thursday's lineup, the Diamondbacks star requested to play in the series finale, but was held out by the team to rest his bruised hand. This update has multiple layers of good news for Arizona. First, Carroll is just dealing with a hand bruise. Secondly, he felt good enough to request to play. While he remains out against Toronto, this does not sound like an injury that will cost him any extended time, and certainly does not project to be an injured list situation. Arizona will begin a three-game set with the last place Colorado Rockies on Friday after completing their series in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Diamondbacks OF Carroll exits game at Toronto after being hit on left hand by pitch

TORONTO — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll exited Wednesday's 8-1 loss at Toronto in the eighth inning after he was hit on his left hand by a pitch. Manager Torey Lovullo said X-rays did not reveal a fracture. Carroll stayed in to run the bases after being hit by a 91 mph sinker from rookie left-hander Justin Bruihl. But he was replaced before the bottom half of the eighth. Alek Thomas took Carroll's spot in the lineup, with Tim Tawa moving from center field to right. Lovullo said Carroll was hit on the fleshy part of the hand below his pinkie, resulting in a contusion. 'It's a very dangerous spot when you're talking about that bone on the pinkie side,' Lovullo said. 'It got a lot of meat, so we're grateful for that.' Carroll's status for Thursday's series finale was unclear. 'I wouldn't be surprised if he tells me he wants to play tomorrow,' Lovullo said. 'We're going to keep an open mind, we're going to continue to evaluate him tonight through the night and into the morning and see how he feels.' Carroll tripled and scored Arizona's only run. The 2023 NL Rookie of the Year is batting .255 with 20 homers and 44 RBIs. Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno was unavailable for a second consecutive game because of a sore right hand. A former Blue Jays prospect, Moreno was scratched from the lineup Tuesday after injuring his hand during batting practice. 'We'll continue to push on day to day with him,' Lovullo said. Wednesday's loss was Arizona's third straight after winning the previous five. 'These are frustrating times,' Lovullo said. ___ AP MLB:
